Cook always looks that way. That doesn't mean he is or ever has been stoned, but yes, it does look that way.

I'm neutral on cannabis (have and still occasionally imbibe). It wouldn't work for me to go through life in that state constantly, but I know many true stoners that have absolutely excelled throughout their academic and professional careers (finance, law, engineering, etc.). At the end of the day, perform like 2024 James Cook and I really don't give a crap how high you are.

There's research which shows that cannabis use is helpful in managing certain types of pain and also aids as a muscle relaxant. It's also considered generally helpful for those suffering PTSD.

These effects would be beneficial to NFL players.

I agree....Torrence isn't going anywhere.

He and McGovern will get extended, but Edwards will probably be the odd man out.....luckily for the Bills, they have a lot of young O-line talent waiting in the wings if contracts can't be worked out.

Also, O-linemen can be found in the middle and lower rounds of the draft (Edwards entered the league as a 5th rounder) and we all know of Aaron Kromer's ability to identify and develop O-linemen.

Interesting point. Don't know if this has been noticed yet, but if it has I haven't seen it.

Both Spotrac and OvertheCap have the contract total at $46M, not $48M

Also, OvertheCap has the FULLY GUARANTEED money at $15.28M. (Ah, Spotrac agrees.) I'm sure the rest is guaranteed against injury, but this looks like the contract numbers originally released had been plumped up a bit, probably by the agents.

Surprise, surprise!!

This legitimately is a risk they're taking here. IMO if Cook stays healthy it'll look like a good risk. If he gets injured, particularly in the next three years, it will be a contract that bites the Bills.

Cook is young, he'll turn 26 late in September, so this contract goes through his age 30 season. They're likely to keep limiting his snaps, or so I believe anyway. There's a decent chance he stays healthy through his age 26, 27 and 28 seasons. Only a part of that next season four years from now, will be guaranteed, and we don't yet know how much. But he could probably be cut (if it's for performance or financial reasons, not for injury) without any cap problems, before the the third year of the extension, 2028, if he starts regressing or has problems with injuries cropping up.

Don't know if this helps but per PFT (a credible source of contract terms):

1.  Signing bonus: $9 million.

2. 2025 base salary: $1.28 million, fully guaranteed.

3. 2026 option bonus: $7.4 million (see below for guarantee details).

4. 2026 workout bonus: $250,000.

5. 2026 base salary: $2.01 million (see below for guarantee details).

6. 2026 per-game roster bonus: $340,000 total.

7. 2027 workout bonus: $250,000.

8. 2027 base salary: $9.13 million, guaranteed for injury at signing; on the fifth day of the 2026league year, $6.22 million becomes fully guaranteed, with the remaining $2.91 million vesting in on the fifth day of the 2027 league year.

9. 2027 per-game roster bonus: $340,000 total.

10. 2028 workout bonus: $250,000.

11. 2028 base salary: $9.681 million, $1.18 million of which is guaranteed for injury.

12. 2028 per-game roster bonus: $340,000 total.

13. 2029 workout bonus: $250,000.

14. 2029 base salary: $10.41 million.

15. 2029 per-game roster bonus: $340,000 total.

  1. For 2026, $5 million is fully guaranteed at signing. Another $4.41 million is guaranteed for injury; it converts to full guarantee in on February 9, 2026.
  2. The contract includes a $1 million escalator for 2028, if any year from 2025 through 2027 he participates in 45 percent of the offensive snaps and the team makes the playoffs.
  3. The contract also includes a $1 million escalator for 2029, if any two years from 2025 through 2028 he participates in 45 percent of the offensive snaps and the team makes the playoffs in those same two seasons.
  4. The new-money average on the four-year extension is $11.5 million per year, with $15.28 million fully guaranteed at signing. By 2026, the full guarantee increases to $25.91 million. The total injury guarantee is $30 million, with $28.82 million fully guranteed by 2027.
  5. From signing, the contract has a value of $10.254 million per year over five years; Cook was due to make $5.271 million in 2025.

I know, and the measly 18 touchdowns.  Just give the ball to someone else.

