Mack Hollins in the Locker Room

Recommended Posts

Mack Hollins hasn't really gotten a lot of buzz around here. Many have been dismissive of him, and few people posting on here have shown any level of enthusiasm for the acquisition. Personally, I thought he was a solid pickup as a situational player, and probable replacement for Siran Neal on ST. Others expressed everything from confusion, to anger over his signing. The emojis given on the first post of the thread that announced his signing back in March offer a pretty good cross-section of the attitudes surrounding him on this forum: (1)👍, (2)🤮, (2)🙄, (3)😢, (2)😝, (1)🍺

But since OTAs have started, I've been struck by how much he has been talked about-- not by Bills fans (who would much rather debate the potential of Claypool and/or MVS), but by Brandon Beane, and especially Josh Allen. Josh has brought him up at least a couple times now during a press conference, and notably in the link below on NFL's Insiders, saying that he "has been such a great addition so far to that room with his mentality, his mindset is infectious to others."

Beane has made similar comments in response to questions that were not specifically about Hollins. In a season in which Beane has felt it necessary to add leaders to the team (with the departure of so many vets), has Hollins established himself as a near lock for the 53?

Heard today on the 1Billsdrive podcast that he's the loudest player on offense, encouraging other guys. Good to hear.

Hope he can play some too, but a vet presence in the WR room is good.

Isn’t he the guy who doesn’t believe in birds?

EDIT: Just found it. He’s the guy who doesn’t believe in wearing shoes - except on the football field - and doesn’t believe in using utensils “just eat with your hands.”

One of the draft prospects this year doesn’t believe in birds. How or why, I don’t know.

Maybe he's cultivating a little bit of a barbarian persona. I'm guessing that he'll mellow after he retires.

There was this hotel I once stayed at. I parked underneath a billboard. It was late at night, and I wasn't paying attention to whether there was or wasn't a billboard above my parking space. The next morning, my vehicle was covered in bird poop. It turns out that billboard was a nesting site for birds. I'm fascinated to learn that the creatures which produced that poop were purely imaginary.

I think there is some conspiracy group that believes birds are mechanical spies invading our privacy, watching us like big brother, or something.   I wonder if that is it.

We were told when he signed about his leadership. I hate that our QB is mentioning Hollins 1st when discussing WRs though. That’s not a good sign.

I wouldn't necessarily read too much into it. Among the WRs, it's entirely possible Hollins has the biggest personality. That could easily explain why he's the one Josh happened to mention first.

That's just silly. With where things are in the off-season, or really ever, expecting/needing the QB to share some kind of revelatory observations about a specific passing target is folly. Allen's holistic and enthusiastic comments about Hollins (a big, gritty pro who is seeking to fill a prominent leadership, depth, and special teams role) are somehow a bad sign?! That's confirmation bias gymnastics. You don't definitively know most of what you think you know. None of us do.

I believe he’s almost certain to make the 53 for all these reasons you’ve already stated.

As far as fans not being enthused enough by his signing, did you really expect a different reaction? There’s nothing about his career up to this point that would generate any sort of excitement from the average fan.

Yup. Birds aren’t real car magnets are a thing. It’s dumb, IMO

I’m not reading into it. It’s just depressing that Mack Hollins is mentioned.

Mack is one of my favorite Bills and he has yet to play a game.  I laugh when people underestimate Mack.  Bills WR have a new attitude now, and we are building a bully

It’s a fake activism group that I think tries to prove how much people can be manipulated with BS

I’m underestimating him because he’s Mack Hollins, 31 year old career special teams player.

To the best of my knowledge, he has never been wizarded, or played on a team with a trusted process.  You have to throw out his previous track record and realize this is a brand new Mack Hollins.
