I think the Bills would have released Shavers early to possibly help him catch on a roster if they were going to release him. The kid deserves that much and the Bills are a classy outfit.

Shavers is staying.

If Beane has to give up a late round pick to dump Samuel’s salary, I think that’s the right move.  Then use the $4m in cap savings to sign vet DB or multiple vet DB’s.

Its a shame , but I have to agree to dump or even IR Samuel and make some room on the 53

That was an honest mistake by beane being hopeful he would be an asset to Josh. But contract was Not good then and worse now

Prefer to keep Moore , but would trade for something this year

Lets give our Shavers the chance he earned

Remember WR Duke Williams?

Duke Williams had the same fan buzz around him after a training camp of big plays. He ended up bouncing around between the practice squad and the 53-man. He eventually landed in the CFL.

Shavers could end up the same way, he is one of those cusp players. He will bounce around between the practice squad and the 53-man. I don't see him permanently part of the 53.

There is no Shavers problem.

Duke was a projection we fans just hung on to too long lol. Good point though :)

Shavers has made plays , albeit in preseason etc. But worked his way for this chance

I love how he has played, but ultimately, this isn't some sort of make or break for the team.  We're talking about a 5 or 6 guy in the WR corps (and the latter only if they keep 6, which is probably unlikely).

I doubt they would trade Samuel to make room for him.

and yet , I wish they could.

Samuel and a 6th for a 7th. Recoup the 6th for Dwayne Carter.

I agree the Bills would need to be giving up the more draft capital to move him

Sorry you don’t remember.  The TD vs Surtain and the TD vs KC in the regular season.  He played a big role in the regular season win vs KC.  He also had 2 other big 3rd down plays that I didn’t mention earlier because i don’t remember specifics.

playmaking ability + taking on an additional 3.1M in dead cap are the main reasons to keep him.  Unavailability due to injury is the only reason to cut him.

I’d rather we keep 6 WRs and won’t have to cut Samuel, Moore or shavers, although I think Beane is probably working the phones trying to trade someone

I don't remember either of those plays to be honest but I could have also been going in and out of consiousness during game day.

I'm sure it doesn't mean much but I'm in favor of keeping Samuel because of the big play ability and the dead cap as you stated but I think Morre could and should be replaced by Shavers if they don't keep 6 but yeah I hope so also and agree he's probably looking to deal one of them.

It's an idea. But with the changes and added importance to the Return game this year and how much they used Codrington as the Core Returner all Pre-Season, I'd be surprised to see them just say "eh, just stick Ty Johnson back there for now". But maybe.

O.J. Howard is the one example everyone goes back to over 3 years ago now. He's the exception, not the rule.

More importantly, it's one thing to throw away 3.1m as they did with Howard. It's another to throw away 8.6m in cutting Samuel, which equates to almost THREE O.J. Howard's.

That's why I said Elijah Moore and his 2.5m in guarantees is a cut possibility. Samuel is trade or he's here. No way they cut someone with THAT much guaranteed money and Dead Cap.

Way.

Not saying it'll happen. But it's absoutely one of the options.

I'd like to see them keep Shavers. But there are five or six very reasonable options, depending on available trades.

I'd like to see them keep Ciarlo too, for that matter. My guess is the odds are against that, unfortunately.

Samuel has a terrible contract and not saying this is the case but it certainly feels like he is playing his leverage to some degree to skip camp, preseason and practice. Keeping him sends a bad signal too. He's also hard to trade bc you basically have to find a willing partner to take on 7+ mill this year for a guy that has done very little as a Bill and missed pretty much all of camp and preseason and has been dealing with some type of nagging injury for the past 3 seasons (23, 24, and this one).

I absolutely hate the prospects that Samuel makes the team and Shaver's doesnt, but there's agood chance that is the case.  I think keeping Samuel is just going to irritate everyone unless 30 catches and 300 yards for a guy that may or may not be 100% at some point is something that makes him invaluable.

I think Moore has been available but i havent seen him make any plays that separate him from other fodder in the preseason.  In fact if you were just looking at guys without knowing how they got to the Bills i think he'd easily be middle of the pack of guys who will be cut.   I know practice matters and we only hear reports but i also think the games are what you are paid for and if dropping balls and losing yds on short passes keeps you on the team Shavers is doing it all wrong.

Id be interested to see what Shavers could do and i do believe that he has the talent to makeplays with the starters but that is still an unknown so i get it.

Based on camp and preseason games, I will be shocked if Shavers doesn't make the 53.

The question is which bum out of Moore, Samuel and Shenault is kept as the #5. Imo, we should roster at least 5 to account for in game injuries.

After what he has put on tape this pre season IMHO it would be foolish to not have him on the 53 this guy is a Bill through and through and has proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that he belongs on this roster and can help this team get where they are headed ..

Make it so number 1 !!!

Where's the statistical proof that Bills' WAGs shave more than other teams' WAGs?

Even if true, is it a problem?  Some would argue that it's more hygienic that way.

I don't think Samuel is going anywhere. If he ever gets healthy, he would be such a great fit for this offense.

Remember how everyone freaked out when Hodgins got claimed by the Giants and had some productivity there? Well, he spent last season on their PS and is currently on a reserves/futures contract in SF and will probably get cut today. These end-of-the-roster guys are not worth this much angst.
