Ethan in Cleveland Posted September 23 Posted September 23 Congrats to Kelvin! I honestly didn't know he was the Lions DC. Glad to see him doing so well. He was destined to be the guy in the Jerry Hughes trade but he has made an impressive transition into a coaching career. If Lions keep playing at this high level he will be sure to get some HC interviews. THIS IS NOT AN ANTI-McDERMOTT THREAD. Just honest praise for a guy that has some remote ties to the Bills 26 3 3 Quote

NewEra Posted September 23 Posted September 23 He called a helluva game yesterday. Lamar also showed his worts vs the blitz. It’s as if he forgot that teams were allowed to bring more than 4 rushers. 1 1 Quote
Yobogoya! Posted September 23 Posted September 23 It probably helps a little bit that the Lions have some serious talent on that side of the ball- but it was fun watching his defense get after Lamar last night for sure. Worth noting that they're currently bottom-10 in points allowed. Be interesting to see how they progress throughout the year. 2 Quote
zow2 Posted September 23 Posted September 23 It wasn't just the blitz. Did anyone else notice whenever Lamar stepped up in the pocket to run, there was almost always a spy there to slow him down. And in the process of Lamar starting to juke the spy, the D-Linemen that were already well out of the play, had time to run back and tackle Lamar from behind. Often times Lamar didn't know they were coming so he's lucky not to have fumbled a couple times. This was just a great scheme to slow Jackson and great effort by the Lions D-linemen. 3 2 Quote
Coach Tuesday Posted September 23 Posted September 23 He was always a cerebral player, albeit an ineffective one. Not dissimilar to Terrell Bernard in that the Bills were hoping he'd outperform his athletic testing due to his instincts and leadership (team captain at LSU etc.). Just didn't happen in the NFL but not surprised he's a good coach now. As I said in another thread I'd expect Bernard to be a coaching candidate someday. 3 1 Quote
May Day 10 Posted September 23 Posted September 23 Good for him. Heard his name last night and was happy he has risen to a prominent job. 1 Quote

He thought he had a lane to escape through and a second level defender would seal it quick. seemed like he was beating the more traditional blitzes pretty easily 1 Quote

Meeting Henry in the hole, standing him up, flying to the ball... it was definitely impressive to watch Campbell and Anzalone yesterday 1 Quote

BigAl2526 Posted September 23 Posted September 23 Less athletic players who happen to be smart often make good coaches. They are used to getting the best out of themselves and know how to teach others to do the same. 1 Quote
Lagoon Blues Posted September 23 Posted September 23 They definitely had a seriously good game plan going into last night and executed. Quote
DrDawkinstein Posted September 23 Posted September 23 I was proud of him last night (and in general). Good for Kelvin. 1 Quote

AlCowlingsTaxiService Posted September 23 Posted September 23 Congrats to him. I expect to see him running his own program someday soon. He was part of one of the Bills most beneficial trades, bringing us Jerry Hughes, so I’ll always like him 😂 Quote
Steptide Posted September 23 Posted September 23 I could be thinking of a different player, but wasn't he the one that had some kind of sexual involvement with a 70 year old woman or something? I can't remember the story exactly but I thought it was him Quote
Charles Romes Posted September 23 Posted September 23 Maybe we could get Jerry Hughes to coach our defense to bring things full circle. 1 Quote

Aidan Hutchinson said after the game that they basically stopped "playing games" meaning stunts and just rushed Lamar straight up. It's like The Jordan Rules... in a copycat league, maybe other teams will try to imitate the Lions. 20 minutes ago, Steptide said: I could be thinking of a different player, but wasn't he the one that had some kind of sexual involvement with a 70 year old woman or something? (BTW, you're thinking of Kellen Winslow Jr) Seriously on the discussion, the Lions and Dan Campbell lost both their Offensive and Defensive Coordinators this offseason and along with them, 6 other position coaches... Dan Campbell is a great coach. Edited September 24 by Sierra Foothills 1 1 1 Quote
