He’s worth bringing in to compete for WR 4 or 5. He’s a great blocker, known vertical threat and has rapport with Josh. I hate how many catchable balls he dropped but he’s not going to be asked to be the guy anymore. He’ll be behind Shakir for sure and most likely Coleman, Palmer and Moore as well. Samuel is whatever, gadget guy so why not if he’s cheap, which he will be. Better than MVS last year

If it's a vet minimum training camp/pre-season deal to compete at WR with the idea that he can take the Mack Hollins role then I really don't see why the Bills wouldn't kick the tires so to speak? BUT is he a willing and capable ST player? Hollins was an ST ace and a very good blocker with some limited "pop" as a WR. Gabe is roughly as good a blocker and a better WR but if Gabe can't at least be a capable ST player (doesn't need to be an "ace" just a contributor) then it is hard to see him being able to make the roster just as a WR 4/5 when there's a crowded field there.

New England will probably pick him up, or KC

Josh also has a great rapport with guys covering Gabe.  If I were him I'd rather have a reduced role somewhere else than going back to your old team in a lesser role.  Pittsburgh makes a lot of sense.  Giants make a lot of sense if he wants to reconnect with Daboll.

McDermott loves him too.  I don't think they'd have signed Moore if they knew Gabe was going to be released.  They still might sign Gabe though.

I agree re. Moore. I got told by someone who was at that point still in the organisation Beane was heartbroken to let Gabe go and they suspected others had talked him out of paying him.

Giants do make a lot of sense but I also don’t think Gabe is a WR3 or better on any team. Why not be the Hollins of this year while winning a SB. Hope he can play special teams though that’ll be the clincher.

The timing of this release makes it sound a bit mutual, no?

After drafting Hunter, how does he see the field?

Or just a pre June 1 decision that was made easier bc they drafted Hunter.

Problem is there is no consistency with Gabe. The big games were great, but if he’s a no show in other games what’s the point? The negative outweighs the positive. The dropped balls, miscommunications and disappearing acts all add up.

There’s no consistency with a lot of average WRs. If they were consistently great, they would be great.

Josh Palmer last year had 2 or fewer catches in 9 of his 15 games.

I’m just not sure who is the model of consistency you think we have besides Shakir?

Is this like a “the devil we know is worse than the devil we don’t” situation?

Elijah Moore had EIGHT interceptions when targeted last year. You’re telling me he can’t be pushed by Gabe in camp?

Gabe as a WR4 playing 35% of snaps at 3 mil is perfect.

Gabe as WR2 playing 90% snaps making 10+ mil is a concern and I’m glad the Bills played this the way they did.

Would be happy to see Gabe come back at the right price and role.

It's possible, but unlikely, that Gabe Davis could return to the Buffalo Bills. Davis is a free agent after being released by the Jacksonville Jaguars. While he was a popular figure in Buffalo and the front office would be familiar with his game, the Bills may be hesitant to bring him back due to his inconsistency and injury history.

Davis is a significantly more prolific Wr.  Would be brought in for the league minimum due to the guaranteed money from Jacksonville.  Compete with Coleman and Palmer for playing time.

He's got more upside than Hollins, but also has by far more negative plays. Drops passes, fumbles, and isn't on the same page with Josh a lot of the times which leads to interceptions

Mack had 3 drops per PFR with a drop% of 6.

and he only got open enough to get 50 targets.

Gabe has almost 1000 more yards than Mack and 14 more TD’s despite playing 38 less games than him.

I don’t think that the difference between Mack and Gabe is Jerry Rice-sized but they aren’t really comparable. Gabe was good enough to get a big contract in FA. Mack Hollins is on his 6th team.

Drop rate of 6 percent is still  lower than Gabes.

Gabe also fumbles more and has way more miscommunications with Josh, which leads to interceptions.

Translation: Gave has more upside then Mack, but also has a lot more negative stuff that happens when the ball is thrown his way. Not ideal for a WR4/5 , as you want someone reliable who can play special teams

He wasn’t a ghost.

Over the last 6 games, he had 12 catches for 256 yards and 2 TDs

Paced over 17 games, that’s 34 catches, 725 yards and 6 TDs

Which is basically right around his career averages.

He was the same player after Brady took over. Nothing changed.

He isn't a 3 catches 30 yards every game guy.  He will catch 1 or none a week or three then catch 5 for 105 and a Td.  I know what Davis is and isn’t.  If he signs it’s really a smart move for Buffalo.  Comes in earns a spot or he doesn't it will cost nothing.  Adds an established NFL wr to the room.  I don't understand the hate.

He hasn't really done that in his career. And 6 years in with injury issues, I don't think it's wise for whomever signs him to expect him to do it and do it well at an NFL level and also stay healthy.

I’m sorry, but none of these stats mean anything when your QB is MVP17.  Allen singularly made both these jags better.

He's had some great all time plays here.  The 98 yarder stands out to me.

If Devis never comes back that's how I'd remember him...

Don't ruin my memories please!

@Mr. WEO is on the horn with Beane as we speak trying to convince him how good he is and that he needs to be brought back

lol too easy.  A healthy Davis would be WR3 on this roster.

But Beane is feverishly looking up his contacts for Beasley and "Smokey" Brown....

I was told he wasn't ever gonna offer him anything substantial

There's a difference between thinking a guy is good enough to play versus paying him any sort of money

He could like him and not want to give him even 10 million dollars a year

Gabe is an average to slightly above average WR2. I think if he comes back you put him on the left side and then you put Keon on the right side and obviously Shakir goes in the slot..

Let Palmer, Samuel and Moore battle it out in camp.

I’m not to excited about Palmer. More excited about Palmer then I would be of Gabe because we already seen what he can do. Bringing up the ints when Moore was targeted is laughable. 35% of the targets that went his way were uncatchable. He caught 61 of the 65 passes that were catchable.  Moore is probably the most talented WR we have and I’m curious to see if him and Allen can make a good connection. I don’t need to see Gabe’s 5 crappy games then one big one.
