How many of us are "trade for Garrett/Crosby/Parsons/etc." or it's serious offseason disappointment?

Even with the deep group of defensive lineman I don't trust this staff to get it right. Trade for the sure thing. But wait there's more😆....the team who gets our pick will totally nail the pick as the player will completely outplay his draft position. Oh you know it's true😂

Trade. We need a couple Veterans in important positions esp on the DL. I just don't trust Beane to draft who we need. Plus we need an impact player NOW.

Pay for the game wrecker... do not look to the draft that may be one in 2-3 years.... focus on getting a person like that... but push the chips and go get a difference maker that we know has proven to be a difference maker in the league... Time is now.

Open to both options depending on the price, but given our first-round pick record a trade for an established pass rusher will give me more confidence.

The salary (and extra picks) are the price to be paid for knowing what you're getting vs. gambling in the draft.

Won't deny I would be thrilled to land Garrett, and to a slightly lesser extent, Crosby. Josh is in the middle of his prime so I don't mind using draft capital and big contracts to guarantee a disrupter joins the team.

We are much closer to fulfilling the first strategy. Probably two legit pass catchers away. The second strategy we are a legit pass rusher, a legit 1-tech, and two legit secondary players away, not to mention better coaching.

 

I've laid out my thoughts elsewhere but I'm still not convinced we are one elite pass rusher away from getting over the hump.

Everything has a price on it...you cannot simply do something to try and push yourself over the top one year if it's going to result in 3 years of down seasons after. There is no guarantee doing that will work and if it doesn't you set yourself up for some tough years to come. Too many variables and potential issues with that, namely key injuries at playoff time that could derail things.

No guarantees but the Bills are a win now mode team. Allen is still in his prime. These next 5 years or so are the Bills best shot to win with Allen at the top of his game. If they can win a Super Bowl but then have to suffer some down years because of it, then I bet most Bills fans would sign up for that.

succeeding in his role in Buffalo.

 

For that to happen, one or more of these named players would actually have to be traded from their current teams.

Then, Beane would have to give more than other teams looking to acquire the same player.

Also, the player will have a say in it too.  Does that player want to come to Buffalo?

Even if Beane wants to push in his chips the trading team might now want to trade with Buffalo.

Is Cincy really going to trade Hendrickson to their rival?

 

While it would be great I for one am going to temper my expectations.  The odds are not in favor of this working out the way we are dreaming.

If this does happen the trade will need to be done right at the time of free agency.  I don't think Beane has the luxury of waiting around.

Yeah of course, but there is a TON of luck involved as well. It worked out for the Rams with Stafford because the 49ers dropped an easy, game-clinching INT right in the hands of a defender.  Outside of that, they would have nothing to show for the trade.

Saw an X poll about trading for Garrett for two 1st rd picks or signing an FA edge rusher and using the 2025 1st and the 2 2nds on DL, CB and WR.  I’m for option 2, but I wouldn’t complain too hard if we get Garrett as long as we keep the 2 2nds.

Bean paid a reasonable price for Diggs (a #1 I think)   Two #1s would be foolish though, no matter how good Crosby or Garrett might be.  The Miller deal was a clean miss.  He has not been the closer Bean thought he was getting.  Now he is old and slow and getting by on experience.  His recent fumble recovery return showed how slow he is now. (he was run down by his own DL mates trying to block.

Garrett is younger than Miller was when we acquired him and a better player.

One person's fear is another person's hard-won lesson. Garrett is younger than Miller, but Miller didn't cost what Garrett would cost, which is likely more than the optimistic estimates going around. How about our first round this year and next, both seconds, our second next year, plus Epenesa, Elam, and Cook? Or the next three first-round picks? Keep in mind our draft picks are less valuable than any other team's except two. And how much of the cap will Garrett's salary consume, now and the next five years? 

 

Beane doesn't need one player; he needs five: defensive end, defensive tackle, corner, safety (Bishop and Rapp are both strong safeties and both shaky), and a WR1. And that's just starters; he also needs depth. He'll need every high-round pick, all the cap room he can free up, AND a lot of luck with lower-round picks to improve this team enough to take the next step.

 

As I've said elsewhere, Beane has done better than some GMs, not as good as others. He's not Howie Roseman or Eric DeCosta, but is he so deficient at talent evaluation that he needs to say, "Screw it, I'm all in on one player I know is good." I say he has a better shot hitting the ball with five swings than one.

All in on Garrett.  Even if it is three first rounders.  The problem is that our 1st rounds are more like 2nd rounders when you compare it to other suitors.

With the team's propensity to only get middling to below level talent when drafting DL, I would trade if possible. 

 

That being said, I don't think the Browns end up moving Garrett (would be my 1st choice). The cap hits are tough for them and they are already in cap hell. It's not just some mythical number with them, they have their feet to the flames. I don't think the Bengals move Hendrickson, and I especially believe they wouldn't trade him to us. Same with Pittsburgh and TJ Watt, they wouldn't trade him to the Bills. With TB being in LV, I don't think they would trade Crosby to us unless he felt they were getting over on our FO in doing so. Parsons is an interesting possibility, but we'd have to give up a bunch of draft capital and still pay him $30M per year. I can't see it. 

 

I think the draft is the reality we are looking at again. There are some really interesting prospects, guys I really like.

I'd have to see what the deal is... I'm definitely not in the Trade or bust category though I'd be insane to say I would not want a guy like Garrett. I do think the Bills can properly re-build the Defense through Free Agency and the Draft, though my confidence in the decision makers has gone down a little. I feel like there have been some pretty obvious mistakes in personnel, coaching, Draft, and philosophy on that side of the ball...

 

Regardless, for a team that trusts their front office and coaches the Bills are set up very well this off season IMHO... They could kill it with the right moves and that would not require trading anything. They need an off season (not necessarily at the same positions) like 2017 when they added Hyde, Poyer, Tre, Dawkins, Milano, and Z. Jones... Maybe even a little better... But it's not un-doable... It's well within the range of possible.

This. I am pro Garret. Just not in the "Go get him at any price" crowd. 

We desperately need help at outside wide receiver, outside corner, free safety, defensive tackle, and yes edge rusher. I think the first four positions can make up for not having Garret, but I don't think Garret covers the other four positions by himself.

 

Then on top of that I would like to keep Bernard, Shakir, and Benford (likely in that order or close to it). So now in addition to drafting the above Garret is likely pulling from guys we would like to re-sign. 

That is a long way of saying, let me see the actual cost before I pull the trigger.
