eball Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago This game was an eye-opener. It was Cole Bishop’s coming out party and also showed what a boost Mad Max can bring. Bishop had 4 huge PBUs and was always in the right place. Max had the speed to stick with Worthy on an early deep ball, and obviously had a great pick. I realize there were a few “busted” coverages but as @Simon noted they are still trying to piece things together and it was obvious the communication was lacking at times. I believe the ideal “starting five” moving forward is clearly Benford/Hairston/Taron/Bishop/Hancock, with Poyer repping in occasionally. Those guys need to play together continuously and get that communication level where it needs to be, and it could turn what has been a horrible weakness since last year into a sudden strength. On to Miami! 9 3 1 Quote

Lost Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago Hate to say it but I don't think Benford has exactly lived up to his contract this season. Hairston looks promising though. 2 1 6 1 1 2 Quote

Pure speculation on my part, but my guess is that we'll eventually find out he is dealing with an injury that is limiting him, similar to Rapp. CB was too good in past years to have his play drop like it has for no reason. Like Rapp, the options to let him sit and recover have been limited, so I suspect he has had to play through it. Rapp isn't an All Pro, but he is much better than what he showed before going to IR. 1 Quote
eball Posted 9 hours ago Author Posted 9 hours ago This is just my uneducated opinion, but I bet Benford’s perceived “drop off” has more to do with who has been around him than his own play. I think a lot of fans watch football and don’t understand much of what they are seeing; they simply “blame” a player who is close to the play when it’s over and assume that player made a mistake. 2 3 1 Quote

On to Miami! I suspect Poyer is coaching on the field to help the newbies do right. That is OK, in fact, inspired thinking. Poyer is physically less than he was, but, he knows the back end of McD's defense and I understand why he is here now. I guess Hyde could have done this last year, but his physical problems were more serious I think. 1 2 Quote

I had a tinfoil hat thought the other day along these lines. There’s been more injuries showing up in practice this year than any year I can remember. What if some of those are just the player deciding he can keep playing hurt/hiding the injury? What I mean is that a player is playing through injury for weeks, but hiding it from team officials so he doesn’t have to be listed on the injury report. At some point, he realizes it’s not getting better, so he “gets hurt” in the next practice, and all of a sudden is missing games. Note: I don’t actually believe this. But I also can’t disprove it, and at this level of competition I wouldn’t put anything past these players. Quote

He’s been playing pretty well for awhile but nobody has really paid attention because the defense has been so bad overall and he had a couple ‘getting run over by huge RBs in the open field’ plays that would’ve probably happened to most safeties this was his best game for sure but I definitely wouldn’t call it his only good one Edited 7 hours ago by Generic_Bills_Fan Quote

I don’t think it is a coincidence that his two best games came when Poyer was active. 1 Quote

Spelling with Hancock is definitely the plan moving forward to keep him fresh. I may be wrong, but it feels like Bishop/Poyer alternate sides more than Bishop/Rapp had been. I said that when he got the extension. Solid player but he’s definitely not a lock down corner, there is not a single playmaker in the secondary…. Bend don’t break right. Meaning we have to be ok with giving up 4th & 17. 1 Quote
