Exactly the list of failures is much longer than the list of successes in new HC hires That may be great if we were playing tennis and only person participating. But there's 52 other who he also needs to be the perfect or at least close to it fit. You want to hire him as a QB coach great. I realize QB is the most important position far and away but hiring a HC for that reason is likely not a smart overall choice. And I'll see you're McVay and Taylor and raise you Matt Rhule and Kliff Kingsbury just to name a couple off the top of my head. And one thing I'm 100% certain of I'd have more chips to bet against you on the list of failures over successes. That's a stretch to say they have more playoff success as Sirianni and Taylor both have had limited experience, only 2 seasons. McVay has had more time and went from SB champs to 5-12 in one year. That's pretty impressive! You're right in that no one was asking the Bills to hire McD when they did, he was an unknown and has worked out very well in the overall success of the team. Just hasn't won a SB and who knows if he ever will. It took Andy Reid 21 years to win one and probably plenty of mistakes along the way before he did win. Lasted 14 years with Eagles with one SB appearance. You're right to that no one knows that replacement for McD couldn't be better. But the odds are not in the Bills favor as for every success there are probably about 3 failures. So good chance the team could be worse off. At best a new coach will bring in new schemes and have a decent amount of roster churn, salary cap hits, etc. and a maybe a down year or two.

Agree with you everywhere except D line. I think they are better as more solid proven depth with Floyd and Ford. Miller missed a good chunk of last season too. Plus Groot, AJ and Basham all have another year under their belt and should be some improvement. Even if AJ and Basham are gone after this year and labeled a bust, would think there'd be some improvement even if small.

Bills signed a TE who's last name I can't spell
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Draconator's topic in The Stadium Wall
Just read this guys grandfather played on the Bills in 89. Maybe they still have one of his old jerseys so they won't need to sew the new guys name name on the back -
I also think it may have been a bit of McD's comments on Tuesday of being "concerned" made it sound worse than it was and he left out too many details. Diggs also realized after Tuesday that he was being ripped pretty good for his actions. So Wednesday McD cooled things down and Diggs showed up like everything is cool. Maybe in reality it worked perfectly for both of them

Bills signed a TE who's last name I can't spell
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Draconator's topic in The Stadium Wall
For the same reason I always just say Ike B as can't spell that one either. At least Groot has an established nickname or he'd also be on the list. Got to give Beane credit for all the Williams he's signed making things easier. -
Is Sean McDermott our version of Doug Collins?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in The Stadium Wall
And who do you want to replace him with, an offensive minded coach like Cowhard states. Matt Rhule and Kliff Kingsbury are both available. How'd they work out? I see Sean Payton was mentioned above, Sean Peyton who had a worse overall record than McD and had a top QB. As soon as you change HC you'll also need to change a number of players to fit his style and will be taking a "short step" back and who knows if ever even get back to where they are now. Much better chance you'll end up in worse situation than we are just based off many more HC failures than successes. -
Just recently was reading a newspaper account from the playoff loss in the year of the Bickering Bills. I recall during the regular season Thomas calling out Kelly in that needed better play from the QB position. Didn't recall in the loss Thomas again calling out Kelly, stating on the Harmon drop , it was because Kelly didn't make the throw in time and on the interception to end it,again was Kelly's fault due to hesitation. May all be true, but didn't recall him ripping other than that one time. Amazing they became such good friends.

Help me understand the Ken Dorsey hate
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Buffalo_Stampede's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think the key is as QCity stated, no identity and that is something you can't measure with stats. So their red zone offense improved in the 2nd half statistically. That doesn't seem to pass the eye ball test IMO. I agree too with Ethan on the exact timing of when things seemed to go south. I don't blame him for the Hines use though as can recall reading between Allen's injury and not practicing and then the snow storm upending the schedule and practice days, can recall reading in early December, Hines and Allen had only been able to practice two days together. Do recall no one seemed to be too happy with Daboll's first year either or even 2nd or 3rd. I do think he can improve and learn from it, we'll find out this coming year, likely if he doesn't it will be his last. I know there was a thread just yesterday about how safe is McD beyond this coming year. While I do think McD is safe for next year Dorsey without an improvement is not. It does also make me nervous having an ex QB as the OC as QB's given the choice want to just keep throwing. Is Dorsey trying too hard to be the mad scientist and come up with too many new ways to use Allen. Does he see himself in Allen except Allen has the arm and body that he never had as a player and he wants to utilize that too much? -
I've always felt in the 4 SB the Bills went to if you had reversed the head coaches in any of them, the Bills would have won the game. But also felt there is no way any of these other coaches ever would have got the Bills to 4 SB's in a row. I see many people listing Andy Reid. Took him 21 seasons to win it, but many here are critical of McD

All-Pro DT Chris Jones not at Chiefs Mandatory Minicamp
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall
I assume he is under contract? Unlike Barkley who has yet to sign his tag. In that case, it no longer is a mandatory mini camp for Barkley -

