For the record a reporter asked my same question to McDermott and he really never answered it. Its not that big a deal but it will be interesting how many reps the rookies and second year reps get over teh PED cheats knowing they need the young guys to play early in the season.

I suspect that it wasn’t answered because it would be absolutely counterproductive to not have them taking snaps, and yes we need the rookies and 2nd year picks to perform, we need that every year,

Last year the offense looked better than the defense on the first day

Which is why the defense basically ended up sucking last year.

Well it’s not the reason but my point is that if the offense looks better than the defense early on in camp, chances are your defense isn’t going to be very good.

Offense tends to get better as camp goes on. So I’m happy that the defense is looking good to start.

Harrison did play with the ones,

It was reported White played about 55% of snaps, and Max played 45%.  They aren’t going to gift the job to Max.  He has to earn playing time

When were those Keon highlights from? He wasn’t wearing the guardian cap today and some of those highlights were at Fisher. I think those are from last year.

My assumption is OTA's and other offseason programs they draw from - My friend is one of the producers on Hard Knocks, so I know they have in the past come in earlier points in the offseason for the purpose of shooting stuff they can use in promotional content prior to their full time shoot schedule.  But, Bills also shoot Embedded, so could also be footage Bills already had and shared for their trailer.

A. I did not realize that the fate of the entire season could be foretold on day 1 of camp.

B. The offense is lead by the MVP of the league and the Defense is loaded with new players and rookies, I think it is safe to say they may be starting at a disadvantage.

I don’t think 10-11 is realistic for James Cook, only Beane.

Bills offered Cook 12.5 million and he didn’t want it. He has the same agent as his brother did and it’s also the same agent that the rookie in Cincy has that is holding out from what I heard.

So he is getting bad advice from his agent it seems to me. Sounds like every guy that has him as an agent it takes forever to get their deals done.

Bills won’t pay him over 12.5 most likely, so if Cook wants paid from the Bills he will have to come down from his 15 milly wants. I guess maybe if he has another good year he may be able to squeeze 13 from them but I wouldn’t think he could get anymore than that. We shall see. He may end up not having as good of a year and end up hurting himself pay wise.

Im not foretelling anything on the day 1 of camp.

Apparently you have never heard MOST football coaches say that the defense should always be ahead of the offense at the beginning of camp because usually if the offense is ahead then your defense ends up not being good.

Which is what usually ends up happening. Hopefully you learned something today.

Would've liked to see Kepn come out and make some plays. Benford is obviously a tough matchup for anyone so hopefully he gets going.

Pretty sure that will happen on some days while also not happening on some days

While its way too early to know anything today, the thing I love about this staff is that nothing is given.  Everything is earned even with like high draft picks like Elam (who sat behind Benford despite the 1st round pick) or Bishop (who was a backup despite the high pick and expectations).

So yeah I agree with you that if Keon struggles throughout camp and preseason to establish his right to and readiness to start now, then yeah, this is certainly a combo we could see a lot of regarding Palmer, Moore, and Shakir (assuming Moore can establish himself once the pads go on, easy to look good in shorts when you are fast).

One thing I will add, is that this is not the time of camp where a player like Keon shines, but it is a time where a player like Moore shines.  Fast guys always excel in shorts and physical guys not as much before pads go on.  So people need to take it with a grain of salt right now when Moore does something in shorts and Keon isn't doing as much when things are less physical.

Good point about playing in shorts versus playing in pads.  You just don't hear much anymore about NFL training camp practices being ultra physical.  Yes they will do some hitting once the pads go on.  But guys aren't beating the tar out of their teammates too often anymore.  (Joint practices between two different teams will get more physical.)  They have to keep the friendly fire stuff to a minimum.  If it was all on violence, Taylor Rapp would be injured, and take out a few offensive players in the process.  The Oklahoma drill is certainly a thing of the past.

Hard to believe when my kid played pee wee football growing up in the suburbs of Atlanta in the mid 2000's, they were doing the Oklahoma drill at the end of a lot of practices when the kids were 6 and 7.  I kid you not.  And the parents were all gathered round screaming and cheering their kids on like they were gladiators.

But lets hope all our receivers look good this year.  Palmer Moore Shakir and Samuel are all fast.  And Coleman can be the physical guy.  He just needs to find his game.  Fingers crossed.

One of the catches in the video is for sure from his rookie training camp. I remember the hype that came with it. I’m pretty sure the rest are too. He hasn’t worn the guardian cap in OTAs this year and the offense wore blue.

There hasn’t been much video of Keon this offseason. Just some reports he was beating DBs in OTAs and the basketball video. The first real look at him going into his second year was today and it wasn’t great.

Remember when people were worried that Frank Gore Jr was going to get pouched and destroy us last year?

We were worried he was going to turn into some kind of mutant giant marsupial?

No I don't remember that at all. This is why I shouldn't drink rum (among many other reasons)

First off, no offense, but you are coming across as if you seem pretty vested in just selling the negative take away you have from day 1 here. As far as the trailer goes, doesn't really matter when they happened, they are clips of him making some impressive plays was the takeaway.  So its ok if people want to see that as a positive and have optimism we can hopefully see more of that kind of stuff from him as camp goes on.   And he's been in the whole offseason program, and the reports about him have been positive all off season.  So today isn't the "first real look" at him this offseason just because it was your first real look at him.

And like I said up thread, guys who have a physical game are not the type of player that shines in shorts.  This isn't the time where Keon is always going to pop because a lot of his best traits come with being physical.  Just like its silly to over value some speedy guy looking good in shorts, its the time they should shine.

Not to mention its day 1 of camp and guys will have good and bad days throughout camp.

The ones listed weren't sustained during practice, they were injuries that kept guys off the field for the first day. None of them sounded like anything too serious.

This is new information to me. Where did you get it from...a credible source? I've been wondering about the Bills' offer through this entire drama. If Cook's turning down 12.5M, then shame on him.
