I am anti Dotson in the first. He is a slot receiver to me and if you are taking a guy in round 1 they better be capable of playing outside.

I agree that you don't use a first on a slot-only WR.

But you thought Justin Jefferson was slot-only though too and he's turned into nearly the opposite..........a massive big play threat.........the top yardage producing WR in the entire NFL the past 2 seasons.

Dotson is physically more likely to be slot-only than the long and lanky Jefferson was, IMO...........but if he tears it up in testing I will think higher of his chances to play all 3 spots.

I think he is thinking you could play Wyatt at 1 tech on 1st and 2nd down and then play with double 3 techs in a pass rush package.

Yep..........and I do believe Wyatt would be an excellent fit just like that...........and probably a nice replacement for Oliver himself when that day comes...........but  a lot would have to be off the board to keep adding to a relative strength at a mid-value position when you can satisfy a long term solution at a high value position.

Yep. I was wrong on Jefferson, I thought he was a big slot guy only. I see Dotson as more Jalen Reagor with better hands than Justin Jefferson though.

The issue with Jefferson was his tape as a wideout split wide from 2018 was very average. It left you to speculate was what you saw in 2019 and the miracle season a result of a move to the slot where he faced less press or was it a combination of that and natural development - basically he was just a much better player in 2019. It turned out it was most definitely the latter.

Isn’t he too similar to Davis? He’s 6’3”225. Should we go Dotson instead for the speed aspect of his game? I’m just asking, I would love Burke’s guys a monster and can run a 4.5

I would rather have a WR core full of physical specimens that can not only put run a DB, but make a contested catch.  The difference in 1/20th of a second in the 40 is unlikely to be the difference of success or failure as a great player, but it often gets guys with little football skill drafted because of the perception of it meaning something.  If you look at the great WRs, there are very few burners and a bunch of guys that are 6ft tall or taller and are considered “slow” at the combine.

I guess to the point, would you rather have Henry Ruggs (pre stupidity) or Julio Jones? Crazy fast is nice, if they can stay healthy, but ultimately a well rounded player is the better bet.

Right now the Bills get to the Red Zone and have to rely on Allen too much to either run or make a perfect touch pass because they only have Davis (who apparently was forgot about early in the year, but I digress) or Knox to go to that can physically win off the line and box a DB out.   Love Diggs, but he’s not a RZ threat so to speak, Beasley can be and is blown up a lot at the line, Sanders was the same and that’s all they run out there.  I hope Dorsey turns up the physical play a bit more, use Doyle as a massive TE or FB, and they add another big guy or 2 as receivers. Small is great between the 20’s, but when you need to work in tight areas, size is a huge bonus.

Yeah, similarly I see Garrett Wilson as a significantly different player in 2021 than he had been in 2020.    I think that's why he's passed Olave in the minds of a lot of people.

I am still higher on Olave but I aclnowledge I have a type when it comes to receivers and it is route runners. Olave is the best route runner in the class to my eye.

My likes (from watching some film):

-YAC monster (which we need).

-High-points with ferocity and authority.

-Dusted some Bama DB's, so even though he's a big boy, he does have some serious speed.

-Versatile: Saw some plays out of the backfield, jet sweeps, etc...

The big questions:

-Will he be there for us?

-IF he is there, as well as Jameson Williams, who do you choose? Tough call to make.

Interesting that DJ has Linderbaum at 26 and Williams at 27. If we can get a couple random unexpected players drafted early (like the Raiders always do), we're going to have some real good choices at 25.  After watching our 3 DE's kinda have quiet seasons, I say full steam ahead on offensive picks. Get your pass rusher by FA or trade.

If Linderbaum is there at 25 (no way he makes it past the 3 Eagles picks) he is the guy I’d want.

See my post earlier in the week in the "Draft Thoughts" thread. The noises seem to be that teams are not universally high on him. Zone blocking teams like him, teams running more gap or power schemes are less keen and there are teams who have him off their boards. If the Bills are (as it appears) going to be more of a gap blocking team then not sure they'd take him even if he got to #25.

He freaky athletic ability makes him sound like a Beane type pick in the 1st, it's not out of the question unless a freaky NT or OG prospect fell to us. I also could see us taking a LB Devin Lloyd if we don't bring Klein back and successor to Edmunds in his 2nd season.

I prefer Lloyd.

Is 4.5 really THAT fast? LOL! I kind of like the idea of adding offensive fire power, with Sanders and McKenzie becoming free agents and Beasley’s future up in the air.

No, but there ain't many guys that size and that physical running low 4.5s. He reminds me a bit of CeeDee Lamb in that he is a pretty big guy (Burks is 6'3, Lamb is 6'2) but actually he is better with the ball in his hands after the catch than as a contested catch guy. He isn't as polished as Lamb nor does he have quite the same college production but that is who I see. A slightly less refined CeeDee. I think CeeDee ran a low 4.5 and I think Burks needs to do the same or better to be a 1st rounder.

He’s a great player/technician and it’s fair to say it’s a position of need. But he’s not ideal for any blocking scheme being on the small side. A lot would depend on what Kromer wanted to do. Zone great, power\man not so much.

I also think he’s a Center only. Morse is 29.

Physically he's basically AJ Brown, a little taller, more wingspan.
