nucci Posted July 24 Posted July 24 I remember watching ESPN when it started. It was originally only on weekends and evenings. Sports Center was great. Sad how bad it has become. 1 2 Quote

Redzone is a Sunday only thing that really can’t get screwed up as it has one purpose. You think ESPN can't mess it up? Look what they did to sport center, and imagine someone coming in with a sob story about one of the players every 5 minutes. One purpose for us, maybe not ESPN. I hope you are correct Quote

When I first got the RZ a few years ago, it literally took me an entire half to get used to the format. It seemed so frenetic. Once I got into the rhythm, I fell in love with it. Nothing like the octobox for 8 1pm kickoffs. I think Scott is excellent. I hope the new deal doesn't screw it up. Quote
BuffaloBillsGospel2014 Posted July 24 Posted July 24 NFL selling everything to the highest bidder now. If you don’t have like 8 streaming services you won’t be able to watch games now we got to hear Stephen A rants 24-7. I’ve already stopped watching NFL on Xmas due to not wanting to pay for Netflix, I also don’t watch the Peacock games either. NFL making this easy for me! Quote
agilen Posted July 25 Posted July 25 There appears to be a twist here - the NFL may be taking a stake in ESPN: https://www.cnbc.com/2025/07/24/nfl-media-espn-equity-ownership-deal.html Quote

ChronicAndKnuckles Posted July 26 Posted July 26 The NFL network used to be gold. I loved “a football life“ among other greatly produced documentaries. The top 10s were fun & informative as well. I’ve always been more of a historical documentary type of person anyway so I’ve since moved to YouTube especially for the more deep cuts. This is the age of content so there is plenty of other stuff to watch if you don’t like this move. I’m sure the NFL sees it the same way knowing a tv station no longer has the impact it used to.. 1 Quote

I hated, the fakery of it. The Media operation, is just another propaganda outlet. Just my opinion. South Park's parodies on Disney with Mickey Mouse are awesome AND spot on. Disney has gone down the tubes. 1 Quote

They’ve got him anywhere and everywhere, which I get. He has a magnetic and engaging personality to the younger crowd. The fact they had him presenting the MLB Home Run derby was weird though, a little too much Pat imo. 1 Quote

What killed Sports Center was that if you really wanted to watch highlights in the 1990's or into the 2000's you couldn't find those highlights anywhere else but aggregated on SportsCenter. Now if you want to see highlights you can go to 30 different sites and get a bunch of different versions of highlights and punditry. Sports Center was never really known for it's hard hitting punditry. It was always a Whittman Sampler of Sports when that was the only place you could get it. 1 Quote
