On one hand, great!  It's always good to have talented players on the team, especially if they can push us over the top to win a Super Bowl.

 

However, I can already see the spotlight being shined on HIM if we do win it all.  I would hate to see that.  There are a LOT of players and coaches that have worked years to turn this ship around... OBJ isn't one of them.

Completely separate from whether I think we should sign OBJ... I couldn't give a flying ***** who gets the spotlight if we are hoisting the Lombardi in February.

 

As for not working out "on his current tour," it may be that this is just his decision-making process.  He'll decide which team he wants, and then, if they're interested, he'll work out for THAT team only before the team decides whether to offer him a contract.  And if the team decides not to offer him a contract, he may just pack it in until the offseason.  I don't necessarily blame him for not wanting to do three separate workouts, and the teams themselves may want it that way too.  The more teams he works out for, the greater the chance that information from one of those workouts will leak.  Any GM would have to be some kind of moron to actually offer him a contract before seeing what he can do right now.  So he's probably going to the Cowboys.

You are looking at it wrong. Beckham doesn't get us over the top, he helps increase our chance of winning. So we have the goods to win the Super Bowl, but Beckham helps increase our chances. 

 

That said, he needs to show teams he's ready. If he isn't ready until literally the super bowl game, does he even play? Like do you risk changing what you did to get there just to play him? What if he runs a wrong route? Or the QB and him just aren't in sync and it leads to an INT? There needs to be time to build up a chemistry.

Not surprising. OBJ is coming off injury and might not even be back to 100% at all this season. Looking at it from his POV, why would he only sign a deal for the rest of the year? I feel like he would be better off just waiting until the season is over then. He’d have a lot more teams interested I’m sure. Looking at the pool of free agent WR’s for 2023, it looks pretty weak. I think OBJ would be near (or at) the top of the list.

If Buffalo signs OBJ I am confident it will be for more than this season. It will likely all come down to what the other teams offer and what OBj is willing to settle for. I don’t see the Bills giving him crazy money. Certainly not the $20M/yr he’s rumored to supposedly want. I could see a 2-3 year deal with incentives and lighter on guaranteed $$ and I’d be good with that. The Bills need a #2 WR to play opposite Diggs. I thought Davis would fill that role. But now I’m not sure he’s capable.

 

I’m also ok with letting him walk if someone else offers him stupid money.

If he can’t contribute this season I don’t think the bills would take him for free.  He’ll get a multi year deal but a majority of the point of why the bills would sign him would be the playoff push this season.  A lot would come down to the physical

The guy isn't even working out for teams.  If he can't play full time by the Bengals game, what use is he.

Do fans really think the Bills would sign and play a guy with no time in the system for only the playoffs?

I think it would be a huge disruption and a mistake.

 

I think the juicy rumors have dried up for the Bills.

I'm sure he's going to want a lot of guaranteed money, which I think would be a mistake for whoever signs him.  I'm down for signing him, but only with an incentive-heavy contract.   A guy coming of a second ACL tear of the same knee is going to be a huge question mark when it comes to performance and durability over the course of a 17-game season.

 

As far as this season goes, we have no idea what kind of shape he's in and he's probably looking for a long-term contract, so he may not even do a rental for the remainder of this season.

That story came out the day of/after he met with the Giants.  Color me skeptical that it wasn't put out there by the one team who OBJ makes the most sense for if he can't contribute this year.

back in game shape.  My point is why would the Bills want that if he isn't ready real soon?

I don't necessarily disagree, I just think the report that he may not play this year was very convenient for the Giants... to come out right after he visited them.

 

I want OBJ here, but will admit that some of the hype has worn off with him not working out for anyone.

So I think the Buffalo News reporters are still held closer to the AP standard for sources and verification than the Athletic guys or the "NFL insiders".  If a TBN guy says "multiple sources" say he's not working out for the teams he's visiting, it may be true.

I guess the idea would be, we acquire a great WR for next year.  But for the Bills, I think signing a contract with a guy who can't for-real and for-sure contribute not only this season, but very soon, would be a huge risk to the mental cohesion of the locker room.  It could be sending a message to home-grown talent like Edmunds and Oliver that the Bills talk the talk about draft, develop, re-sign but they might not be walking the walk for you.  It would send a message to the guys who've been busting their humps to help the Bills to 8-3, "you're a Domestique to us.  Throw everything you've got in to every game, play your heart out, then maybe we'll shelve you for the Dance".

 

I fall into the camp who believes that the Bills are, in fact, thin in talent at receiver.  But color me skeptical about the risk/reward of bringing in OBJ if he can't play right now.

The only person I would worry about "offending" per se, would be Poyer, as an OBJ deal for next year pretty much slams the door shut (it would seem) on him being here next year.  

 

I tend to think Poyer already knows that, especially with us paying him a little extra this season to show him our appreciation, but that's the one... Not a huge worry, but if OBJ isn't helping us win THIS YEAR, I could see Poyer feeling slighted given he's giving this team his all this year, for that sole purpose.. to win a Super Bowl.

This is stuff fans think about far more than players.    The players are worried about their own individual jobs with regard to contracts.   And there are players getting released and signed at the bottom of the roster every week yet somehow fans only concern themselves with how the movement at the top of the roster must look to the locker room.    The majority of the team wants to see the team go for a Super Bowl then and there and let the chips fall where they may thereafter.

Hopefully the Bills realize that Poyer is the lynchpin to this defense and re-sign him. He doesn't look like there's a dropoff in his play and the Bills are 8-0 when he plays

THIS YEAR is what this would be about. We can draft or sign someone else for next season. If he can't play this year then good luck somewhere else.

 

this guy made it a handful of games and re-tore the same ACL.
