Christian Wade, will we ever see him?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to BeastMode54's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
the point is, you never know, maybe by next August he will have really improved and make the roster. If not as was stated likely a long shot for PS. He didn't count as any slots against he Bills so little to lose by keeping him other than paying him. Even that, I wonder if part of his salary is paid by the league, or maybe for all we know, his salary is even a tax write-off for the team? -
Loss to NE If the Fish game determines division title or even seedings, that likely could get moved to either 4:25 or even Sunday night game. Looking at the week 17 schedule, seems like the league did a bad job of guessing this year as to which will be key matchups. Very few games that likely will have both teams contending for playoff spots. Well unless you count the big NFC matchups like Dallas at the Giants, winner take all for the division title. Also a couple other NFC West games on Fox. But of the CBS games the only likely one is Bills - Fish and maybe Pitt - Cleveland where both teams likely will be playing week 18. Could see one of these getting moved.

I'd be rather nervous if they were in a situation of starting two rookies next year. If Morse retires, I'd be OK with the rookie at center, but would want a vet FA in the other slot, plus the three returnees. I also think we have needs other places that nor sure we can afford two high draft picks this year on the line.

Could Darnold end up backing up Allen in Buffalo?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to DJB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He'll go some place that gives him a legit chance to start. If he flames out there too, then could see him coming to Buffalo around 2023/24 or so as a back up. By then Fromms contract would be about up too so they'd need to decide what they want to do with him, but good change he'd also want to leave for chance to start. -
Agree with LB and CB. O line depends on what happens with Williams and Feleciano. If they were to both come back then the line has their 5 starters, need goes way down. If anything I'd argue more for a center/guard in case Morse decides he's had enough in one more year or so. You seem to need to use high draft picks on O line if you want the guy to be an instant starter. Assuming Morse comes back at least for 2021, you can develop mid range picks into starters in year 2 to 3. I think with the money invested in White, you need a low cost option at #2 CB so would be in favor of drafting one there maybe in 2nd or 3rd. Probably look for LB late in the first, should still be someone good at #32. Could also get a good starting LB in FA too. I'd almost favor that and draft an Edge late in the 1st round, though not certain how well you can find one that late. Or even draft Star's replacement for 2022/23.

The Bills Aren't a Top-Tier Team Yet
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Shaw66's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Next year is a good opportunity for the Bills to go far as they will be playing the NFC and AFC south so we'll have a little easier time of it. -
Yeah but it wasn't thrown out of bounds. It was a long completion, think I saw for 60+ yards

Am watching the Gamecast replay on ESPN. So on 4th down Denver threw a pass, granted only 4 seconds so assume idea was pass would run out the clock, but bad things can happen when you throw a pass, strip sacjk int, returned for TD, whatever. Without seeing the play hard to know maybe WR was completely open??
-
The cherry on top is that the AFC North is also playing the AFC South, likely the second weakest division of the 8

I beleive you're half right, CBS/Fox assign games to affiliates, however pretty sure the local station can ask for a different one. If you go to 506 Sports you'll often see the game for a specific city changes in the "update" section. I can recall a number of years back one of the local stations in Rochester use to allow people to vote on which early game they wanted on whichever network was not televising Bills game. These days Wyoming will often televise Bills games because of Allen, but the surrounding area gets a different game.

Is the NFL Better than Ever Today?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to May Day 10's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If you think most sports were better 30 years ago, imagine how much better they could have been if you had been able to watch on a 65 inch TV in 1080P. Occasionally you see some grainy clip from back then, how'd we manage to even watch or see anything. Certainly watching with today's technology makes all sports better. -
I wonder with what seems to be just about all the college conference championship games being moved to Dec 19th, will they still move some NFL games to Saturday as planned? In a normal year that Saturday is the first date of some rather meaningless bowl game other than for people connected to the two schools playing so not a bad day for NFL games. Now would be interesting to see who comes out ahead in the ratings, say the SEC or Big 10 championship game or Buffalo Vs Denver for example.

So who are you cutting? I don't think we have an open roster slot so to bring up Sweeney, someone needs to be cut. You suggested benching Knox which I 'd be OK with but doubt they'd be willing to give up and cut him. I've suggested in another thread kicking him in the skins and then place him on IR, that could work.

