Why? They can have a horrible year and be in line to draft Arch Manning ..

that would actually be an amazing result.

if you are going to tank for a QB, this is the year to do it, with the strength of next years QB draft class.

timing is everything

Kirk Cousins just started salivating...

According to Spotrac, he's made $196 million in his career.

The 'laugh' reaction was for the Cousins observation.

So, what's next for Carr?  RuPaul's Drag Race? 🤔

David Carr was a bust. Did they think Derek and his large hateable forehead would be any different?

David Carr was a bust largely because Houston figured an offensive line was more a guideline than a requirement. He had the confidence and the poise pounded out of him.

That team failed him.

As important as John Brown and Beasley were when they were brought in to help josh in year 2.  They also replaced Groy/Bodine with Morse, Ducasse with Spain, and Mills with Ford.  They also added depth with Feliciano, Nsekhe and Spencer long.  They definitely whiffed on moving on from Teller, but they did use those picks to help acquire Diggs, and added Bass in the 6th.

Going to an expansion franchise is insanely hard to do as a rookie QB and David Carr also had an issue where the expansion draft rules weren't that good for the Texans which meant that getting the franchise off to a hot start like the Jags and Panthers was not gonna happen (I think the other owners basically didn't want to be too favorable for expansion teams so they defacto punished the Texans and returning Browns). I would love to have seen Derrick Carr with the Texans team that Matt Schuab had. Schuab had a lot better O-line and a good complement of weapons and a defense that improved somewhat. Carr was just given Andre Johnson and not much else.

This is why Saleh is too dumb to ever get another HC shot:

"At the start of the 2023 offseason, the Jets didn’t actually believe acquiring Aaron Rodgers was realistic. Getting Derek Carr, however, was — especially after the Raiders released him a month before free agency. The Jets visited with Carr in Florham Park and a group that included head coach Robert Saleh took him out to dinner, during which they told Carr they felt he could make it to the Hall of Fame if he came to New York. They had visions of Carr leading the Jets back to the playoffs while also mentoring Wilson behind the scenes."

I just don't think he's HC material tbh.  I feel like coaching is a mixed bag of - X's and O's, gamecalling, and leadership.  Seeing a sirianni win a super bowl to me indicates that leadership certainly has different types for different teams, but i never got the vibe that Saleh was a particularly good leader.

The clueless look on his face when things didn't go right extended to the media, and he couldn't handle the ownership and management meddling very well.  Just a football coach, which to me seems like a lifetime coordinator.

The argument I always make when the team "sets up a QB to fail" I always point to that 2018 Bills team.  Drake Maye last year is now the 2nd best example.  If you've got it you got it imo.  A team can ruin a middle of the road NFL starter though.

Derek Carr has shown some serious flashes of talent...

Remember early last season when the Saints came out and dropped 45+ points on the first 2 opponents? Now one was Carolina but the other was Dallas, in Dalls, and they won 44-19. Carr's stats in those games weren't as flashy as you would think given the scores, but he played some good ball in New Orleans and also obviously for the Raiders at times.

Injuries did him in. It seemed like he was always getting hurt, the trying to play through injuries, and it cost him in terms of consistency.
