Gugny
Jane Fonda, 84, revealed that she’s been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Through entertainment and activism, she’s been a major contributor to society and I wish her well. https://www.cnn.com/2022/09/02/entertainment/jane-fonda-non-hodgkins-lymphoma/index.html 3

Logic
My thoughts are with her. Just completed six months of chemotherapy for Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma myself. Chemo and its effects weren't much fun, but also weren't as bad as I expected. Currently cancer free and fingers crossed I stay that way. Here's hoping for the same outcome for Ms Fonda, whose decades of activism make her a great asset to the human race. 3 9
US Egg
Maybe because I saw her in “Barbarella” before she mouthed off in the early ‘70’s, I never thought of her as anything significant, except attractive. BW 1 1
Joe Ferguson forever
Remember her at the gates of Hooker Chemical. She was right then to bring attention to Love Canal (tho I would argue that Hooker was not to blame) but going to Hanoi was a big mistake. Love that she befriended Dolly Parton filming 9 to five. On Golden Pond was a great movie with her dad. Wish her the best and that it's indolent. Edited September 2, 2022 by redtail hawk

She is a really great actress. "They Shoot Horsed Don't They?" is one of my all-time favorite movies. The documentary that HBO did about her, a few years ago ("Jane Fonda In Five Acts") was really great. btw- if you haven't seen it, check out "Joy House". It is a French film she did in 1964, with Alan Delon. A good thriller! Edited September 3, 2022 by Buftex

In that link she never mentioned calling US Servicemen "war criminals," and "murderers" and suggesting they deserved execution. She did that more than once in radio Hanoi programs. I wish her no ill, but she never really apologized for her treason, and aiding and abetting an enemy is the very definition of that. 1 1

JoeF
Our collective diversity of opinion on her is warranted. She got more thoughtful and measured as she progressed through life. I don't want to make this a LAMP but through a job at Turner Broadcasting, I traveled around Russia sporadically with her for a couple of months in the early 90's around the 1994 Goodwill Games. She really had grown to appreciate a free society and those that protected it. To this day, I really, really think highly of her. She funded and set up western style OBGYN clinics in Moscow and Saint Petersburg in a country where Women's health issues were ignored. She spent millions of her money (not Ted's). When my Dad found out I was working with Hanoi Jane it was the closest he came to disowning me...God rest his soul. I hope she kicks cancer's ass like she does aerobic workouts... 2

I strongly disagree, and my mind will not be changed. When the country is at war, going to the enemy and making ten unsolicited radio appearances calling US servicemen war criminals, murderers and suggesting they should be executed is absolutely giving comfort to the enemy. Again, I wish her no ill, but her actions were treasonous. Further, she had no idea what "US servicemen were fighting for." She was an ignorant knucklehead with a microphone, and she gave comfort to an enemy. 2 1

She was an ignorant knucklehead with a microphone, and she gave comfort to an enemy. Treasonous, to me, isn't an accurate representation of what she did. There was certainly nothing criminal about it. Do you think the US servicemen had any idea what they were fighting for? That was her whole point. She was far from ignorant. She was well-informed and well-spoken. She expressed regret (many times) for taking the picture. She spoke out against the war. The young men dropping bombs on civilians were following orders ... that was her message. She wasn't condemning the ones doing these things as much as she was condemning the ones pulling the strings .. .the War Pigs ... the Piggies. Nine to Five is a funny movie, but it's Dabney Coleman who steals it in that one. Barbarella is awful. She's good in On Golden Pond, but Henry Fonda is fantastic. She was very good in Barefoot in the Park & The China Syndrome. As for the Vietnam stuff, well, I personally think she is a loathsome, elitist, and vile person. Especially years after her stunt in Hanoi. Her attitude towards Vietnam veterans is just gross, but I'm sure the feeling is mutual amongst the veterans as well. Most of the men I served with above the O4 level my first cruise had been involved in that war. As a junior carrier attack pilot at that time, who was not involved in that, I had many conversations with them about target selection, rules of engagement and a host of other nonsense that went on during the Johnson/McNamara DOD led war. She was absolutely ignorant, and calling for them to be executed as murderers and war criminals in their capitol during a war with many POWs being tortured is not something something I would classify as "freedom of speech." Rico
I can sympathize with where she was coming from back during the war, though I don’t agree with her actions…. but I think what she was arrested for a few years ago was stupid af.