What Bills need to work on now

Are you talking about football or life in general?? LOL No you don't get an early and late game on the network NOT showing the doubleheader game, which this week is CBS. Fox has two maps as this week they show two games. Next week CBS will have the doubleheader so they will have two maps. If you click on the link below, then go through each week, you'll see how they alternate though not always in exactly alternating fashion. Sometime the same network has two doubleheader weeks in a row. https://506sports.com/nfl/ Because you don't get a late game on the network not showing the doubleheader game unless you are in the home market of one of the two cities playing in that late game, i.e. Miami or Denver OR you live in the city of an early game on the network that has the doubleheader game i.e. Atlanta, Carolina, New Orleans, Detroit, Phi, & Cleveland.

Easier said than done. When your own offense keeps going 3 and out an sprinkle in an Int on top, you never get to rest. And yes Az offense also didn't get much rest, but it always affects the defense more as they are chasing. Throw in a guy like Murray really makes it tiring. That was why the K gun in the 90s worked so well as you'd have an exhausted defense. I'll add to your story: Patient; "Doc, I get really tired doing this" as this dog keeps chasing me Doc: "stop doing that".... Patient "then the dog will catch me" Moral of the story you can't stop doing something if you can't control it, i.e stopping the dog .... in this case can't control not getting any rest.

Read awhile back they may go to a system where they take what would be the likely 2022 "normal cap" assuming full fans in attendance next season, etc and then take the average of the two so that could bump the cap up to around $190 M it stated. If he's still under contract hard to bring him back a reasonable price as then you are only hurting yourself down the road. Can certainly see deals that can be broken with little cap hit happening, but not if the hit is $9 mil as someone stated. Having said all that can see next year being the Bills best window to win as schedule should be easier as will play both NFC and AFC south. Both those divisions have at most likely 2 strong teams and that's assuming Brady, Brees, and Rivers still are able to play at a high level. Likely also need to face Pitt and KC which won't be easy, but even there Big Ben could also be ready to fall apart.

Joshs development has been amazing
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
For years I always said I'd be willing to make a bet that "QB "X" will be a failure" and I'll bet the starting QB for all 32 teams as more fail than succeed so will end up ahead on the bet. Admittedly in recent years no so sure I'd take that bet anymore as there seems to be a resurgence in their overall play. My theory has always been that overall players have got too big, and too fast and with all the computer analysis the game to complicated for almost any QB to process everything fast enough to make the right decision. 10 years back there was maybe a handful who could; Brady, Manning, Brees, Rodgers. Now there seems to be more good young QB's why? Not sure, but maybe the limited practice time reduces the ability for defenses to get as complicated as they use to?? So makes the QB's look good?? -
As I said, thought they played well until mid way thru the 3rd quarter or so when the offense had believe it was 3 straight 3 and out drives, plus throw an int in there too. After that they were gassed. Thought I say half time stats where Az running backs had a bout 60 yards and Murrey 19 yards. I'll take that against the Az offense. Playing against Murrey is like trying to run on black ice. You have to move very slowly or else you miss and that makes it rather tough overall to stop the run particularly when gassed.

I gave up trying to read through an 8 page thread to see if this was mentioned, but in Fairburns column in the Athletic he commented: It also wouldn’t be a surprise if McDermott would rather insinuate Morse had been benched than delve into the concussion situation. McDermott routinely defers to the protocol and declines an answer whenever asked about a player who is dealing with a concussion. Sounds like this is McD's standard reply with anything related to concussions. Also in todays BN it mentioned: With Ford inactive because of an ankle injury, that left the Bills with just eight offensive linemen, including Morse. That would have meant if they had sat out Morse, they couldn't have activated anyone else as the new rule this year requires you to have a minimum of 8 O-lineman active. Let than that you lose the extra active spot. Guess figured dress him in an emergency he could play, but only in an emergency. Think this may have been the only game this season where no lineman got hurt?

Two huge penalties killed the Bills
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Billsfan1972's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Don't know any more. Don't disagree. This entire year has been like a lost year for him. Maybe he too sees thing slipping away so he's pressing? It's almost like they should just shut him down for the year, kick him in the shins and then place him on IR. But that's risky too as thin as we are at TE Another similar player who's slipping back some is Singletary though not certain if it's him or the blocking? I wonder if next game they should sit him and go with Yeldon? Maybe he too needs a wake up message?
