Shavers probably makes it but also probably doesn't dress. He's realistically 3rd outside WR after Palmer and Coleman.  If one of those guys misses a few weeks then he could dress on game day. He's not taking inside reps. He's not a gadget guy like Samuel. He's not taking red zone reps from Coleman and Kincaid. And he's not returning kicks. That leaves gunner which we dont even know if he us any good at.

Nice story but if he actually plays then they are probably not in a good spot with injuries.

He was known for being and elite gunner and punt blocker in college. If that translates at all, and if he is the the 3rd outside WR like you said, then he’s gonna be active.

I’m not sure Shavers can separate from starting NFL cornerbacks. I like him but he looks stiff until he’s in the open field.

Did you not see him SEPARATE from everyone on his 80 yard TD screen pass? He can absolutely FLY!

Not crazy. He probably makes the team and Curtis Samuel will be cut. It would be weird if those 2 things didn’t happen at this point regardless of contracts

Samuel’s contract is a problem. I see Ellijah Moore getting the axe.

I don't start threads much...ever...

But he has to make this team... Right?

And look... Folks can talk about how he has to play ST's and all that, but... I watch an absolute TON of NFL football... The Bills are my favorite team... And I want to see Shavers catching balls from #17... Like...Actually as a part of this Offense... I think we need to see... We need to find out...

Am I crazy?... B-)

I said Shavers was gonna make the 53 back in the early 53 thread. I believe he has proved me right. I think he will be a productive member of this team.

McBeane aren’t cutting Samuel or Moore. That leaves maybe one spot for Shavers. I don’t think the kid could have done any more to prove he belongs on the 53 but he may be a casualty of CB injuries like a previous poster said. He better get in the training room and massage Tre’s “lower extremity injury” day and night to improve his chances of sticking

Well that seals it. Poor kid. Every year there’s a guy that shines in preseason and the entire Board is downright convinced that he’ll make the roster…and then less than a few days later, he’s cut. Shavers is doomed. 😉

On Hard Knocks McD said guys will earn time by their play.  Shavers embodies that philosophy; he has busted his butt and made a lot of good plays in pre-season.  If he gets cut I don’t know how McD faces the team.

Honestly… is there another WR on our roster that would make that catch?

Both Shavers and Coleman have been a bit inconsistent catching the ball but Coleman can absolutely make that catch.

Samuel is healthy now. You can't just PUP or IR healthy players...

Correct. "A player cannot be placed on the PUP list, however, once he has taken the field for a practice or game."

He missed the trip tonight sick. Turns out he's got a new form of foot fungus that they will need to send samples to Switzerland for them to work up a cure. His foot actually fell off during the procedure and they expect a new one to grow in roughly 6-8 weeks.

Wrong.

Joe Marino reported this morning that Samuel is being held out due to spleenal concerns.

He also has some pelvic discomfort.

I didn't know this about Shavers.

What kind of Shavers problem? Is it the beard?, the razor?, the blade?, the shavers themselves? What's the problem?

The problem is Occam's.

Occam's Shaver.

You’re looking at a stat sheet talking and about making big plays….

yes- he made at least 3 big plays that I can remember. Sorry that your stat line doesn’t support that fact.

I used stats because the only memorable catch I remember him making was in that Chiefs playoff game, everything before that to me was forgetable but if you want to keep a player who makes 3 big plays a season everyone is entitled to their opinion plus I was thinking I missed something on Samuel but it doesn't look like it.

Shavers can play special teams and catch passes from #17. He has actually excelled as a gunner on the punt team. There is a path to him making the 53, but imo it requires the Bills keeping 6 WR and Shavers having to play some Special Teams.

Shavers actually looks like he can win in a real game against actual legit corners.

Yes, we as fans tend to hype up similar type guys most years.. but they don’t have the speed & size Shavers has plus the release packages he’s put on tape.

This guy was an Alabama commit out of HS for a reason and maybe just needed some time to put it together.

With the staff/team openly talking about moving Keon around, that would leave Palmer as the only pure outside guy.  Having Shavers as another size, speed outside guy makes a lot of sense.

If in Beane I’m working the phones to see if there’s any interest for Samuel.. I don’t care we have to give him away at this point.   Moore is the better slot backup for Shakir.

Keon

Palmer

Shakir

Moore

Shavers

That group just makes sense. A clear Top 3.  Moore can return punts and kicks, while Shavers can provide ST coverage.

If no trade can be had for Samuel, I’d carry 6 WR’s.. at least until guys come back off PUP/Suspensions and then re-evaluate.

Sorry you don’t remember.  The TD vs Surtain and the TD vs KC in the regular season.  He played a big role in the regular season win vs KC.  He also had 2 other big 3rd down plays that I didn’t mention earlier because i don’t remember specifics.

playmaking ability + taking on an additional 3.1M in dead cap are the main reasons to keep him.  Unavailability due to injury is the only reason to cut him.

I’d rather we keep 6 WRs and won’t have to cut Samuel, Moore or shavers, although I think Beane is probably working the phones trying to trade someone

They have to put him on the 53 and play him.
