Mel is back and I gotta say I love the pick

I like to read as many mock draft articles as I can. Whether it's from Mel, or whoeever else. Anyone can pretty much read an article like that for free in a lot of places but you got the select few that include into a subscription along with TV shows and all that that they want them to pay for. It's ONE article and people are forced to pay $10.99 even though, they get more with the subscription, I want to read the one article. No one should have to oay for that. Just like I think the Amazon Prime football games and the playoff peacock game should have been free and forcing people to pay for that to watch a game even though those platforms offer other shows is just wrong

This is EXACTLY why I refuse to pay for a prostitute when other girls are giving it away free. ***** them expensive whores.

Metcalf was the definition of an alpha. My problem with Thomas is he basically just runs in a straight line and that's the extent of his skill set (with an elite release to match, to be fair). Metcalf did that and also made contested catches and was a beast to bring down. Thomas doesn't do well with any sort of contact at the catch point and he doesn't break tackles, and he is not going to avoid that in the NFL.

I don't think Thomas is as good in contested catch situations as DK was, but he is quite good at it statistically and there's plenty of it on film as well. I think he's pretty good after the catch too; he's not as stiff a runner as DK was but obviously not as strong either. He's not like Adonai Mitchell and Harrison Jr. and guys like that where you can be pretty certain they're going down once they come up against tacklers but he's also not Malik Nabers. I wouldn't consider either of those areas to be weaknesses.

I would say contested catches are more of an issue with Franklin, Mitchell, and Worthy if we're comparing guys that may be considered at 28. Franklin and Worthy are better after the catch, though I think Worthy is worse than you'd expect him to be given his physical gifts.

Edit: I also think Thomas can probably run more routes than he showed in college. There's no reason he shouldn't be dynamic on crossers and slants; I kinda think a part of why you didn't see much of it is because Jaylen Daniels struggles on those throws. Daniels was mostly a curl route/vertical route thrower and as a result, that's the vast majority of what Thomas got to do. Not to mention Nabers is understandably better in terms of acceleration so when they did try to target the middle of the field, it was generally Nabers getting to do it. This is obviously me projecting a bit though.

Curious as to why people dislike this pick. Watching the tape he’s very fluid in setting up defenders to get leverage. Sure the route tree footage isn’t there but if you watch what is on tape he has the necessary tools in terms of footwork, explosiveness and effective release that shows with some refinement he could be the real deal when coupled with his high pointing, length and ball tracking. Definite room for improvement but none that is an absolute detriment that can prevent him from becoming dominant.

If he tests well at the combine he’s easily slotting as close to, if not before, the Odunze pick. MHJ & Nabers followed closely by those two.

Maybe I just haven't seen it. Anything I've watched or read on him makes it seem like he struggles playing through contact at the catch point. I honestly don't care about contested catch stats because it doesn't seem to match up with the film. For example I see people say Keon Coleman has a low relative contested catch rate, but you turn on the film and that clearly isn't true. I don't know what the issue is with how that stat is calculated or tracked but it just doesn't match up with what I see.

On Franklin - I agree contested catches are not his strong suit. And I'm not saying I need my WR to be a contested catch specialist. Quite the opposite, it's probably the last thing I care about. But if you're going to be just a straight line vertical WR you better have some kind of alpha catch skill set, or else you will never win reps unless you flat out leave your man in the dust. Thomas can probably do that a fair amount of the time but it's such a limited skill set and doesn't project to a true #1 role. Whereas with Franklin I think he offers more than just straight line vertical speed and has the ability to become a true #1.

As far as Thomas's route running, you may be right that he can develop a larger tree. That is always hard to project. If he does, no doubt he is a 1st round talent. I would just prefer a better base starting point with his skill set to feel comfortable with him. I recognize I'm in the minority in my evaluation of him.

I want to read one article in the NYT daily and don’t care about the rest of the paper.  It’s bull#### that I have to pay for the entire digital edition.  I should be able to read my article for FREE!

I dont think he makes it to our pick, but yes i'd love him in Buffalo.

I think he is going to be a Bengal.

Certainly a possibility but also possible the Bengals take Coleman or another top WR, likely I think to get Thomas the Bills may have to trade up 2-3 spots but that should be doable without giving up too much.

Troy Franklin or Brian Thomas Junior or Leggette please

One of these 2 must be the selection. It's like 1a/1b.  Franklin will probably come in around 4.35 where Thomas will be around 4.45.  Franklin has better short to intermediate route projection where Thomas is the slightly better hands and straight line 50/50 route guy. You might not go wrong with either but I can be convinced that Franklin's speed will prevail.  Hopefully we don't have to trade up for either. Adonai Mitchell is more of an early 2nd round grab.

Because there is always somebody here who will complain about anything

Somebody they loved did NOT get picked. We love to play the hindsight game.

.

How do you measure a drafts success without hindsight? Seems most people insist you need wait five years to see how a draft actually went.

I think we are going to regret not taking our receiver with our 28th pick or a slight tray down and using our first pick on a receiver

At the end of the first round, these guys are going to start going fast and furious off the board

I’m just against taking a defensive player with that first pic every time we get into the playoffs it ends up not mattering anyway, let McDermott coach these guys up

I'm confident Beane puts his foot down "somewhat" and demands a top wr. If one of Thomas/ Franklin make it to 28 you pounce. If he picks someone like Chop Robinson or Trice I'll lose it.

I'm so sick of these paywall articles. I shouldn't have to pay it to read someone's mock draft

I mean this is their job.  Someone has to pay their salaries to do it.  I think the issue is that the main public doesn’t understand how much it costs to make content and to keep getting that content there has to be some sort of monetization of that content or they won’t be able to keep making it.

I KNOOOOOOWWWWWWW. again, I don't want to read all of their articles or watch their programming. I want to read THIS article. The game of thrones comparison is not the same thing. I pay for Netflix, I don't do it for one show. Even if I did, I understand that that's the only possible way I have access to thay show. I think it was wrong to make football fans subscribe to peacock just to watch a football game. Am I wrong for thinking that way too? The articles can be included with the ESPN plus subscription. That doesn't mean they can't make each individual article free to the reader.

The mock draft is someone's content that they worked to make.  Why should it be free?

Why should any article online be free then? There are millions all over the place online about a million different things that people can read free of charge. Why are they free?
