From this camera angle, you can definitely see Coleman was shoved out. The 2 pointer should have counted.

 

 

@Einstein asked earlier what does he have to do to re-establish himself.  Not sure if you know the answer or not, but it's simply getting 2 feet back in bounds.

 

Although, I am hearing from others that you can't re-establish at all if you are forced out the back of the endzone. The rulebook says "legally" forced out. Whats legally? Is it not illegal contact anyway you look at this?

If Josh was outside of the pocket, illegal contact basically doesn't exist (and it is very close but I think he may have been out of the pocket).

 

Even if he was still inside the pocket, I think you could argue the contact doesn't rise to the level of illegal contact but ultimately I think they got this call right, or at least I think it's close enough that it could go either way and be justified.

Playing devil’s advocate……do you think that some of those fans just said to themselves “it doesn’t look good and I can save burning a day off from work if I beat the traffic and get home early”? They took a calculated gamble, and to be honest that gamble didn’t look like that much of a gamble.

Probably and whilst that is totally understandable and logical to do, the game wasn’t out of reach coupled with it being opening day of the final season at the Ralph… there was plenty to stick around for.

Yes we get all that. The point is his D has sucked and he would be gone because he is too stubborn to change his philosophy. He'd rather watch his team get run all over and have WR open all night than admit he might be wrong.

Agreed, the night game contributed to the decisions. If this was a 1pm game, not many would have left.

i have only left one game absurdly early and that was the chargers season opener years ago. leaving with much of the 4th quarter saved me almost 2 hours getting home - zero traffic out of the lots and on the roads. leaving 4 minutes early in another game (i forget who but i was sitting with Jack so maybe he remembers) saved me an hour getting home.

 

(mind you i head west and south, vs everyone else)

Slightly off: Henry actually has 2548 touches inclusive of receptions) and 21 fumbles overall - 0.82%. If you include his 211 postseason touches and one fumble, he is 0.797%.

Some observations on the DL:

I was disappointed how many times the veterans, Bosa and AJ, bit on the run fake and let Lamar get outside.

I was surprised to notice Solomon in on the first series.  Seems he played a lot this game. I'll be interest to see the snap counts.

Sanders stood out to me on a few plays; Walker did not.

I hope this is the Ed Oliver we see all season--mostly unstoppable.

 

All in all, I'm encouraged with the young guys--trial by fire.  We will need them come February...

Not gonna lie, this was ALMOST my group.  We had a guy all the way in from Minnesota who wanted to stay so we stuck it out. Thank God for that!

You don't know what you are talking about. What is the McDermott defensive philosophy according to you, and then tell me the defensive philosophy of last night's game. And explain to me how the defense hasn't adjusted, please. Do you even know what you are watching, or are you just parroting things you are hearing? The Bills had a COMPLETELY different style of defense than they have in the past yesterday. Tons of man coverage and blitzing. Dorian Williams played a ton in base defensive packages with three linebackers.
