  1. So had to look it up, I'll be here 20 years in December!
  2. IMO that is the one thing that separates Allen from others like C Newton, Lamar Jackson, etc. People here often post how Allen is one run away from a potential career ending injury, see Cam Newton, look what happened to him. To me that is the one difference with Allen, he has the arm talent to still win. He may need to work a slight amount more on accuracy, but he can still be a good starting QB in the league even without running. Likely too give a couple more years and the mental part, anticipating certain things will also improve some too so the need to run will go down.
  3. What wouldbe interesting to know too is how these numbers compare against league averages. My guess is you'd find pretty similar results. As stated better teams will likely play less rookies. To me it looks like they drafted Elam based on physical traits and the little bit I've read recently sounds like coverage wise, he's like glue. But he may be taking longer than expected to absorb, understand, and put into action all the mental parts of the game so that is what has been holding him back. Could be too early last year he really struggled in these areas. Benford may be the opposite, doesn't have near the skill set of Elam but relies on instincts and is going to be steady, may not make the great play, but won't make the big mistake either. Jackson is maybe also more like Benford, doesn't have the physical still set, but also has 4 years under his belt so again even less likely to make the big mistake. Could be that McD feels there's enough talent out there surrounding the CB2 spot so doesn't need spectacular play there but is more worried about mistakes and big plays. Does sound too like Elam's closing the gap. Not too concerned with Benford playing more on Sunday either.
  4. If you're going to be a HS official, do it NY state as they pay much better. I used to ref HS volleyball till I moved away in 2008. Doing a JV then varsity back to back was around $90 back then and I recall we were going to be getting a fairly large increase the following season.. Plus I lived in Rochester district where they also paid mileage. I lived in a NW suburb of Rochester and was doing games in Wayland/Cohocton which added close to another $50 in mileage which likely has also gone up as gas prices are also much higher. Recall Buffalo district didn't directly pay mileage, instead they had somehow calculated the average distance each official would to travel to the average school and everyone got that amount every match regardless how far you actually drove. This was about 15 years ago, so who knows what the policy's are now. Do recall in Rochester the AD's were beating on the assigners to assign officials with the lowest mileage even if that often meant having officials that really should be working lower level matches. Didn't matter, $$ came first! Moved to NC and we'd get around $60 and in the 5 or 6 years I was doing it, never got an increase, plus no mileage down here. I stopped about 8 years ago mainly due to lack of time, planned to start again the following year, but never did and at this point, not likely I will bother as now retired and traveling too much.
  5. That's around what I prefer for spending money too.
  6. Really is a shame the coaching staff doesn't get this like the poster here do.
  7. Any idea is Marv the oldest living member of the Hall of fame? At 98 can't be too many older ones left.
  8. From what I read, Bates took the majority of the snaps at RG. Torrence got some, but didn't read anything to indicate he in any way outplayed Bates. Don't think Torrence looked bad either, but not sure II heard anything to indicate he'll be the starter either. Think it's a good problem to have overall. I do think in 2024 Bates will be the starting center with Torrence and McGovern next to him.
  9. Assuming he has a half way successful season I'd agree, he won't be fired. Like the rumored story states, one playoff win which IMO is asking a lot. Maybe he still keeps the job without the win depending how everything else goes. But a 4th place finish which most people are predicting in the AFC East could get him canned. NE has got a lot of bad press over the years due to all the cheating, and other issues that have happened there and in turn it's given Kraft a bad name in ownership circles. Maybe much of it Kraft wasn't even aware of until too late, who knows? Likely he was more willing to put up with it though when the team was winning every year. Like many he may also have given more credit to BB for their winning, but every year that goes by shows it was more due to Brady than him. So putting all these things together, I could see him getting fired if they have a 4th place finish with a 6-11 or so record. The one thing IMO that Belichick is hanging around for is the all time most wins record. But needs 30 more wins to tie. That's at least 3 more above .500 seasons to get there. So tend to agree without the team showing considerable improvement this year by winning about 10 games, it could take 4 or 5 more years to do so and can't see Kraft giving him that much time if all the team is doing is playing .500 ball at best
  10. Agree, but think he'd still be a successful starting QB without the running while many of the names on the list had no career without being able to run. Much of the excitement level of Allen would be gone without the running.
  11. Agree. Allen could never run another play in his life, but could still be a great QB solely relying on his arm. Most of the guys on that list needed to run to be effective. Agree too, lets give Wilson another year before making plans for his funeral. Been a long time, but thought Cunningham had a good arm too, though admittedly was a different game back then from a QB standpoint.
  12. IMO #2, 3, 4, & 5 all have big question marks. Is Stafford even a top 15 QB. McVay is a media darling, did win one SB but overall record isn't that great. Maybe all the issues with Wilson were on Hackett and he'll bounce back, but Peytons ov erall record also wasn't that great, won 1 SB all the years with Brees at QB Lawrence looks to be the real deal, but Pederson got run out of Philly quickly after winning SB as wheels all fell off. Can Jackson stay healthy and even if he does, how good of a QB is he when he needs to throw. Harbaugh is a good coach, but wouldn't call him great.
  13. OK, I didn't think they were allowed to do anything after the 17th other than playing under terms of the tag. Thanks for clarifying!
