Every season the Chiefs have losses like this and everyone starts writing their epitaph.  Then they persevere. Never count them out. We could get crushed in our house Sunday night and we’ll bounce back like the Chiefs will. That said- I don’t think they’ll benefit from the calls anymore so there is that. The free ride is over. They’ll have to win without that edge.

Well, last year, they miraculously won many games like this. Look at their last two games; I think the clock is ticking for them.

Thanks San Diego.  Now when we beat the Ravens, we will be one game up on KC and Baltimore for Home Field Advantage, one game into the season.

We’d be two up on Baltimore in that scenario

It's over!

KC dynasty is done. It's Baltimore and Burrow to get past now.

I doubt it.  It is gone game.   Mahomes played pretty good..His defense didn't show up.  (Sounds a familiar story !!!)

Just watched... thoughts....

- Justin Herbert played great and I thought Greg Roman called a great game. In particular his designed plays against the Chiefs man coverage and all out blitz were excellent;

- I thought even without Rashawn Slater the Chargers line held up reasonably well. That is going to be critical to them having success this year;

- Losing Worthy early was clearly a huge blow to Kansas City. I think when all 3 are available Rice, Worthy, Brown has the potential to be the best 1-3 receivers Mahomes has had in his career. Brown - JuJu - Thornton however is a bottom of the NFL group (and I also think Pacheco is one of the weaker starting running backs, his limitations are now very obvious);

- Goes without saying Jawaan Taylor in particular had a rough night on the Chief offensive line. Hope those refs have set a standard for the season his false starts, because he has gotten away with too much for too long;

- I thought the Chiefs defense really struggled. The lacked pressure up front and McDuffie apart do not have the peices on the backend to do the match coverage stuff Spags wants to do. The only points where they look like making plays are when they are running the uber aggressive looks and as I said above by and large Roman and Herbert had the answers.

Will the Bills run a similar pass heavy game against the Chiefs when we play them?

Hard to be dynamic with their wr1 suspended and wr2 knocked out on the 3rd play of the game. They’ll be a different team when those guys are back.

The last time they lost a season opener they won the Super Bowl. Let’s slow down here.

No way, I thought it was just the Bills who get injuries? 🤦

KC's offense has been pedestrian for a shocking amount of time now. Andy Reid has his hands full for sure.

Golden opportunity for the rest of the AFC.

Yeah, my first thought when I saw this.  The dude pulls up to not get baited into 15 yards and Mahomes lays him out in response.

It's bull**** and I hope players start absolutely lighting him up.  Take the 15 if you have to.  This is ridiculous.

I’ve been wishing that someone would destroy Mahomes on one of his cutesy scrambles along the sidelines.  That crap has been going on for several years now.  It would be worth the 15 yard penalty.

Good to see the Chiefs lose.  But not just lose, bickering among themselves too.

I missed that (and the game) and really, really would have enjoyed seeing it. Who was bickering?

Then he calls for the flag!

It's stunning sometimes.

He sees the field poorly, his ball placement is not good, he has minimal escapability and he lacks any sort of internal fire.

He's got a great toolbox, but nothing to really put into it.

He escaped once or twice last night but his vision is terrible, often running right into the tackle. His las run was his best.

KC has battled some injuries in the regular season as of late.. and then they all come back for the postseason, Chiefs somehow get the Bye week to rest up… rinse and repeat.

The Chiefs certainly are not done after week 1 but their are certainly a lot of things to be excited for as a Chiefs hater

1. The Chiefs now have to deal with two HOF coaches and Harbaugh who have had success at the NFL level. From 2020 to 2024, the Chiefs had lost 4 non-final week of the season divisional games. They already have one loss this year.

2. Though I believe the Chiefs have done an admirable job of at least trying to add receiving talent via the draft, none of them will seem to help these next few weeks. Worthy may be done for awhile, Rice is out another 5 weeks, Skyy Moore they traded before the season, Jalen Royals was a healthy scratch. The Chiefs could get away with a bad receiving corp for so many year because Kelce was their top receiver. Prime Kelce is gone though so they don’t have someone to bail them out on offense.

3. The defense that anchored the team the last 3 years did not look good vs the pass. They still looked good against the run. But for a team that has averaged less than 23 points on offense (also seen this last game) per game since 2023, that should be a big issue. Especially when they have the 11th hardest projected strength of schedule.

Go Bills!

Nice to see KC lose, but they just look rusty (which is how we will probably look at times tomorrow). But its fun to watch all the miscues and bad routes.

Week 1 is like jumping into the tub to see how the water is.

The Chiefs will get better, but they just lost Worthy for an extended period of time. I'm guessing 6-8 weeks at least. They get Rice back in 5 weeks. Come Playoff time, they'll be the typical Chiefs barring injuries to key players.

Honestly my best hope is that while they bounce back if they can rack up some early losses the Bills can build a lead on them so that the KC vs Bills match could theoretically shut the door on their hopes of the 1 seed

Chris Jones blew the Chief's chance for a comeback.  With 2:15 Chiefs had not timeouts left and Chargers had 3rd and 12.  If they stop them, Mahomes gets the ball with 2 minutes down 6 and we've all seen that movie before.  Chargers decided to pass, and the RT stayed wide, and so Jones cut inside him to go for the sack and lost contain and there was NOBODY on that side of the field.  Herbert ran for like 17 yards.  First down, victory formation.  As they came out of the 2 minute timeout they showed shots of Tranquill giving Jones an ear full and Jones jawing back at him.

Me too. But I think Baltimore will be up there again, and I also think Cincy bounces back this year. I have a feeling their offense is gonna come out on a tear and Burrow will be the early talked up favorite for MVP. I believe our biggest threat for the #1 seed is whoever claims the AFC North.