Plus 4.9 yards per carry is trash.

YPC I’ll give you, but a lot of those TDs could have been scored by somebody else. In past seasons it was Allen. This most recent season they gave the ball to Cook in the red zone.

Not sure if posted yet, but contract details are out at overthecap.

My estimate was a 4 year extension at $10.5M AAV with effective guarantees into the second added year. I thought up to about $25M would be the limit. I also said that a high salary in year 4 could be used to inflate the total.

Cook got a 4 year extension at $12M AAV. The effective guarantees are $30M. That’s a win for his side. But the AAV of the added seasons through those guaranteed years is only $9.85M AAV. That's counting this season at the $5.6M he was already due. That’s a win for Beane and the Bills IMO. Seems like Cook took security over possible earnings. It was a reasonable trade off IMO.

So I think this deal is in line with my estimations. My preference would have been less guaranteed money, but I don’t have any major complaints. Especially since he took a little less money to get that.

How about the stretch TD on 4th against KC?

True story this chick I was talking to is a huge bills fan.

She was saying ***** like Cook has a bad attitude and hes a baby, we should trade him, he should shut up etc..

I gave her a good LMAO as a response.

She didn't like that and went off on FB about "men" laughing at her blah blah which didn't really make sense given the actual conversation.

Then I was unfriended.  Cook seems to really get people emotional.

Looking at Spotrc seems like this is a deal that will keep Cook locked in this and next season with a heavy penalty if they want to get out after 2026 (11.3 million dead cap on a 13 million dollar cap number) the contract becomes a more palatable out in 2028 when its an 8 million dollar dead cap hit against a 13.5 million dollar cap number and an easy out in 2029 when the dead cap is just 4.7 million.

All in all it's a fair end for both sides and kind of what we thought it was (a 3-4 year commitment). Go Bills.

Mid at best with a bland personality to boot.

Edit and the red flags were there, she seems to thrive on chaos or drama but didn't have the first that made me believe the sex would match the tornado that came with it in day to day

Barring catastrophe he's almost certainly here until at least through 2027, but 2028 is more likely. That is set up to work out well for the Bills. After 2028 he will have one season left on his deal and he will be heading into his age 30 season. He probably will get released at that point or have take a pay cut for that season. If he breaks down earlier it’s not optimal, but the team can make it work.

The Bills need to get 3 good years out of him for the contract to have good value which I think is very possible. After that you get to 2028 where you can rework his deal or let him play out his age 29 season and then figure out the rest on the backend.

I thought it was pretty cool how Jimbo got emotional as he was signing the contract.  I think we as fans often bring a very cold, passionless perspective when discussing players and contracts, without taking the time to appreciate just how much this means to them and their families.  I'm happy for him.

I'll tell you what hasn't changed, a select few fans can't even conceive of a player improving after year one. As if it's never happened in the history of the NFL. I saw some mind boggling takes on here that Elijah Moore, a former draft bust playing for his 3rd team in 5 years, was definitively a better WR than Coleman...

Not that I'm surprised. Some people just can't let their draft takes go. There were fans declaring Josh Allen a bust after year one and some still saying it after year two. Coleman has a lot to prove but anyone writing him off after last year is just being ridiculous, especially after the training camp he just had.

One of the best posts of the offseason.  Nice job sir

3 year 30 mil with 15 guaranteed essentially with escape hatches in 27 and 28.  This is why you sign guys a year early.  That contract next year is not nearly as flexible.

Not sure Bill is correct in saying "severe" agent inflation, re: gtd money.

Essentially the only piece being "double counted", is the prior 2025 cash he was due --- $5.3m.

So $25m of additional guaranteed money.  And as mentioned a couple posts above, Buffalo can get out of the deal "favorably" cap wise in the final year.

He was embarrassed that he didn't get the 15m and is gonna get trolled online.

I'd say that $15m guaranteed is really $25m.

Basically $15m immediately and approx another $10m guarantees if hes on the team 5th league day of 2026.  So VERY good chance, $25m gtd.

Either way, its a great deal for Buffalo and Cook.  Very fair.
