oh I tend to agree here but my point was if that’s the risk of pulling the plug and getting a new voice in the teams head…. There’s not a whole lot of downside and just maybe it clicks for the building?

so many posters act like there’s a risk of missing the playoffs for 20 years if we lose McDermott. The reality is even with a “miss” we likely win the division, and then what, lose to KC by 10 instead of 5? I think we are to the point of just needing to try something new if we don’t materially breakthrough this year.

Let me ask you this...

Who are you bringing in to replace Sean McDermott? Technically choose somebody who could be available.. like we're not getting Andy Reid from the Chiefs

He's a better Coach than John harbaugh

Dude if we had 6 all pros with Josh Allen we would win the super bowl LOL

We beat the Ravens last year who had 6 all pros and like 10 pro bowlers... We beat them a couple years ago when they had more pro bowlers

It's not just Josh Allen McDermott out coaches him and their coaches in plenty of game time situations

I'd be more in favor of a retread because the clock is ticking and we don't have time for someone learning on the job. Vrabel to me was the perfect candidate but too late for that. If Cleveland fires Stefanski that would be by #1 pick and he can bring Schwartz with him. Brian Flores would intrigue me, perhaps paired with Mike McDaniel as the OC. After that it's Kliff Kingsbury and Vance Joseph as former head coaches that have since had successful stints as coordinators although I'm not gonna say I feel especially confident in either of them. At a certain point though it just has to be time to try something different and Allen entering his 30s seems like the obvious threshold if the current regime can't get it done.

I blame McD more than Beane. IMO he is the one making the call on these over the hill former Bills.

McDermott is running the show.

Always has.

He chose Beane as his GM and is Terry’s son now.

I was kidding. You asked a question that can’t be answered in the middle of a season.

For me, I just want to be free’d of this defensive nightmare so give me any offensive minded guy and then choose a new defense. If that defense stinks, get another one.

See, we don’t have that freedom with McD and it’s been absolute torture for almost a decade.

Week 5 of the season, no one. I think you need to see the landscape in a few months.

in recent years I’ve said I’d make the move for Payton or harbaugh.

I don’t know how I feel about the idea of Brady, as I think this far into the current regime you may not want ghosts lingering in the halls. Though he’s the type of guy I’d be eager to see.

I’m not huge on kingsbury but do have some of that “what, will he only win 11-12 games?” sentiment about him. As long as Josh is upright we aren’t going 6-11 or anything.

Monken kind of similar in my thoughts, though very different profiles between these two.

call me wild but even the kubiak brothers could be an interesting hc/oc pair

the thing is I don’t know any of that makes us better but I really don’t think it makes us worse and at some point we have to see if a move makes us better

Seems we aren’t far off

i avoided the DC options, but honestly if we might be rounding the post on Allen’s career, I’m becoming less worried about successful OCs being poached if we hire a defensive guy with a great OC penciled in. Only so many years left

Now you've got me thinking @Buffalo716 so a couple other names to add on - Robert Saleh and I imagine a lot of people are rolling their eyes because of how his stint with the Jets went, but was that him or was that abysmal ownership and QB play? If nothing else he always had his defense playing at a top tier level and even showed an aptitude for slowing down Josh Allen which means he can slow down anyone. San Francisco's defense has played very well this year despite being banged up. If it were Saleh the OC pick would have to be right, and I'd again lean towards Mike McDaniel who I think works much better as a coordinator than as a head coach.

And just to throw out one name that isn't a retread, I'd look for the young offensive upstart coach and the best name available that fits the description would be Klint Kubiak. He had the Saints offense rolling last year until Carr's career ending injury and now he has Sam Darnold playing the best football of his career.

If I was going to rank the options I've laid out:

1) Stefanski (if he gets fired)

2) Flores

3) Saleh

4) Kubiak

5) Kingsbury/Joseph

So now you know I'm not just blowing smoke when I talk about replacing McDermott. There are realistic options out there and I don't think the floor could really be much lower as long as Allen is in his prime. We've got maybe 5 years before his physical abilities start to really decline and it's going to be a real shame if we waste all of them because we're trigger shy.

Yeah I'm kind of at a point now where the experience matters more than the specialty. Anyways Allen can be successful with pretty much any offensive coach as we've seen so if anything a defensive guru that can form them into a legit top 5 defense might be better for his last few prime years. The offense has always done its job against KC no matter the coach, if the defense can just show up we're racking up Super Bowl appearances.

stefanski, if he brought Schwartz with him, would be enticing.

I’d love Flores as DC, not a head coach.  We’d be slinning our wheels hiring a new OC every two years for the rest of Allen’s career.  If we move on from McD, we better bring in an offensive guy so Josh can have some consistency. I’d much rather give Brady a shot then another Dc

Saleh huh?  😩 uuuuugh seems like a DC only guy to me. see above about a defensive guy.

I’m going to start looking into Kubiak.  Don’t know enough about him.

pass on Kliff.  Just not a fan

Good point.  It didn’t sway me, but I definitely understand that line of thinking 👍🏻

Sometimes change is good, just for change sake.  Shake things up a little bit.  The organization has been the same since the 2017 season.  Need some new ideas, new schemes, new concepts, look at some different type of players at WR and across the defense.  How about Nick Saban?  I don't know if he would want to go back to the NFL at his age, and give up all his commercials and ESPN College Game Day.  But the guy is a winner.  And he has a lot more fire than McDermott ever brings on the sidelines.

this.  We are going to keep getting what we have been getting with McD.  Gotta try to shake something loose.  And it's not like we revert back to the drought era.
