Week 1 is a good opportunity to catch them off guard and steal a win.

Head to Head first tie breaker

It's sounds cliche but whoever can run and stop the run will win. I don't see Josh stepping off the golf course or Lamar off his couch and lighting up the passing game in week 1. I don't think either of them played a preseason down this year.

I do think Henry/Cook both have the ability to put the other team on their heels early in the game.

So if I had to guess JA stats, I'll say 280yds, 40 rushing, 2 combined TDs, and 1 Int. Solid game, but he's just getting warmed up.

Ravens #1 Run D

Josh Allen has a passer rating of 66.3 with 613 yards, 2 touchdowns and 1 interception in 4 games versus the Ravens in his career.  Most yards, 213, highest completion % 55.2.  Defense is going to need to show up, Along with the Running game.

So just like most NFL games against good teams (i.e., need a more complete game)?

I hope that's not the case, since the Ravens were #1 in rush offense AND rush defense last year.

Frankly, the Ravens are better across the board, with two exceptions: offensive line and quarterback. Is that enough to win? Probably not, but I don't think it was a fluke that the Bills won in the playoffs last year. They had more grit than the Ravens, who seemed (to me) to think it would be a cakewalk for them. I think the Bills could have won in the regular season, too, if Brady hadn't gotten cute with that pass to Allen when they had the momentum.

Anyway, that grit/resilience, along with Allen and the O-line, might be enough to win again Sunday.

We also play at home.

Too early, but there’s a decent chance that if we end up dropping this game, we look back on it as the playoffs begin and say “man, that’s the one result in the regular season I’d love to change…”

I saw the “highest completion percentage 55%” part of the post and thought, “ I don’t remember him struggling with completions in the playoffs.

Low and behold I check Allen’s stats and he was 16/22. That’s 72.7%.

Maybe the rest of the stats are legit but I’m not bothering looking them up.

EDIT: Just checked the 2020 playoff game. 23/37. 62.1%. Yeah, for real I’m not looking up any more.

OP, if you're going to start a new thread that could have fit just fine in the existing game week thread, you should really double check your numbers.

I think it could be but it’s doubtful.

WAY too early. Obviously we want this one, but we follow this with Jets, Dolphins, Saints, Patriots, Falcons, Panthers. Even with a loss we have a very clear path to be 6-1 for Kansas City. I would say that is the one that will be must win. This team was always going to peak in the 2nd half either way. With all the rookies up front, Max, the suspensions, and early injury problems. I'm not going to draw a ton of conclusions from this outcome if it doesn't go well. We need to peak at the end. That is what matters at this point.

This right here is what I expect our defensive head coach to be doing to elite QBs to.

We don’t.  We just don’t.  And it’s infuriating.

I think of McD as a great head coach.  But I never consider him or view him as the defensive coach that BB or Spags or The Ravens put out most seasons vs great offenses.  Which we’re going to see a bunch this season.

Even the Bengals said it.  “They ain’t the Ravens.”

You just knew BB was going to slow down everyone.  Embarrass rookies.

McD embarrasses rookies and destroys teams with below average QBs and Olines.

I can list the games vs great offenses at the time he at least limited since let’s say 2022 post Leslie Frazier:

KC twice - in KC.  But they might have been missing Pacheco the 2nd game.  First time was the Von sack pressure forced an INT game.

KC at home 2025.  I’m not sure we can call those offenses at the time elite but still.  Mahomes.

Detroit for 3 quarters in 2024

Baltimore in 2022 - pre Henry.

The finale vs Miami in 2023.

Bo Nix round 1 last year.  I guess.

That’s it.

Choke job no show performances:

Rams 2024

Bengals 2022 and the playoff game

At New England 2023 Mac Jones beat us.
At Jets Zach Wilson beat us.  Twice?
Ravens in 2024 regular season.

Eagles in 2023

He needs to establish himself as a problem for any offense.  That’s been our ultimate downfall.

Spagnola and McDermott have both been head coaches or defensive coordinators for 17 years

McDermott basically outpaces him in every single statistic... Besides having a healthy defense in the playoffs which spagnola has

He also gets the spotting of the refs lol  I've never seen such bad spots in an NFL game like in AFC championship game... So when the Chiefs are not getting the calls they're getting the spots

Spags also just got his ass beat in the super bowl.. give them access to all 32 teams... And let them coach all 32 defenses and see how they fare

I'd be willing to put my entire bank account that Sean McDermott would have a better defense down the line

McDermott absolutely is a better developer, and spagnola scheme is nothing unbeatable... Other coaches also praise McDermott for his scheme

When they lost two players in their secondary gabe Davis looked like Jerry Rice... We're constantly seeing the Chiefs in the playoffs without two starters in the secondary... or a starting linebacker and a starting corner... And two other contributors.. we had seven defensive players on the injury report going in to our AFC championship game.. in a game of inches where the talent margin is very slim that's the difference

I'd like to see spags playoffs down three or four defensive contributors... I guarantee you we will win by a lot more than what they have been beating us by

It’s possible.  Does it feel that way?

Im talking solely against good to great offenses.

The best D minds in the league slow them down or stop them.

I don’t feel or haven’t felt that way about our D vs a great offense in I can’t even tell you.

I mean he just got whooped in the super bowl... His defense couldn't stop a nosebleed

We saw them with seven defensive players on the injury report going into Arrowhead...  and lost our best corner during the game

And we barely lost

When they lost two starters in the secondary Gabe looked like Jerry Rice... Our defense has never made one of their receivers look like Jerry Rice no matter how banged up

2 years ago we were playing them without Bernard and Christian Benford.. Taylor rapp hurt... We had AJ Klein out there

The margins are way too thin to be winning with AJ Klein on the field.. and we lost by a missed kick

And again - this is nothing against McD as a head coach.  He’s proven elite.

But as DC - a lot of elite performances vs garbage offenses.

I forgot one.  He was great in that Miami game where Tre tore his Achilles.  That was a top McD performance.

Maybe what I’m wondering is this a Babbich question.

Fine but that Chiefs offense stunk.
