I watched the final punt roughing play again.  Ferguson completely missed his block.  It was a jailbreak right up the middle that probably should have been blocked.

At least two of his FG/XP snaps were low and inside. Good catch and hold by Johnston.

I must admit I did not pay much attention to him the first three weeks.  Has anyone noticed any issues?  With all the FG/Punt blocks in the league this year, he needs to be better.

The almost FG block against Baltimore was not his man.

Blocking isnt high on the a long snappers list of duties. They're considered Defenseless Players while their "head is down, and he is in a vulnerable, unprotected state after the snap". If opposing players are coming directly through him, he needs to learn how to sell that penalty. If they are shooting the gaps on either side of him, that's on the Guards.

As long as his snaps are on target, he's good.

Something is definitely going on around the NFL this year...way, way more blocks on all types of kicks than I can ever remember.

Very true. But they're coming from all over. Some up the middle, some off the edge... It's not teams all doing the same thing to get there.

But it is weird.

Long snappers have protections in rushes where they aren’t responsible for snap rushers. If a rusher takes him on it’s a penalty. The gaps around him are the responsibility of the players next to him.

I think he got bowled over the last time we got the roughing the kicker call…

So, in terms of outcome, it's a rather brilliant play. Both times, it has changed the game. Give Reid a raise!

It’s time for a new long snapper.  Rams last year ran over Reid last year and that was the winning play against us.

He had two bad penalties yesterday, and a bad long snap

Didn’t he have a holding penalty too?

Yep. And a false start.

He was poor last night. Two penalties, two bad FG snaps, whiffed block. I think this might be his last year.

I have wondered whether teams might change up how they kick. What would happen if the placekick was placed an extra 3 yards back? Or if kickers on short FGs used no steps to wind up?

I also still don’t get why the NFL doesn’t allow for the whacky college punt formations.
