Tyler Lockett asked for and granted his release from the Titans. Do we take a flyer on him?

Here’s the thing - he wasn’t far off on stats from our vaunted Shakir.  With Allen throwing the rock to him, he’d be right there.

Not seeing the "not far off" thing that you are:

Lockett:  21 targets, 10 receptions, 70 yards, 0 TDs, 3 1st downs, Success Percentage 33.3%

Shakir: 34 targets, 25 receptions, 268 yards, 2 TDs, 12 1st downs, Success Percentage 52.9%

I mean, at this point, I wouldn't turn down anything that they think can help.

But a 33 year old that these days works primarily out of the Slot? That's not where we need help. With Palmer down long term, Samuel consistently injured, Keon, Moore, and Shavers unable to create separation and beat single coverage - we really need a Boundary guy who can get open.

If they think Lockett can live there in the shape he's in these days and get open, go for it. But his production and how he's been used by the Titans this season and the team he made his name for washing their hands of him doesn't exactly instill confidence in me that he'd be a big difference maker at his age.

Haven't seen anything about the Palmer injury being "long term." Did I miss something? I heard "week to week," which could easily mean back very soon, just that it's not clear.

Keon and Moore have both had some success and beaten single coverage at times.

Could we use an upgrade at boundary, though? Sure, if it's a good fit.

I have the same reservations as you about how well Lockett would fit our needs here, though.

The Bills big splash at WR will be announcing Gabe Davis is being activated from the practice squad.

It's funny because it's true

Maybe after chiefs trade for waddle, pats trade for Ridley and Steelers get aj brown. We will laugh as we get Lockett in a steal.

Some think Ridley is the Bill's target. He is out with a hammy right now. He's got another 2 1/2 years left on his current contract and he's been paid so there's a cap issue. He is 30 years old. It's reasonable to think that Titans might trade him.

Ridley would remind me of the Cooper trade last year. More risky given the contract...but who knows maybe something could be done to his contract. Ridley would definitely upgrade the WR room, and as Cooper did, open things up for others.

Yeah I don't follow Titans so I don't know whether there is any evidence that Ridley's play is in decline. Cooper was injured when he came to the Bills. Maybe Ridley's contract would be a problem but his compensation given how #1 WRs get paid today is probably not unreasonable. If the Bills can't create the necessary cap space what with all the extensions then they simply cannot afford a #1 receiver or reasonable facsimile. The hole Beane dug himself is too deep.

We need a WR but no. At best he’s on steep decline and more likely he is washed. People only want him because they heard the name, what in the last couple years would excite you about this?

Because he’s a smart veteran that knows what to do when a play breaks down especially from playing w/ Russ all of those years. I just want a guy that can play the perimeter, has reliable hands, doesn’t make mental errors, and knows exactly where to be.

He might’ve lost a step, but he’s better than Keon Coleman. Maybe he can possibly mentor him. Not a bad idea to learn from a SB winning WR and to have him on the roster.

I’m not normally a “sign everybody” guy, but Buffalo seems like they’ve reached a make or break moment. Gotta own up to those mistakes in the draft and do what you gotta do to fix them.

That’s what I’ve been telling anybody that will listen about our receivers. While I would love to add top and talent, we don’t even use the guys we have. This offense is just weird.

This is a big issue, the use of our personnel makes no sense.  They are using Keon poorly and forcing a square peg into a round hole, they dont use a 2 TE attack despite having invested a 1st and a 4th into Kincaid and gazillion dollars into Knox where they always keep one in as a blocker, they aren't using Cook in the passing game much at all, Samuel and Moore get very little consideration despite seeing Samuel running open a lot and Moore gets reverses more than anything, and we are not getting Kincaid and Shakir the targets they should be getting as the two best pass catchers on this team.

Ive been a big Brady supporter the first season and a half was here, and the results spoke for themselves.  But this year, I have been critical of Brady every single week.  I don't think Brady is doing a good job adjusting to how the defenses have adjusted to defend his offense, I think they have over corrected to be too cautious, and I think he is calling a poor game plan where he also gets too cute too much.

