Big Blitz Posted April 25, 2023 Share Posted April 25, 2023 Since the Darnell Wright mock I’ve spent more time looking at the OTs - because this position could be a strength in RD 1 and a real possibility. And I’m coming around to solidifying this oline with an elite (hopefully) bookend with Dawkins. I generally don’t like the 6’8 guys. But man. I don’t know. This guy can freaking move and is ridiculously strong. The more I watch the more I think he moves and plays like a taller Tyron Smith. I’m not concerned about the weight at all. His frame looks so solid top to bottom. I think of the OTs he’s now my guy. He’s passed Wright and if my WR is gone at 27 I’d take Jones. And if we trade back and pull off a Hopkins trade he will be there early RD 2 for us. His tape vs Hutchinson has some really good work here - remember this was 2 years ago. Besides, didn't we already have a guy named Jones a few years ago that was really big and played QB at Ohio State that didn't pan out? I should add that they weren't saying he was a bad actor just that he needed to develop his work ethic. I haven't followed the guy so honestly I dont know whether it's true. One thing I would question is his suitability for a zone run blocking scheme. I know he will go before then. Possibly late 1st, more likely 2nd round. But I wouldn't take him. He also quit drills during his Pro Day, and I think only practiced one day at the Sr. Bowl...There are some pretty big (no pun intended) questions on him right now and I doubt the Bills are very interested. The issue/excuse people cite is his back surgery and little off-season to train while recovering. At best Brown is a massive question mark for 2023. If he can play better he is a cheap starter, that seems capable in the run game and a liability in pass protection that Allen can at least see coming. I truly hope OT is taken in the first three rounds. That all said, I'm equally worried about Dawkins. He regressed terribly last year. If they take a capable LT in the first round I would not be shocked to see Dawkins gone in 2024. Or moved to LG in 2024 with the McGovern guy or Bates maybe moving to Center if Morse retires. BarleyNY Posted April 25, 2023 Share Posted April 25, 2023 I watch nearly every tOSU game. The kid is massive and has talent, but I didn’t always love what I saw from him on the field. The potential for a very high ceiling is there, but I hate drafting early on potential.
