Don't we typically do some "courtesy cuts" by this time?  By that, I mean releasing players that they know won't be making the roster giving them a chance to hook up w/ another team in time for the last PS game?

I know we've released/waived a few players but w/ the exception of K Davis (whose signing was injury induced), all or at least most were injury related.

Often times, someone like E Moore or D Jackson would be let go once we think it's unlikely we'll have them on the roster- again, largely a courtesy to them.

Not always. And this year, we have *so* many players dinged up, we can't really afford to do that - as we need to be able to field a team for the last Pre-Season game while also sitting a large percentage of the guys making the 53.

I know it's a business but after everything Josh has done for this franchise I'm appalled that they aren't giving him time to catch on with another team.

Beane does love taking on big dead money hits. This would be his cream dream.

There’s so many meh backups I don’t think the bills front office knows which players to cut. I think the 3rd preseason game will be make or break for some of these guys, especially some guys who haven’t shown anything or have been unavailable - Samuel, SVPG, Hamlin, Dane Jackson…

With near 2 weeks between cut down day and week 1 I don't expect it. Gives players plenty of time to find a time.  If anything it seems to be the time for trades.  If they make any I expect it before they travel to Tampa.

There is a ton of “depth” on this roster that deserves a “courtesy” cut. Sadly, in some cases we don’t have even an adequate replacement.

On offense:  Trubisky, white, Moore, Samuel, Van Denmark

On defense:  Carter, Ogunjobi, Ulofoshio, Andreessen, D Jackson, White, Ingram, Forrest, Herndon.

If these guys were cut no one would notice they were gone except maybe White.  Hairston isn’t ready to start yet.

I think its fine not to cut anyone, and because we've had a weak preseason, (no arguments as McD did the right thing testing our depth) so we need to get one more look at the depth.  I agree its a nice gesture for Beane to cut people early, but if we want a deep team, we need every opportunity.

i was a little surprised we only did one competitive practice vs. 2, and we did it on Friday close to the game.  I expected two, ans bith on thursday of the game was on the weekend.  There really is no excuse for our backups.  We just have to hope these leaders pick the right 53.

Those usually are early pre-season right before or right after game 1 of pre sesson

to the posters who disagree with me, which guys on this list would you miss if they were cut tomorrow?  Which of these guys, beside Tre White, will get significant PT even if they make the team? Maybe Moore if he builds some chemistry with Josh?

Right.  Some people thought Jalen Virgil was a courtesy cut.

Forget about it -- he was actually released with an injury designation.

Where are the posts this year stating that most of the Bills players that will be cut, will end up on another teams 53 man roster? 😂

Don’t you know the legacy of Beane?  They will all be in the NFL longer than anyone signed/drafted by any other GM.

I think most who disagree just think it is a stupid post pre final preseason game.

Let’s cut all of these guys that are going to make the 53 as back-ups and then do what play our starters the entire 4 quarters on Saturday.

Lets look at it.

Yes - brilliant lets cut both back-up QBs one of which will make the 53, 2 WRs one of which most likely makes the 53, and a back-up tackle that will either make the 53 or be trade fodder, but your brilliant plan is to cut them now.

On Defense - let’s cut a young DL that will most likely make the 53 to cover suspensions and the guy that won’t count on the roster while suspended so he becomes a pickup later if injuries hit. Back-up LBs that will play a ton of snaps and STs this weekend, and several DBs including guys that not only will play a ton this weekend, but 1 of whom has a good shot at starting game 1.

Therefore - I disagreed with you because the timing and the names make no sense to cut these guys with a game coming up tomorrow.  It is also stupid as at least 5 of those guys are making the 53 - so why in the heck am I giving them a courteous cut in the middle of the week before the 3rd preseason game.

If all those guys were cut today - yeah I would notice as we would not have enough backup to cover the 4 quarters and I hope and pray we don’t see any of them in the regular season because that means we finally got healthy, but I imagine some of them will have impacts good or bad as back-up on this team.

You clearly missed the point of my post.  My post wasn’t about releasing guys prior to the last pre-season game, but illustrating how lousy a significant piece of the “depth” is.
