I think Davis Webb is the most obvious choice because of the connection to Josh Allen.  Get to keep an EP system.   Josh Allen isn't going to accept some Joe Pendry type middling re-tread like McDermott might otherwise be in the market for.   And the really hot names like Kubiak are looking for HC jobs.

In the unlikely event that they move on from McDermott the name I wonder about is Matt LaFleur.   If the Packers get bounced early in the playoffs maybe Packers management decides to move on.

With regard to OC, I suspect Josh Allen is going to run the show, not McDermott or Beane. He’s far more valuable than either of them, and at this point I believe they can’t really do anything without Allen’s say-so.

100% gut feeling. It's one thing to be humble and be wrong, but he made an ass of himself this summer on top of poorly constructed roster

As stated earlier, based on Pegula's ownership of the Buffalo Sabres, he's unlikely to swap out either or both of McBeane. Realistically, our hopes for improvement will come from new Offensive and Defensive Coordinators rather than a new GM or Head Coach.

Because coordinators rarely make lateral moves, if/when Brady and Babich are fired, we're either hiring former OCs/HCs or coaches who haven't yet been coordinators. To the latter group, whose coaching tree can the Bills harvest from? Who are the next hot coordinator prospects?

So far, @BearNorth brought up Davis Webb:

Davis Matthew Webb (born January 22, 1995) is an American professional football coach and former quarterback who is the Offensive Pass Game Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach for the Denver Broncos of the National Football League (NFL). He played his first three seasons of college football for the Texas Tech Red Raiders and then the California Golden Bears, before being selected by the New York Giants in the third round of the 2017 NFL draft. In his seven seasons in the NFL, he was a member of all three franchises representing cities in New York, spending the most time with the Buffalo Bills.

On February 23, 2023, Webb was hired by the Denver Broncos as their quarterbacks coach under head coach Sean Payton. Webb had expressed interest in transitioning to coaching duties, having been previously asked by the Bills to be their quarterbacks coach.

Prior to the 2025 season, Webb was promoted to the position of offensive pass game coordinator following the departure of John Morton to the Detroit Lions. He retained his position as the quarterbacks coach, holding both roles simultaneously. Webb is 30 years old.

@EmotionallyUnstable mentioned Alex Tanney as a candidate to be promoted to an OC position.

Colts passing game coordinator (and former Buffalo Bill) Alex Tanney was with the Eagles as Jalen Hurts' QB coach during his ascension. He’s now overseeing the offense of Daniel Jones who is having the best season of his career. Tanney was a two-time All-State QB in Illinois and broke nearly every school record during his time at Monmouth College. During his time in college he also posted a trick shot video that went viral. As an NFL player, Tanney spent time with the Dallas Cowboys, Cleveland Browns, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tennessee Titans, Buffalo Bills, Colts, and New York Giants before retiring in 2020. Tanney is 38 years old.

Other names brought up have been Brian Daboll (Joe Buscaglia had a fairly lengthy article about this in "The Athletic" yesterday, and also a fired Mike McDaniel, or a fired Kevin Stefanski. Mike McCarthy would also theoretically be an OC candidate. Defensively Jim Schwartz' name has come up.

Here’s another name for OC: Shane Waldron.

After playing high school in Oregon and Massachusetts where he graduated from Phillips Academy, Waldron played collegiately at Tufts College as a tight end and long snapper. Early in his coaching career he had two stints with the Bill Belichick Patriots. In fact Belichick is also a graduate of Phillips Academy. Between the Patriots stints, Waldron coached under Charlie Weiss at Notre Dame. He then became Offensive Quality Control Coach under Jay Gruden and Offensive Coordinator Sean McVay with the Redskins, before being hired by Sean McVay in 2017 to be the Rams Tight Ends Coach. One year later he was promoted to Passing Game Coordinator, succeeding Matt La Fleur. The following year he was promoted to Offensive Coordinator, succeeding Zac Taylor who became Head Coach of the Bengals. In all of his 4 years with the Rams, Waldron worked with current Bills OL Coach Aaron Kromer. In 2021 Waldron became the Seahawks OC under Pete Carroll... succeeding Brian Schottenheimer. Last year Waldron was named the Bears OC under Matt Eberflus and lasted 9 games (4-5) before being fired. He is currently the Passing Game Coordinator for the Jaguars. Waldron is 46 years old.

Another name for OC, Cameron Turner.

Turner is the son of longtime NFL offensive coach Ron Turner and the nephew of longtime NFL offensive coach, Norv Turner. Cam Turner is the Colts' current QB Coach under Head Coach Shane Steichen and played QB collegiately at The Citadel. He also played wide receiver. After graduating, he began his coaching career at The Citadel in 2010, working with wide receivers and special teams.

