I was very high on him coming out of the draft and was one of my favorite picks this draft. Obviously I liked him more for his blocking but if he shows prowess in the passing game we may have gotten a true steal

Can he play some FB too? We don’t need Gilliam taking up a roster spot IMO.

also great to see Knox more involved early.  Would like to see him more, he’s good.  And it helps to have a real TE, Kinkaid is really just a WR.

Gilliam plays a big special teams role. Not sure Hawes does that.

Hawes is legit an excellent blocker. It's refreshing to have a guy come in and actually display the bold print skill in his draft profile. As far as his catch, it was pretty lucky. Gotta catch it away from the body and he waited for it to hit his chest. Maybe it was just the angle of the throw or whatever that kept him from getting his hands out but most of the time the bounce isn't going to be that fortunate.

To that point, did we run ANY 6 OL Fronts last night? Or has Hawes eliminated that need?

Anderson only got 3 snaps so must be either gameplan or Hawes had taken his role

I think that role just increased its IQ by 100

He struggled to make that catch, but stayed with it.  Good for him.  He doesn't have the speed to play a role as a primary pas catching TE, but if he can catch the ball when called upon, he'll make teams pay when they over play the more likely receiver.

That one catch just explained why. When Anderson or whoever 6th Lineman comes onto the field, defenses know a power run is coming, or a play action shot downfield. When Hawes is on the field, you now have to have someone capable of taking on his blocking at the point of the attack as well as covering him as a weapon. Just more difficult for a defense.

We'll see if he's just another Lee Smith or something more: finding soft spot in defense and the hands. So far we know he has questionable hands for sure.

Had a big catch, didn't hear anything negative about missing any blocks on the commentary, no complaints here

Technically he caught it three times but the stats line only says one reception...

Love seeing that on tape. May give teams a little pause when he is out there taht it is not 100% running plays

Love the big play by Jackson Hawes late in the game there, and what a strike by Allen, and good job to hang onto by Hawes. But why on earth is our rookie, 3rd string blocking TE on the field in such a big moment when we have Kincaid and Knox?  It's not like it was a disguised pass where we showed a run look and had the blocking TE slip out, this was a late game passing situation.  Worked out this time but would not in most cases. Need to hear an explanation from the coaching staff on that.
