Florida Bills Fanatic Posted August 25 Posted August 25 Phillips move could be in preparation for a trade that sends Carter or someone else to another team. It could be part of a bigger transaction. I just don't think that Beane is done reworking the defense. I also believe that Phillips will only be around until the two suspensions are over. Beane has some o-line players and M White that have some potential trade value. Injuries around the league last week may give him opportunities to gain some day three draft picks, regardless of what happens to Carter. Quote

They are good but they are not making the improvements needed to get the job done. Holding onto some players to long and bringing back other players that were in their decline. Scared to take a step back and go for for taking two steps in the early future. You mean like drafting 3 defensive linemen and 3 defensive backs? Quote

LLCoolCy Posted August 25 Posted August 25 Feels like the front office sent a note to Joe B that this would be for the Practice Squad. I like many have reservations if Jordan was on the 53 but on the Practice Squad to help mentor the young DL and be a solid break glass in case of emergency call up the move makes sense. 1 Quote
KentuckyBillsFan Posted August 25 Posted August 25 Brandon Beane hit one monumental home run... besides that he has been a middling NFL GM (at best IMO). 1 1 Quote

fergie's ire Posted August 25 Posted August 25 Okay...I have been thinking on this and trying to make sense of it. I suppose a trade is possible, but even then the timing of signing Phillips "later this week" seems odd. I wonder if they could want to use a 3rd IR to return. Say, for example, they've decided to use the pre-season IR to returns on Hairston and Sanders, but someone on the DL, maybe Carter, got dinged up in the last pre-season game. They could keep Carter on the 53, move him to IR to return after the cut down and then sign Phillips. Use Phillips as 5th DL until Ogunjobi and/or Carter return. It's about the only thing that makes sense to me. Quote

That being said, I kind of hate this. Beane went on record about saying how the defense wasn't good enough last season, so why are we trying to bring back the pieces that couldn't get it done the last two seasons? Is Beane gonna turn on the bat signal for AJ Klein or Eli Ankou next? I would rather have the rookies take snaps early on in the season and make mental mistakes than have a guy who knows what to do but can't get it done physically. In some fairness, as evident in the AFC Champ, Phillips was one of the only players to show up and make plays and get it done. We were only a couple plays away in the AFC Champ. Really just one more 3rd down stop. It could be as simple as adding Bosa and having a healthy Benford to get that 5% more. Just because "the defense" couldnt get it done, doesnt mean there's no one worth bringing back. I think the biggest offender was Elam, and we bounced him as soon as we could. We'll see... 🤷♂️ 1 2 Quote
billsfan89 Posted August 25 Posted August 25 (edited) Had the Bills been able to score a TD on that last drive against KC (or kick a field goal and win in OT), the Jordan Phillips play to end the drive and force a field goal on KC's last offensive drive would be considered one of the most clutch defensive plays in Bills playoffs history. I love me some Jordan Phillips so give me his 3 good games before he gets hurt! Edited August 25 by billsfan89 1 1 Quote
Mat68 Posted August 25 Posted August 25 Thats the question. Bottom 53 or veteran PS. Either way Dwayne Carter seems to be on the bubble. Whether he is on the roster or possible trade candidate. Quote

Matt_In_NH Posted August 25 Posted August 25 Speculation is ogunjobi might not make it on Wgr. I guess that makes some sense depending on if there are special terms regarding his suspension. Quote

Agreed, even with the Larry Obi Kinobi suspension, Bills likely aren't rostering 6 active DTs with 5 active DEs. I think Mr. Carter is getting traded 1 Quote

Getting a sack to "hold" the other team to a lead-taking long FG drive with a few minutes left in the game is NOT an all-time play. An all-time clutch play would've been forcing a turnover for a TD (like Taron Johnson). Or even just a sack to force a punt. Milano had a more important sack earlier in that game that knocked KC out of FG range and forced a punt 1 1 1 Quote

What a waste of cap space if we cut him. Not just for this year, but the dead cap for next year as well. 1 Quote
