I think the shortened pre-season is part of it, but I also think that the pre-season was already headed towards being what it is now.  The biggest influence was Sean McVay.  When he became Rams coach, he wouldn't play ANY of his starters in pre-season.  The general response by the media, and I think from NFL colleagues as well, was, "Oh sure, you'll keep your guys healthy but you're going to be rusty early in the season which is really going to hurt."  Then the Rams went out and won their first regular season like 56-0 or something....and a trend was launched.

Agreed, The Rams got off to hot starts from 2017-2021 despite not playing starters in the pre-season. So prior to the 3 game pre-season that trend of starters not playing had already been happening. Although I think with how wonky week 1-2 has been in recent seasons teams are rethinking that. Even the Rams the last three seasons have gotten off to slow starts. So I think teams realizing that the reduced off-season program are looking to get some work for starters in the pre-season so as not to come out soft to start the season.

Why is Chris Brown kneeling?

Very funny, but a lot of people don’t realize Palazzolo is nearly six feet tall.

Putting the Bills/Bears game on Sunday night at 8pm in pre season is criminal

America's team. Josh is on the verge of A-list stardom. He's a brand that's transcending football.

I think the biggest reason teams are rethinking the issue is the change in practice rules in the last CBA.

Commanders starting RB is probably gonna be a rookie Jacory Croskey-Merritt.  7th round pick from Arizona.  He’s balled out in camp and they are ready to move off of Brian Robinson, who was a high draft pick.
