Trade Deadline has come and gone

There's a lot of people on this board and probably in the world that accept the incompetence of Mcdermott ans Beane.

 

Most are the types that give their kids participation trophies, or receive them themselves. 

 

I am grateful we are playoff contenders, but every year we fins ourselves knowing the glaring holes that we have before we start the season and this GM never ever addresses it with adequate players.

 

Palmer is Gabe Davis. He was successful when he had Keenan Allen, and Mike Williams as the one and two. He is hurt now just like Samuelz just like everyone JAG they ever give Josh

I’m trying to remember the last trade deadline acquisition the Bills made that amounted to anything. Certainly no one during Beane’s tenure.

1st round: 50% 

2nd round: 33%

3rd round: 16%

4th round: 8%

5th round: 5%

6th round: 2%

7th round: 2%

 

One site I saw showed that the general odds of a team drafting a 5-year starter with any of their picks (overall) is about 21.3%. 

 

The goal is not to get a “starter” by trading picks. The goal is to get a top end player. Quinnen Williams for example - All Pro caliber.

 

The % chance of a team drafting one of those lowers your numbers drastically.

There are several things missing in your analysis:

 

The trade deadline is in the middle of the season. Football isn't a plug and play sport or fantasy, and even if a guy is proven vet it doesn't mean he is gonna just show up and be that guy for your team.

Vets are way more expensive and we are already all in with our roster...there isn't a lot of room.

Unless the guy is on an expiring contract, this year isn't the only one that matters

 

Everyone uses the Rams and Eagles as examples, but that is confirmation bias. What about all the teams that make trades and don't win?  I mean, the BILLS have made deadline deals and the guy was garbage either right away or the next season. It's just not as black and white as you want it to be.

 

 

My analysis is referring to Beane as a GM overall.  Not just the 2025 trade deadline.

 

He started with a reputation of being aggressive and bold.  But over the last many years (with the team on the edge of Super Bowl contention), he's become overly timid with upgrading the roster.  In free agency.  In the draft.  In trades.  While teams in our position should absolutely be making "all-in" moves, Beane is always hedging his bets towards the future.  Some think it's smart.  Many Bills fans believe it's a huge mistake.

 

There were many on this board who wanted to see us attempt a trade-up in the 2024 draft for a WR.  Make a blockbuster move and go up for Malik Nabers, or a smaller move for Brian Thomas Jr.  But nope.  We kept hearing how expensive it was for those oh-so valuable draft picks.  It wasn't even something on the table for Beane.  First round picks are just too valuable.  Of course when our pick rolled around, Beane was so impressed with the top WR on his board that he traded back and just took whoever was left over.  Yay for Keon Coleman.

 

The reason we don't have much cap space is because Beane prefers to fill the roster with 3-4 solid/mediocre players (Josh Palmer, Curtis Samuel, Elijah Moore) instead of making an aggressive trade for a really top-level guy.

If you guys say so but I don’t see it. He hasn’t played well in the little he’s been asked to do so asking him to do more makes no sense anyway. But hey, him and Coleman both had a good camp and that’s enough for Beane so I guess we are stuck with them.

Pass rush was our biggest hole he addressed it well. Sucks Hoecht and Oliver are hurt now. He even hit on Walker in the 4th. Bosa is working out.

 

We need to get faster at skill positions now. I’m sure we will. But it’s going to take another offseason.

 

Coleman sucks. That’s holding us back. That’s on Bean. Guy isn’t perfect but we’ve got a lot better on defense pretty quickly. Injuries obviously ridiculous this year.

One high-end receiver and this offense would have been unstoppable.

 

I understand keeping an eye on the future, but I don't just want to keep losing in the divisional and championship rounds long-term.  At some point we need to go all-in, and Beene refuses to do it.  Do we want a Super Bowl ring, or the consistancy of almost being there?

Felt like a Buddy Nix trade deadline today. I guess Beane is saving his draft capital for either an undersized LB or big, slow receiver he has his eye on.
