Did you read my post?  My point was whether the Bills have him at 1 tech or 3 tech.    There arent a lot of 6'7 1 techs walking around.   Thats because playing 1 tech requires good leverage.   Guys who are 6'7 with bad backs arent usually the best benders, which is something good leverage requires.   Yes, defensive tackle requires players to be "big and heavy" I dont expect Walker to be 6'7 185, but if he is going to play 3 tech he should consider losing some weight in his belly.  How do you think the pars defect happened?

How do the Bills best maximize his athletic ability and make sure he stays available?

I know this wasn't addressed to me, but I understand where you're coming from.  That being said, one of the best DT tandems I could remember in recent times, was the Jag DUO of Stroud and Henderson, and I believe Henderson was 6'7" and Stroud was 6'6".  Also there's Calais Campbell, who I believe is like 6'8".  All three are huge powerful men, who wreaked havoc on olines.

Random observations today's practice:

- Beautiful mercifully cloudy and cool morning.  Quite the contrast from the scorching heat last practice.  Slight drizzle that stopped and rain never came (didn't need the zubaz poncho my wife randomly bought recently)
- Potential future WR1 Gosnell on JUGS before practice - didn't drop one
-Josh walks out of clubhouse with Buechele and White - Trubisky nowhere to be seen - maybe his fate is sealed :)
- Shenault might have the thickest lower body of any receiver I've ever seen
- Tre with the exercise band around his knees again when he came out - including even when he was playing D on the first walk thrus plays before stretching
- During STs Cook with the TEs again with Boras firing passes at them

- WRS going against air at goal line.  Sadly no WR-DB 1-1 today - not sure if wet field had something to do with it
- 7-7 end zone 1st team
   - Keon tough contested catch back corner with db draped all over him
   - Josh fires a missle bounces off receiver rapp might have got a piece
   - Josh threads td to Davidson at goal line

- 11-11 at 35 yardline 1st team
   - Cook run up the middle 3 yds
   - Quick out Gilliam 5 yds
   - Davis stuff middle no where to go
   - Keon wide open TD left side - someone messed up, Damar closest and looking around at teammates after
   - Cook up middle short gain
   - D whistle sack multiple players in backfield
   - Davis nice cut back middle for long gain maybe td even live action
   - Gore stuffed rt side short gain
- notable 2nd/3rd team reps
   - Wilkerson nice diving sideline catch - White held ground big pressure from Hoecht
   - Buff Joe bursts into gap and thumps Evans hard tfl

- Haven't really focused on linemen but can confirm even unfocused Walker is huge

- Offense and Defense separate walk thru / installation on opposite sides of field.  One interesting thing was Williams took some reps even though he wasn't dressed - shouting and communicating as if he were playing

- 11-11 rz  start at 20,  1st team
   - Cook up mid short gain
   - Cook pitch left stymied by Epenesa
   - Davis middle run stuffed
   - Josh scramble -  Kincaid didn't turn fast enough ball bounced off pads
  - Next set 1st team reps:

   - Coverage sack
   - Dump Shakir 5 yds - scuffle after play Rapp threw a punch at Wilkerson
-  5 yd line Shakir sneaks off right side easy td

   - 3rd set 1st team reps
   - Cook middle short gain
   - Cook nice bounce out from clogged middle and rbeats D to right pylon - flag thrown not sure if hold
   - From 5 yd line Josh throws up for Keon corner ez Tre called for PI and talked to ref for a bit after
   - From 5 yd line Josh finds Wilkerson middle of field at goal line for td

   -  Next set 1st team - from 5 yd line
   -  Cook short gain middle

   - Hawes wide open td crossing to left pylon
  - Nice dump by Josh under pressure to Kincaid left side for TD

- Notable reps 2nd/3rd team
   - Gosnell td from Buechele
   - Strong nice pbu in ez on Davidson
   -  Buechele patient in pocket went thru reads eventually found found Cain back ez
   - Gore td right side from Buechele

- Didn't notice anything particularly notable either Trubisky or White this practice

- While punt teams on field,, Oliver, Epenesa and Larry O trading dance moves while Jackson stood there with them not participating in the dance portion.  Jackson has freakish long arms and legs

- Half speed 11-11 for a while to end practice

- Bishop on sideline in street clothes spent a lot of time with Rapp - seemed to be talking with him every time I noticed them.  Lines up with reports they worked together all offseason - they seem pretty tight

- He may fade into obscurity when everone comes back, but for a complete unknown, Wilkerson really was noticeable in a good way last two practices

- Lot more runs this practice.  Without full contact hard to really guage how well a lot of them would have fared live action

- This practice was much more low energy and laid back (borderline boring) compared to Tues.  Assume it was combination of wet field affecting what they did, break after recent hard practices in the heat,, and stadium practice tmrw.

Anyone know of any plans to bring in a backup kicker ?

These pelvis issues can linger

Every year I bring up the need for a camp placekicker and punter to come to camp.

The competition and the insurance is well worth it IMO.

I always get shouted down, but this is the exact reason to have one of each.

Days have gone by without any real special team plays because of this.  The same would happen it the punter pulled a muscle.

Also, by bringing in camp legs it solidifies some relationships IN CASE your starters get injured during the season.

Guys like Cain and Harris are long shots to even make the PS.  They don't need to be in camp but an extra placekicker and punter do.

Years ago I was having serious health issues in that region. Couldn't find a cure, I actually went to a women's pelvic health clinic. I was the only dude in the place!

I'm guessing you didn't see Christian Wilkins there.

That’s called good coverage if you are on the Chiefs.

The guy had a stress fracture in his back last season.  He is 6'7, he should be at least 330 pounds.  Just needs to gain more muscle.  D Lineman don't need to be trim.  Big and heavy is what DT's need to be.

Agreed- He just needs to do squats and get stronger in the lower body

That could almost be considered entrapment. Just sayin’

That's just Christian Wilkins in 20 years

I really have not watched much of Deone Walker's game.  I reread your previous post.  My question when we drafted this guy is why can't we bring in guys who have a little better height/weight distribution?  If we are discussing 1 tech vs 3 tech, why do we have such trouble finding guys who are built to play 1 tech.  Thick stout guys with big lower bodies?  The quintissential 1 tech of the modern era was Vince Wilfork.  Wasn't he like 6'3 and 325?   That would seem to be a perfect 1 tech.

The Bills love these real tall guys on both lines.  And I think its a disadvantage.  Spencer Brown-way too tall.  Greg Rousseau-way too tall.  AJ Epenesa-too tall.  Wasn't Jason Peters 6'4?  I would not want any lineman over 6'5 period.  And preferably a little shorter.  Remember Jim Ritcher from years back?  He was maybe 6'1 I believe and was a hell of a guard.

If Walker does not play 1 tech, who else do we have other than Daquan Jones?

There you go.  Squats are not difficult as long as you know how to do them, and don't mess up your knees going down.

Seems like he's been pretty clearly the best and most consistent pass catcher in camp. That rep is exactly what you want to see from his skillset. No he doesn't get yards of separation but he's still able to use his strength to create leverage and then makes a strong catch for the TD. It appears the work he put in this offseason is paying off.

Other than Shakir??
