Can you give examples of “real Terry guys?”

God-fearing, articulate, leadership types.  Sean McDermott.  Dawson Knox.  Kyle Williams.  Josh Allen.  Micah Hyde.  Tre White.  Lorenzo Alexander.

Wonder who that player could be.

Kevyn Adams. 😇

I wonder if TP wanted Rosen, and Kim laid down the law, and said "Allen". 🤔

The Kevyn Adams answer, maybe a bit snarky, is funny. I don’t agree with it potentially being Josh. That story is too full and unified. I have to believe a franchise QB decision must be unanimous and include the owner’s complete buy-in.

I do remember hearing that Terry wanted Mahomes badly the year prior. I also recall Terry acknowledging that he initially had some doubts about Josh. So yes, my guess would be Josh.

You know, after I posted that I thought it was Oliver, I got to thinking… there’s not a home run draft pick Beane has hit on - besides Allen - that’s worthy of Terry’s bragging. That said, I’d still be surprised if it was Josh as that’s the one position everyone should be united on.

Yeah, I am with you.... I don't see Oliver's play at that pick making TP roll over and say may bad... I am gonna guess Cook or Bernard or Benford.

Benford was a 6th round pick. There is zero chance Pegula even knew Benford existed.

My guess is Cook as well.

My guess is the 17 hour meeting before the draft where they watched every single snap Josh Allen ever took.

Taylor Hall.

No, pretty sure Terry was all in for Allen

He required a 17 hour meeting with just Terry, McD, and himself dedicated to every snap Josh Allen ever took.

That is about as heavy of a lift a GM could have for a pick. That meeting doesn't happen if everybody is "all in" on the pick.

I dont disagree... I just picked the 3 major recent hits...

Beane has been pretty defensive lately.  First blowing up a standard question about his handling of the wr situation and now claiming that he was right and his boss was wrong.   Textbook example of what you should not be doing.

I feel like I remember one of the embedded videos during that draft where Pegula actually asked Beane "can we move up enough to get Allen?" or something along those lines.

All the evidence seems to suggest Allen was their pick....

I thought his handling of the WR train was a little over the top.....but I completely agree with his position which is based on actual facts and logic rather than guys on the radio who want to play with their WR train toy because it sounds cool.   I think Beane is very good at his job, anytime your work is on public display people will have issues and things get blown out of proportion.

Beane's seat might be hotter than we realize. While he has drafted well, it has not been exceptional, and the last few free agent classes have been abysmal.

I have no idea how you arrived at that conclusion from the interview. He's contracted through 2027.

Maybe if they miss the playoffs the next season or two I'd agree with you.

"The last few free agent classes have been abysmal" is hyperbole too.

I wonder how much gate keeping holds back the evolution of the game.  I get genetics matter for on the field performance so having familial connections is logical. But off the field should seemingly be more open and yet feels just as insular. Barrier to entry is tricky cause it takes years to learn the nuances and the relationship of coaches would get that for free. As football becomes more accessible from video review online I’m excited to see what new approaches people previously unable to learn can bring.

Yeah it’s a joke. I remember when MIKE MULARKEY got a 2nd HCing opportunity with the Titans. If it isn’t familial, it’s certainly a good ‘ol’ boy network.

Beane makes a fraction of what we waste on free agents. Since 2022 we have spend over $100M on external contacts. The highlights are Mack Hollins & Connor McGovern. We need more bang of the buck.

If anything, looks like Beane is comfortable taking a jab here and there to his boss. Imagine someone in Dallas' front office says publicly that Jerry did not like someone and we took him anyway and we are right; plus Jerry tried to take credit for that. Ask Jimmy Johnson!

We don't know the inner works among Pegula, Beane and McDermott. What we do know from public info Whaley and some tidbits Beane gave is that Terry seems willing to give the final say to the people he hired to make those decisions, NOT as some sounding board to allow himself to make the decisions. There are some well documented accounts on Pegula's fascination with Mahomes. I'd guess there are other stories of who Terry liked but maybe not actually panned out in NFL (I'd think if there are 2 or 3 more cases of Mahomes kind of disagreements between Terry and the front office, and Terry is correct, we'd see some changes in the front office already). Kim Pegula, before her medical issue, openly said they (Pegulas) got good people running OBD, I think she speaks for Terry as well.