To be honest, this reminds me a lot of the downfall IMO of what was Daboll as an OC here.  Once Daboll started getting buzz as both an offensive guru and major HC candidate, suddenly Daboll got pretty stupid on down and short or in key situations where he would try and get too tricky, too gimmicky, as if he wanted to keep raising his hype train more than he cared about calling our best plays in key moments.  Brady IMO has started going that route now after his emergence last season with an offense that grossly exceeded its expectations under his first year as the full time OC.

I am hoping the bye week gives him time to reflect on how to better use our guys and better call a game.  As I have been saying since our loss - Brady should spend the bye studying 2 things:  How Eagles manage down and short and how Atlanta used both Drake and Bijon in the passing game as it was exactly how we should be using Keon and Cook.  Not saying our 2 guys are as good as their 2, but how they moved both around to get them good looks and better opportunities is what we are not doing with either Keon or Cook.

Keon may not be headed for a gold jacket, but I think he can still be a quality football player for this team if he is used properly.  He has proven he can win on slants, crossers, and comebacks yet we don't create many opportunities for him.  We keep lining him up outside and asking him to beat guys off the line, and even when he has, we aren't giving him the targets.  But when we do give him targets its mostly 50/50 balls, and quite frankly, Josh has not been putting the ball in good spots this year on those 50/50 balls either.  So STOP with that route and lets get Keon involved by moving him around and scheming him open.

I think he might be more washed than Cooper. I also think that its Brady thats the issue so getting any WR is going to lead to nothing unless you have Josh call his own plays or Brady maybe plays some more Madden 26 and adds to his playbook (written on a napkin).

In other news, old friend Ray-Ray has been let go from Atlanta under mysterious circumstances.  I don’t want him here, just thought it was interesting

He has the dreaded McDermott "week to week".

When his "day to day" often results in inactives (sometimes two weeks) and his "week to week" often results in being out as long as an IR (as seen recently with Ed Oliver) - i'd consider Palmer's at least a few more weeks. Especially with how bad it looked and it being an ankle on a guy who runs routes.

I believe, had we not had a bye, they'd have probably IR'ed him. There's still an off chance they still could tomorrow. I think they hope with the Bye, he'll miss 2-3 weeks and IR wasn't necessary. But again, we've seen instances like Oliver in recent memory where "Week to Week" has meant 4 weeks down.

It really boils down to what you consider long term. When it comes to McDermott, there's only 3 designations - "Day to Day", "Week to Week", and "IR". IR (especially) at this point is anywhere from done to *maybe* we'll get them back for the Playoffs. His week to week is long term to me.

Lockett has over 8600 yards and 61 tds in his career. Not sure how much tread is left on the tires but he had 600 yards receiving last year which is more than we normally get from our starting wrs. We don’t have to give up any draft picks so why not bring him in. He is likely to be better than holding out hope that Davis can give us something coming off an acl. Beane could still make other trades at wr or other positions to help upgrade the roster. I don’t see much of any downside.

This isn't a rhetorical question...  Set the stats aside; what skills does Lockett add at this point in his career that we don't already have on the roster?

I would cut Moore who has done almost nothing for us so far this season. Lockett is not the same player he was when he was having 1000 yards receiving last seasons but he might still have something left in the tank at 33. I would say he brings some veteran savvy to the wr room with solid route running. He does not have the same speed he once had but maybe he could be a John Brown like wr for us. Moore has been a 500-600 yard guy in 4 seasons and might not crack 300 with us this year. I also think he could push Samuel  just by staying healthy and available. Mix Lockett in with Keon to give opposing defenses different looks. And I’ve seen little from Shavers as a receiver other than some solid blocking so I think Lockett would have the chance to give the Bills wr room a slight boost. He is obviously not a number 1 wr or even a number 2 anymore but sometimes having a veteran like a Hopkins, Kupp, Thielen etc on your team is not so bad as you just hope to count on them to come up big for you in a few clutch moments. Again, he has played so little this year with an erratic rookie qb that it is hard to say how much is left in the tank but I’d like to find out as our current wr room needs help.
