Top 10 NFL Slot Receivers according to NexGen Stats

"aced that test so far"....sounds like a stat-based examination on the player. A real-life examination would see key drops in big moments and looking somewhat lost on the field at times. Truth be told, he has had some big catches too, but after 3 years of Cole, we Bills fans expect much more.

McKenzie was responsible for missing two tds against the Chiefs you can’t have that in the second half down the stretch. If you can find an upgrade you do it. And I’m looking at you KJ Hamler.

I think he had his "bell rung" early in the KC game, which affected his play the rest of the game.  His head hit the field fairly hard on the play where he went after a high pass and was drilled backward onto the turf.

Josh has a 126.8 passer rating when targeting Lil Dirty out of the slot. 2nd in the league with 3 TDs out of the slot so far this season.

Yet some people want McKenzie benched and have given up on him 🤦🏾‍♂️

Lmao unfortunately the game isn’t based on who has the highest passer rating

Cupp being listed as a slot is just cheating and skews the whole list.  I get that he lines up there a lot, but he's not a slot receiver

So you're saying if you take Kupp out, McKenzie would be #6 instead of #7 on the "Top Slots" list? 😈

I think a guy who lines up in the slot >50% of the time can probably be called a slot receiver?  what else would you call him or how would you define "slot receiver"?  I have to admit, I don't think of Christian Kirk, Jerry Jeudy, and Amon-Ra St Brown as slot receivers but....

No question there was concern, Chad Hall and a trainer met him coming off the field.  I thought that should have been called as a "defenseless receiver" hit as the defender's helmet went right through the ball into McKenzie's facemask while he was landing.  I guess if you target the ball, you can get away with hitting the head (or the nuts, or anyplace else)

I don't think that would explain the busted jet sweep to R/screen pass to L/"option reverse pitch" to McKenzie though, didn't that take place beforehand?

A slot receiver should almost primarily by the #3 receiver on a team.  If only Davis and Diggs are stacked up top, I'm not going to say one of them is a slot receiver going forward

I am/was a big McKenzie fan coming into this season but he really frustrated me in the last outing. He has been moderately productive for us.

LOL I'm just bustin' chops posting this.

Objectively, an examination of production (ie stats) has it's place.  It's a valid point to consider that a player can't generate good stats without good play.....

I think part of how we view McKenzie is colored by what Beasley was to Josh in 2019 and 2020, and to a lesser extent in 2021.  There's no question that Beasley was one of the best slot receivers in football those seasons, and McKenzie is a significant drop-off.

But part of it is narrative, just as there was a narrative of "Josh Allen inaccurate" that is incompletely shaken even now (where an obviously tipped pass has announcers opining about how "Josh missed on that throw" or a pass that hits the defender's legs has one of the film breakdown gurus nit-picking Josh's mechanics and I'm like "c'mon Man that was a laser, the defender was probably in the training room for a bruise all week".
