Ned Flanders Posted July 25 Posted July 25 (edited) Who's Elam Fairing? Whoever he is, I'm glad he's doing well in Dallas Edited July 25 by Ned Flanders 1 Quote

Any first round pick who fails to become a starter by their second year is a colossal bust. This dude’s got three years behind him and he’s barely backup material, let alone starting. That is absolutely a colossal bust. Only about half of first round picks become top quality NFL starters, and some of those don't blossom into top players for several years. "Colossal" implies something that's really spectacular or rare. A late first round pick who doesn't become a full-time starter on his original team is neither. A top five pick who fails to become a Pro Bowl quality starter on his original team might be a considered a "colossal bust". Mike Williams, OT, taken at #4 by the Bills in 2002, was a "colossal bust" because he never developed into a quality starter -- for the Bills or for any other team. Furthermore, Elam's career isn't over yet. If he fits in better in the Cowboys' defense, he may very well blossom -- just as Jerry Hughes did when he came to Buffalo. 1 2 1 Quote

It means huge. 2. The Pro Bowl is a popularity contest and an absolute joke that has nothing to do with on-field talent. 3. Elam is a bust and it’s not debatable. 1 Quote
Gunsgoodtime Posted July 25 Posted July 25 He had his great moments here for sure, sadly one of his best was signing with the Cowboys Quote
bigK14094 Posted July 25 Posted July 25 I learned in industry, a dog in one setting can be a star in another. Perhaps he just needed a fresh start. Maybe the McD culture didn't mesh w his worldview. Such things happen. I wish him well. (not the 'boys, but Elam) Quote
Bills14221 Posted July 25 Posted July 25 Did you watch him play in the AFC Championship Game? In the biggest moment of his career he was awful and a large part of why we ended up losing that game. Once Benford went out they targeted him big time. Good luck to him but he had more than enough chances here, it just didn't work out. 5 Quote

But I believe hes the only Bills CB ever to intercept Mahommes once in the regular season and intercept the Dolphins in the playoffs But that wasn't good enough for McDermott because Elam didn't fit in with McDermotts soft zone cerebral unathletic scheme You didn't see him play and stink up the place? You'll do anything to take a shot at McDermott. 3 minutes ago, Bills14221 said: Did you watch him play in the AFC Championship Game? I won’t declare anyone or anything a bust until I see the end of the movie. Stranger things have happened, and a fresh start might be what he needs to get on the right track. . That doesn’t mean he can’t do well in Dallas though Quote
Kenosha2Buffalo Posted July 26 Posted July 26 Head scratching draft pick, maybe he shines in Dallas. Training camp is against Dak and not #17 though. Quote
paulmm3 Posted July 26 Posted July 26 I just don't see a path for Elam becoming even an average NFL starter. Other than athleticism he doesn't do anything well. Quote

Jerry Hughes was so bad they took Kelvin Shepard for him and he turned into a stud here. I honestly think Elam still can do well. With what Dallas has gotten out of lesser talent at CB, I don’t know if he could have found a better place. I won’t be shocked to see him really take off. Quote

The thing is though he is playing in another zone first scheme with eberflus. that is the thing I never see anyone mention. I imagine they play man also like everyone but I could have sworn eberflus was a pretty heavy zone guy. so if that is what Elam struggles with how is he going to improve there? The logical answer is Dallas should have an excellent pass rush but time will tell. Quote

Looks like he was holding him the whole way down the field, which was one of the constant issues noted about Elam. Not trying to rag on the guy, I hope he does well, I just wouldn't expect it. Fun celebration I guess though. 1 Quote
