Avisan Posted July 15 Posted July 15 To those wondering where else you should spend the money instead: Trenches. Beef the trenches. Invest in the trenches until you find a QB. The cost of two high-end skill position players is enough to put together an entire top-tier O-line. When you do finally land a QB, you put them into a position with good protection and a strong run game to lean on while they get their feet wet in the NFL. 2 1 Quote

I don't know about never, but yeah, it's a bit ass-backwards. Yet, if you've got a really good receiver, but not a QB, shouldn't you do your best to keep the receiver in hopes you get a good QB one of these years? They're in a really tough situation. Thank heavens for Josh. 1 Quote

In the case of Wilson, he was entering his fourth year in the NFL and the Jets could have picked up his 5th year option. Which means they have added two effective years to how long he will be a Jet. I think we all agree that the Jets do not have that franchise QB right now. If they pick one high in the draft in the next two years, only two years remain on Wilson's contract. Take the example of Ben Roethlisberger - when the Steelers picked him, the team was loaded with talent and he was able to excel and win a SB very early in his career. This move for the Jets makes sense if they eventually land their QB in the next draft. All that to say that they should have waited till next offseason to extend Wilson. 1 Quote
machine gun kelly Posted July 15 Posted July 15 Without a franchise QB, that was a high price to pay. If he was playing for Burrow, Lamar, JA, or Mahomes, I’d understand completely as he is a difference maker, but to Jags is foolish. 1 Quote

Jets just lit a whole ton of money on fire So you would purpose trying to draft the franchise QB then waste a 1st round pick on a #1 WR rental so you have a proven guy? Sounds good, what could go wrong? Quote
eball Posted July 15 Posted July 15 Justin Jefferson has proven that if you’re an elite WR you can still put up the numbers without a star QB. The Jets HAD to pay Wilson; he’s that good. I’ll predict another 1K season for him this year even if he has a RB throwing him the ball. And with that said… Just End The Season Quote

Gregg Posted July 15 Posted July 15 They still have to sign Sauce, but Wilson was someone they had to keep. I wish he was in Bills blue. Josh and Wilson would be a lethal combination. 1 Quote

The Jets have invested a lot in their offensive line. They just haven't gotten very good return on investment though the line was pretty decent during the back end of the last season. Quote

Wilson on a good team with a good quarterback would be F'n bonkers. No way EVER should talent be punished at contract time because those around him are bad. Kid, you earned it. Let's hope the team does right be you under center...eventually. Edited July 15 by dollars 2 donuts 1 Quote

We don't want the Jets to do right by him under center. I hope he continues to play with scrubs or washed-up QBs. He can get his 1000-yard seasons along with many losses during the year. 1 1 Quote

At their very best I could see every team behind us going somewhere between 9-8 and 7-10...at their VERY BEST, to be clear. It really could be another year of locking up the division early. 1 Quote
PoundingDog Posted July 15 Posted July 15 (edited) I don't see a problem. Who is the Jets going to pay? Remember Eric Moulds of the Bills in the early 2000s. Getting paid, going thru your prime and getting wash out of the league after that is the unfortunate truth for a guy like Wilson. At least he's getting paid. For a team like the Chiefs or Bills, there is no such luxury. Chiefs had to trade Hill and if Wilson were on the Bills team putting up monster numbers, the Bills would have to trade him too. For those who say the Bengals paid their receivers, look at where they are now in terms of overall competitive wise. Another example is Miami ... Edited July 15 by PoundingDog Quote
