You can have no interest in developing a QB, no dispute there. But when you have a superstar QB, the development comes from mentoring and guidance from the guy above him as much as it does coaching staff. The point isn’t about drafting a guy to replace or “become the next Josh” but rather an insurance policy incase something happens because if it does this team isn’t going to win much.

The point isn’t every year but once in a while to take a flier on a guy you have as that insurance or are able to exchange for future draft pick/s to get another shot at a Milano, Taron, Shakir or Benford…

Mitch was dreadful in Pittsburgh, a team that is very friendly for a QB. They moved on to Kenny Pickett because he wasn’t doing enough, which even then had to be pretty minimal. If you believe Mitch can be successful at leading us to multiple wins if Josh is unavailable, more power to you. I was in that camp prior to his Pittsburgh 2 year deal. Not anymore. There’s better options out there. Grooming a backup versus a guy who’s played a ton of football and done so very averagely since his Sophomore year seems like a smarter option. Especially when you revert it back to your point about rather having a chance at more late round gems; you could get something for him.

Every player on the Bills’ roster could go down for the season and this team would still have a shot at the Super Bowl—except one: Josh Allen.

Mitch Trubisky is on the roster for one reason: to keep the team afloat if Allen misses a few games. His job is to win half of them, nothing more.

That’s why spending a high draft pick on a quarterback makes no sense. No rookie or developmental QB is going to step in and win more games than Mitch—or any other free-agent backup—if Allen goes down. And they certainly won’t carry the team through the playoffs.

The smart play is to invest those valuable draft picks in depth everywhere else: offensive line, secondary, receivers, defensive front. Build the best possible roster around Allen. Because if he’s on the field, the Bills can beat anybody.

Jets cut 3rd rounder Malachi Corley…picked 30 picks before Dwayne Carter. He was always going to struggle to learn to be an NFL WR but there is talent there.

I think with the offensive line the Bills have built, the team could easily go .500 or better if Josh were to miss an extended stretch of games.  The floor is fairly high when you have a deep, talented o-line.

Perhaps, but let's hope we don't have to find out.

I’m looking at Pooh Paul and Chad Muma at LB from the Bills. Bills did work on both guys pretty extensively and Muma is from Wyoming so connection possibility. I’m still not sold on Thompson remaining on active roster

This guy fell off a cliff.  He was never good but at least used to provide solid depth.  Not he's been cut...what 4 times in the last 2 years?

His stint with the Bills was bizarre