  14. I thought the dead line to sign a contract for tagged players was last Monday the 17th? Or did that not apply since Barkley never signed his tag? Or can tagged players only sign one year deals?
  15. Anyone know, are there as many threads on the Giants message boards complaining about all the X-Bills players being signed like there were here about all the Panthers that the Bills signed?
  16. What that article didn't say was if some of their practice habits were actually illegal or at the least are illegal now. Maybe when Edelman first started they were still allowed?? Also wonder too if some of the extra work was the result of Brady making WR's etc, put in extra time. Team couldn't be held responsible then either. I do think the Bills are practicing about the same amount as most other teams do too. Also don't forget, we're talking about practice, not a game, but practice.....
  17. If I were going to put money on where/what Ron will pop up with involvement in next, based on his comments yesterday, I'll bet on something political related, maybe some position in the governors office or some other state wide position.
  18. I think that rookies not playing much may also be the result of fielding a very strong overall team. Players like White, Dawkins, Edmunds, Knox, Oliver, Singletary, Brown, Milano to a lesser degree all did play a lot as rookies. Now harder for them to find the field unless a clear opening ahead of them. Groot did play right away as there was need there. This year Torrence will be an interesting one as likely has the talent to immediately start, but does have a fairly talented player ahead of him in Bates. Even Kincaid, will he become the dominant used starter in the slot or have other good options in Shakir, Shefield.
  19. The other thing to keep in mind with the Bengals. Once a month or so you see the joke post here on some thread "Ralph is Cheap" Well if Ralph was cheap, where does that put Mike Brown. Maybe a descendant of Scrooge himself?? Unless he's had a revaluation, things could quickly get dicey in Cinncy.
  20. Can't see the timing work on this as whomever they cut very likely won't be cut till late August. I think it would be a real waste to spend money on Hopkins when he had no time prior to work with the offense. I'd think teams with good chance of going deep in playoffs like Bills, KC etc would give Hopkins a deadline of maybe August 1st at the latest. If you don't sign with us by then, we're out.
  21. Well today's BN has a very similar article and lists Murray or Hines as a potential cut/trade and also Marlowe. That was written by someone with more insight and says the same thing. The BN article actually had 6 or 7 potential cuts and stated that if the team feels Hardy can be their return man then Hines could go which makes sense. The Bills have a surplus of interior lineman so could see Morse getting cut as does save money. Less likely here, but could happen.
  22. I suspect the offer may be better than $2 mil, but agree with the premise Beane has made an offer and willing to wait him out. Will that work out, we shall see. If Hopkins were all about the money, he'd likely have already signed someplace, so do think he want's to go to a team like the Bills and both sides are playing a waiting game, maybe to meet in the middle, though likely much further from what Hop wanted and hoped to get. Maybe ends up being a contract with a bunch of incentives thrown in. Been talk too that Hopkins may wait out through training camp see if some team has a WR who gets hurt, then team may bump up offer. I do think though in the case of Bills, if he's not signed by the 1st week of training camp, he's not coming here. Doubt the Bills would sign him in late August barring a major injury. Kincaid caught balls very well in college. The Bills hope that translates well to the NFL, but we don't know yet. Stranger things have happened. Overall the Bills would be a much stronger offense with Hopkins than without. Your 12 personal description is great, as long as no one gets hurt or needs to sit out a play or two. That's where Hopkins makes the team much stronger.
  23. Good article! Don't like the suggested price though, not sure it would make sense to go that high, then would be cheaper to keep what I have. That's their challenge will have to still make it cheap enough that keeping a cable/streaming subscription with all the additional content isn't still cheaper or close enough that not worth switching.
  24. I have a subscription to Hulu/ESPN+, Paramount, and Peacock all with commercials. I also have a subscription to YTTV mainly for content from ESPN/ESPN2, etc. Watch a little bit of TNT, etc, but mainly have it for the sports. I have a TIVO DVR with an antenna hook up that I use to record shows on network TV. I was saying the other day, I could for likely much less money switch Hulu, Paramount, and Peacock to the commercial free version and dump YTTV. But I don't mainly so I can watch live coverage of games on ESPN. I can watch the live game via the ESPN app, but you need to list who your cable/streaming provider is to show that you have existing access to ESPN in order to watch it. So my question is why doesn't ESPN come out with it's own streaming service of all the ESPN channels. Say $20 a month gets you the 4 or 5 ESPN stations. What is legally, practically, or financially preventing them?
  25. So how's it work on west coast for example on Oct 1st Fox has the doubleheader so there will be both an early and late Fox game. On the east coast there will also be one early game shown on CBS, of the 4 games being played, a good chance I will get to see the Bills on local TV where I live in NC at 1:00. But there is also as is every week one 4:05 start on CBS. So even if no local teams playing on 4:05 slot, does west coast still get that one late CBS game as they don't want to show their one game on TV starting at 10:00 AM? The week prior Sept 24th Fox also has doubleheader so would be one CBS game televised. The 4:05 game involves Carolina V Seattle so that will be shown by me so that week no 1:00 CBS game. Having said all this I did sign up as already a YTV subscriber so I got it at a decent price. But after schedule came out was second guessing myself a bit as likely there won't be too many weeks I need it as game will either be on coast to coast or on local station. It helps too that Carolina games being the local team, mostly are carried on Fox.
