I didn't notice him once so I take that as a good sign. I'm sure they are protecting him somewhat with the coverage calls, they know he can't just cover 1v1 anymore. The nice thing with Hairston is you can just plaster him to the opponent's fastest WR and trust that he will stay connected to them.

Cook kept cooking.  

 

Simpler concepts on 3rd down resulted in 1st down.  Less cute, more win the rep.  

 

Areas for improvement: 

McD needs to stop the last second defensive TOs.  These seem to favor the offense. 

Also too many instances of the D being ill prepared following an injury to KC.  No excuse for that.  

McDermott saves at least 1, if not 2, TDs with those TOs.

 

Use the TOs when you need them

He called the time out before the Chiefs FG because Hancock was lined up Offside.  It was something like fourth and four and an Offside would have given them a first down.  During the timeout McD pulled Hancock aside and talked to him.  Then when they lined up for the try after the time out, Hancock checked with the line judge at least twice to make sure he was onsides.  That time out likely saved four points as well.

Agree with the not trying to overreact. The kids seems to be a gamer. Add Bishops rise and it makes a HUGE difference on the back end of this D

totally disagree.  McD created a KC TD by extending a drive with one of those.  KC had 4th and 18, was discombobulated, would have tossed an incomplete pass, saved at the last minute by a TO.  

 

Eric Wood was equally miffed by the myriad of defensive TOs and confusion, particularly following KC injuries.

I'm not sure this is true.  KC is just laying on the flattery, they could care less about facing us given their postseason record.

Nice cut up but I am thinking the Hawes target was the right choice. Looks like they’re rolling into a Tampa 2 with Bolton in the hole. It would have been a risky shot to Moore and it looks so open because he’s breaking on Hawes when Allen unloads. Maybe I need to watch it again but given the down and distance I think you take the free yards.

That 2nd last pass by Mahomes was pretty scary.  Hollywood was coming around by the back of the end zone and almost caught it on the deflection.  It's also crazy that it was basically Cole Bishop against the tall KC WR.  I can't imagine we wanted a Hail Mary to be a one on one situation.  Nice play by Cole, timed his jump perfectly.

To be clear I dont post the plays saying one way is the right throw or wrong throw. They are just fun to watch.

 

I was just pointing out I think he can hit moore there.  Hawes is wide open and so is moore.  Hawes seemed like he was surprised by the throw like he wasn't expecting it.  Moore probably runs for 10+ yards if he hits him.  I hope they hit some of these down the road.

I legitimately never knew this until today but Cole bishop is 6’2” apparently haha

I need to know WTF Terrell Bernard is doing on this 4th and 17 play...nobody should be open if he just does what he is supposed to do and he inexplicably turns and runs the other way towards a player already double covered and running into a 3rd defender...like talk about a brain cramp.

Fair enough, but then that leads to the next issue... alignment and why we continue to make simple alignment mistakes on Offense, Defense, and Special Teams. That starts and ends with coaching, and the coaches need to do something about it. It isnt just one player in one phase. It's multiple players across all 3 phases, every game. Can't allow it.

Oh I know, I was commenting on Moran's choice of words. Not sure what Bernard was doing. Seems like he was over-reacting and over-pursuing anyone that came through his zone and got spun around.

Pretty sure he was trailing Rice by about 5 yards on the 4th and 17