Receiving concerns on offense
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall
The good news is the playoffs are in January, not September. By then a player like Kincaid could be doing pretty well. A QB like Allen makes everyone around him look better too. They also should have better capability of pass catching out of the backfield too with Cook having a year experience, plus the Murray, Harris, and Hines. Recall last year reading between Allen being hurt and not practicing, then the snow storm limiting things, in early December, Hines and Allen had only practiced 2 or 3 times together. Davis also was hurt a good part of the year too. The other side of it, who should they have signed with limited $$ to spend. Most of their signings were all lower salaried players with a couple of exceptions. Not sure what true #2 WR they could have signed with the amount of money they had. Maybe if Hopkins finds out there's little market for him at the salary he wants, they will sign him too, doubtful IMO but every day he remains unsigned increases the chances too. -
From everything I've been reading Kinciad will be used more like a WR than a TE. All speculation at this point, but the thinking is they won't ask too much of him from a blocking perspective. Put those two things together and think he could have a better year year than most rookie TE's typically do. I agree with Hardy being a stretch but do think McGovern will bolster the offense if for no other reason he's being looked at as replacing Stafford who was terrible. While he may not be all pro, still should see a big improvement overall on the line. Getting back to Hardy, while not great, still may be a big improvement over last year, once Crowder got hurt. He and Sheffield and Shakir not being a rookie should provide better depth than what we had by the 2nd half of last year Think to they have better complimentary depth at RB too. There wasn't enough distinctive difference between Singletary and Cook, and even Hines. Moss was supposed to be that bruiser, but never worked out.

Exactly, I'd have called it the Patrick Mahomes rule before the Allen rule.

Damm it I need that now!! So what is GIPHY anyway?

The comment was: "It's weird to me that there has been zero information given by anyone about him." That to me is saying there's an expectation that info be given. Maybe that's not entitlement, but also ignores the point as @eball stated maybe the family doesn't care to share anything. And yes do agree the less info given the more speculation there is and rumors, but doesn't seem to lessen the expectation of information needs to be given either.

Think it will be a 3 man race between Boogie, AJ and Shaq. Initially all 3 may stick if Miller starts out on IR/PUP. Throw in Settle there too as a 4th name that could be let go since they signed Ford.

Haven't seen any contract details posted and not planning to try and read through 36 pages to look for it. Could be the same issue as last week with Hopkins, until the league office opens Monday, not one will know much WRT contract structure. Having said that: Last off season can recall reading many threads how they shouldn't sign Edmunds to an extension or should trade him. Neither happened, now he's gone and probably the #1 off season topic here at TBD is who is going to play MLB this coming year. If we didn't sign Oliver likely would be having the same conversation a year from now about DT. Oliver is far from a bust as some suggest. He's an above average starting caliper player, probably rated in the top 20 to 30 range and now will be paid in the top 15 range. If he'd been drafted in round 2 or 3, there's be no complaints, but instead was drafted top 10. By the time Oliver is in year 3 of this contract. his salary will be a bargain assuming even he stays at the same level of play from him. Seen some posts stating that Kyle Williams was a better player, maybe, but took him a long number of years to get to that level. Oliver is still only 25! Likely if they didn't sign him now he'd be gone in the off season as if he played even slightly better, he'd have been offered a contract by some team more than the Bills could afford. And if he played poorly, the Bills would have offered him less, but likely some other team still would have topped the Bills offer and he'd be gone. IMO players on 5th year options who aren't signed to extensions tend to have a bit of a chip on their shoulder that the team didn't give them an extension, I'm not wanted here so I'm gone. There's no home town discount in that situation. Players too realize that their 2nd contract is the one they need to cash in on for every $$ they can get. By the time a 3rd contract comes up, more likely to take a home town discount assuming they like the team and they are winning to some level. Poyer comes to mind in that wouldn't be surprised if he could have got more elsewhere, but wanted to return. Think this deal is made as being in a win now mode. If the Bills had traded him, we'd be weaker at DT this year and not likely to find an equal or better player unless willing to pay even more. If they didn't sign him, as stated MO he likely would have left after this year as some other team would have over paid for him. Likely would have drafted his replacement and even if there's no improvement at all from Oliver, the odds of a rookie coming in and being equal to or better are slim. Yes we'd have had money to spend, but the team probably would not have been as good in 2023 or 24 overall. So they over paid a bit now, but can get out of contract after 2 or at most 3 seasons with minimal cap hit particularly when compared to overall salaries by 2025. Overall a bit surprised, but am OK with it as the team is better with him playing than with an future unknown filling his spot. And maybe this move is being made to free up money to sign Hopkins.

Sunday ticket advance prices released
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Xwnyer's topic in The Stadium Wall
OK. my view is so they call it something else next year, loyalty reward, etc. Or they don't offer any discounts and quickly find out the price point that people are willing to pay. At $489 Reddit starts to look good again. Actually was disappointed I had already signed up when I saw this years schedule, as many Bills games that are either at 4:25, or prime time, kind of felt it's not worth paying for it. -
Sunday ticket advance prices released
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Xwnyer's topic in The Stadium Wall
Is there a link to where it states that? My take on it is like anything that goes on sale, once the sale ends it goes back to standard price. Until the next sale. And the next sale could be even better or not as good, or not on the terms you want. But did YTTV state there will never be another early discount in future years? Always found that kind of annoying on DTV. Would rather be able to just click up one or maybe two channels to see local game rather than have to switch from channel 800 something to #4. If they have the technology to know say I'm in the Buffalo viewing area, why can't they also show the channel 4 broadcast on channel 8XX. Likely will be the same with YTTV too