In the NFL he's coached with the Cardinals, the Vikings, and finally with the Cardinals where he was hired by Steve Wilks and then retained by new Head Coach Kliff Kingsbury as Assistant Quarterbacks Coach. In 2021 Turner was promoted to the Cardinals' quarterbacks coach, replacing Tom Clements, who announced his retirement from coaching. In 2022, Turner was promoted to the Cardinals' co–passing game coordinator along with Spencer Whipple.

Turner is 38 years old.

There's more higher ceiling names but I wouldn't mind him. Same with Frank

Van Pelts best offense was 14th. Most recently he was 30th. Pass on Reich as well.

Changing coordinators hasn't exactly been working here.

I'd take Seattle OC Klint Kubiak for HC ... For the back half of Josh Allen's career it would seem like the right thing to do would be to give him an Offensive minded HC and a GM that's a little better at drafting and cap management.

People seem to assume we promote from within because McDermott prefers to. Perhaps no high end coordinator options outside the organization want to work for McDermott.

I strongly doubt it is that. They haven't really done much of a search. The Dorsey hire was open and shut (except for Daboll trying to take him with him to NY) and Brady got the interim job in season and kinda earned his way to keeping it (Josh likes him, he performed well and he was getting an OC job that round if not here then elsewhere).

If they truly did a wide ranging search they'd have their pick of the best out of contract OCs and up and coming offensive position coaches. Problem is only way of getting an upgrade there is likely a good OC on a staff that gets fired OR an offensive Head Coach who gets fired and is willing to take an OC job.

So, on the proviso that the regime - i.e. Beane and McDermott are staying...  and that Josh will not have sufficient power to force Daboll back on McDermott.....  I don't know if it would happen but Mike McDaniel is the obvious name if Miami lets him go or possibly Stefanski (who I do think can design offense better than he calls it but it is hard to know with the QB limitations). I imagine Canales has probably shown enough improvement to get a 3rd year in Carolina. If you are going to promising OC on a fired staff route then Mike Kafka? Bobby Slowick (not OC but passing game coordinator in Miami)? They don't feel like upgrades over Brady to me.

On the other side of the ball Jonathan Gannon is interesting as potential DC. Very similar schematically to McDermott, did an excellent job in Philly and is likely out as Head Coach in Arizona.

I liked Waldron as a candidate last time based on his work with Geno in Seattle. But it was an unmitigated disaster in Chicago. With a QB who doesn't play a traditional drop back pocket game. Now obviously Josh >>>>>>>> Caleb. But I think he is off my list for now.

Since everyone is throwing out names of sons of former coaches why

not Wes phillips?

he has paid his dues as an assistant coach and has worked under some of the best coaches in the league.  Bill callahan, Sean Mcvay, Kevin O’Connell.   He has coached offensive line, quarterbacks, tight ends and is now an OC.

His problem is he likes to drink, also likes to drink and drive.

my hope is for O’Connell to leave Minnesota and come here or Kyle shanahan to have sort of parting of ways in SF.  Neither are going to happen.

would love a proven Offensive Guy to come here and take over and a whole new defensive staff.  I know none of this is going to happen.

In order to get a top candidate and avoid the banned “lateral move” we must move on from McD. With that, a vast field of awesome opportunities open up. The HC job at 1BD is a VERY desirable position.

Names like:

Mike LaFleur (OC Rams / McVay disciple)

Wes Phillips (OC Vikings / Wade’s son)

Klint Kubiac (OC Seattle)

I’m just tired of all the in-house promotion stuff. To me, it’s like they’re all McD wearing different clothes / costumes.

The glasses are a part of the disguise, take them off and you’re staring at Joe Brady. A little color in the beard and sunglasses…Babich 🥸

You're all looking at this incorrectly.  Pegula needs to take a page from the Jerry Jones book: fire Beane, declare himself GM.  Then watch the hilarity as he establishes his puppetmaster regime.  Surely there's someone in WNY high school coaching ranks that can elevate things. 😁

I honestly think Josh will be running the show if they go new OC. He is the franchise and far more valuable than either Beane or McDermott. Plus if Brady goes, it’ll be because Allen WANTS him to go. Allen is the power there now, although he of course has to be willing to exert that power. That’s an open question.

Brady is 100% gone after this season regardless of how this goes.

Theres friction there between him and McDermott and probably him and Josh.

You can sense it in their pressers when asked about him.  Veiled comments and body language = not good.

They turn it around and win it all, great… he gets his pick of HC jobs.  They don’t, and it ends however it ends.. he’s likely off to a college HC job.  Either way, he’s done here.
