MJS Posted September 8 Posted September 8 Just give the defense a pass on yesterday's game and see how they do going forward. Really. We do not match up well against the Ravens. But hey, we still find ways to beat them. 1 Quote

It would be a huge mistake for the Bills FO/Coaches to follow this advice. Oliver was incredible and Bosa showed up in the second half. Benford made a play in clutch time. Those are nice pillars to build on, but that Defense we saw last night likely prevents us from getting to a Super Bowl… again. We get Hoecht, Ogunjobin and Hairston back. Sanders, Walker, Solomon and Bishop will get more experience and should get better & better with reps. But they need to drastically improve as the season goes on & it can’t just be a reliance on Baltimore choking in big moments. Edited September 8 by SCBills 2 Quote

And a lot of the Ravens successful runs came about while the DTackles did their jobs, but the 2nd level didn’t for various reasons. Behind that they seemed to pressure Lamar quite often on drop backs. As for the thread title? You wait. This was Cole’s first start in his career. He’s an incredible athlete. Now give the coaches a chance to do their work. He may or may not turn out to be what the bills need, but you cant short circuit the process. You gotta be patient The Ravens are a really unique challenge for any defense. I agree with your point but they’re not going to change Dline personnel because of investment there and they have a lot invested in LB, the only place they’re going to change personnel is in the secondary. I mean their probably saying this a touch about us today too Quote

Everyone was saying how great the Ravens D is; wonder what their fans are saying this morning. Quote

AND, it's against a tough rival. I'd wait a few more weeks before deciding anything. This game isn't a good indicator of anything right now. My perspective is the opposite. I'm hoping if the coaches had doubts (which they should have, as we did), and they were shown against Balt (which seems like they were), they know they need to act. This game was a litmus test against one of the top opponents. The back end is a problem. Giving time against the fraudulent teams of NYJ, Miami, New Orleans, and New England proves little - is fools gold. Sure, let Bishop learn/improve but the problem runs deeper than that. Maybe do something like what they did for WR last year, scout the losing teams for a star and potential trade. Or just buy J Simmons. But twhatever it is this time don't cheap out and go for an A Cooper over a D Adams. Get a star in here. Do not wait. And do not let the lesser games decide the actions needed for the Lombardi. Get a bonafide difference maker in and replace one of the back end fodder and you improve the defense exponentially. I may be a little ahead of myself but I hope they see it as I do and the number 1 seed is now there for the taking! Go for it! 2 Quote

Hamlin is NOT the answer. I’d rather see a Bishop/Hancock pairing myself. Get some athleticism back there even if it comes at a cost of giving up plays (mentally). We’re giving up those plays physically right now, so might as well go with a full on youth and athleticism movement. Why do people keep saying Bishop is athletic? Are there examples of plays where he shows this consistently? 1 Quote
TFBillsfan Posted September 8 Posted September 8 Can’t change it now but Beane really should have drafted Xavier Watts, S, ND, versus selecting Landon Jackson in the 3rd. 1 1 1 Quote
34-78-83 Posted September 8 Posted September 8 Bishop looked waaaaaaay better than Rapp last night for those of us discussing it in my section last night at the game. No issues with keeping the kid in there. He's going to improve. Rapp, I am not so sure... He's just limited but has his games occasionally. 1 1 Quote

I know on one specific huge Henry run I saw it looked to me like he abandoned his gap, turned his back to it allowing him to get washed out an extra 5 yards... At times it looked to me like he was running around with little to no purpose... I'll wait to see... But my initial reaction was that he was terrible... He was bad last night. I’ve never been a Bernard guy. He’s horrible in run defense and is easily pushed around. He's too undersized to be a MLB. Sean McDermott still hasn’t found his Luke Kuchely at MLB. TBH the Bills haven’t had a great mlb maybe since London Fletcher? It’s a weak point in our defense and I expect teams going forward to attack him. Milano didn’t look great either. 1 Quote

If it’s any comfort, the Ravens are our worst opponent in terms of matchups, which football is all about. I doubt we will face a team as good as them, on both sides of the ball, for the rest of the regular season. Quote

The jets have to play fast and loose. Let's hope we have the ponies to keep up especially considering we have Miami w short rest. Quote
Breakout Squad Posted September 8 Posted September 8 I thought Bishop looked horrible out there. Looked like he was running straight into blockers. Quote
BigAl2526 Posted September 8 Posted September 8 I don't think there is really a better option than Bishop at the free safety spot. He will grow through the season. I've given my opinion of Rapp elsewhere. He's smart and tough but his lack of speed and athleticism is always going to be a liability. The Bills are probably stuck with him this season, but an upgrade is needed at some point. How about Dillon Thieneman in the 2026 draft? Quote
frostbitmic Posted September 8 Posted September 8 The Ravens OC knows how to destroy a smallish nickel Defense, just run Henry down their throats and then just for fun, run Jackson. Maybe for games against the Ravens, dump the Nickel for a 3rd DT and play a 5 man line, at least it would be unexpected. Quote

He likes to launch himself shoulder-first into the ball carrier. I hope Hancock looks better because I don’t like any of our options. I agree on Rapp. One Henry run displayed an obviously bad angle by Rapp (everyone saw that one). Rapp looked very slow. On another big Henry run, Rapp launched himself shoulder first into Henry as he came through the line. Rapp just bounced off Henry’s thigh/hip and Henry wasn’t even slightly slowed down. Rapp’s best hit may have been on Benford after Hopkins caught the TD pass. Edited September 8 by Tulsabillsfanz 1 Quote

I dont see any of those traits and it does not look like he has added any muscle at all. Is he in the weight room at all? The guy looks like skin and bones and he does not play very fast. 1 1 Quote
