just the fact that a fifth rounder is playing on an offense this good and getting called out for all good reasons is pretty exciting

I joked before that Hawes has been the rookie to have shown the most so far.

I'm not joking anymore

I mean, between Hairston being on IR and Jackson, Hancock, and Lundt being on the healthy scratch every week - that distinction really comes down to just Hawes, Sanders, Walker, and Strong.

Hawes continues to show he's an upgrade from Quintin Morris. A helluva blocker and a guy who comes up with a single important catch a game. Good on him for being in the right spot for that shuttle pass.

Walker had just as important of a play, if not more, when it came to winning as Hawes today. He caused that INT to happen:

Hawes is going to pull a Benford & supplant our 1st round toothpick WR posing as a TE 🙃

I think Kincaid must’ve read this please call him a toothpick before every game

I have a feeling we'll see Hancock out there at some point this season. And we'll like what we see. Kid flashed in preseason (and practice) then banged up his shoulder right before the season started, unfortunately. He was finally back healthy as of Tuesday or Wednesday of THIS WEEK, so I wouldn't read into tonight's scratch too much. (He might be caught in a numbers game in the immediate future, but I suspect there will be injuries and/or critical personnel evaluations that end up with Hancock on the field in some capacity.

I think it's more of a numbers game right now. If there's an injury to Nickel or Safety, then he'll be in.

But with everyone healthy there and the guys they have in for depth being core Special Teamers and him not being that - I don't know that there's a spot for him on the GameDay 48, even if he is healthy and had more time to practice.

We’ll lose knox after this season for one year, then he’ll be back for the practice squad legend spot.

Knox will be the first Bills Legend of the Game to Lead the Charge while still an active player.

For all the criticism of Knox, this might be the best trio of tight ends in Bills history (given Hawes is as good as he appears to be) and maybe the best in the league right now. For instance, I would take these three over McKeller, Metzelaars, and Butch Rolle, as good as they were.

They're heading in that direction for sure.

Yikes. 91 dumped him like a child. He’ll get *****  for that in film room.

Yep, big Matthew Butler.

I didn't think it was possible for Hoss to be done like that.

That's what an extra 60 pounds will do for you... still impressive.

Look how Hawes positions himself in the soft spot... staying ahead of the pursuit while not running into the coverage.

Great feel for the game.

Watching the Jets game again, and also thinking about his performance against the Ravens… Hawes is a baller.

The guy LOVES contact. I genuinely think he craves it. He engages the block, drives his defender backward and does not stop until after the whistle.

I can’t remember the last time i’ve seen a Bills TE who can block this well. Maybe ever?

He may make Knox disposable. Especially with his constant propensity to drop balls.

Three games is a little early for the best blocker ever title.  I like Hawes too but it way too early to say such things.

Butch Rolle was another backup TE that could block and he was a special teams demon.   Pete Metzellars was a fabulous blocker,  he was a starting TE that blocked like we had a 3rd tackle out there.  Levy said Metzellars  had no peer as a blocking TE - pretty lofty praise and well earned.

The Bills have had many outstanding blocking TEs and only a few good receiving TE's.

Going back to the 1960's championship teams, Paul Costa was as excellent TE and that made two AFL All Star teams, he eventually was moved to OT and he excelled there.

Keep up the good work Hawes, I do like the 3 TE sets and this could be a big advantage in bad weather.

Oh that is no joke... he is far and away our best rookie producer to date...  Like I wonder if Beane should trade all his day 1 and 2 picks and just go Rds 4-7 like load up 18 picks in those rounds LOL... he seems to have a bit of a knack there... lol... ( yes that was mostly kidding.... but... hey)

I know it's a little weird that we are being so effusive about a 5th round blocking TE but it's not just about how well Hawes is adapting (he's doing great) it's that he's effectively letting us run our Jumbo/6OL sets while not needing to declare eligibility and actually be a passing threat

I hope Hancock gets some opportunities. I liked his preseason a lot. Without injuries I'm not sure he'll get a jersey, but we'll see.

Hawes had multiple reps where 1-on-1 he simply controlled and moved one of the Dolphins' vaunted edges right out at the point of attack. Metzelaars did come to mind...

Jackson Hawes has added such an interesting element to this team. Candidly, I didn’t know much about him when they took him other than he was a great blocking TE. You could see the vision though with the pick. He’s basically replaced Alec Anderson and done so in a manner that keeps the option to throw out there. He has been a fantastic addition so far.
