Allen comments on getting too hyped up before games

Recommended Posts

Allen appeared on Bills Pod Squad with Maddy Glab and Kim Pegula yesterday and commented on getting too hyped up before games and needing to calm himself down.

"When I get amped up, I get so anxious and aggressive. I come out there and I just can't throw the ball right. So I literally have to try to calm myself down as much as possible because I'm so happy I get to play football."

Many posters here have criticized me and others who have brought this up, said it was fake news, etc., so here you go. Concerns about Josh's readiness to handle a full stadium of amped-up fans are warranted and a very valid discussion point. Hopefully, he'll show that he's ready to overcome these concerns.

Good Lord dude - give it a rest.  He has talked about this many times in the past.

It does not mean anything.

Dumb.

At least people are admitting that he's talked about it. Most posters here like to pretend it's a non-issue. Here Allen is literally telling you that it's an issue, and people still want to shoot the messenger because they can't handle anything but blind positivity.

You made the comment he doesn’t play well at home…that’s why you were criticized.

You also made the comment that McDermott’s history against rookie QB’s isn’t good.

This isn't a huge deal. Other QBs have had this same thing, Favre and Elway come to mind. Maybe it's the strong armed guys that it affects more because they throw it so hard. I think that's why Allen likes to run early and get a little contact, just to knock the cobwebs off and get him into the game.

The Steelers game will be a good barometer because it's game 1 and the crowd will be insane.

Kelly puked before every game.  Everyone has nerves and feels nerves.  Learn to use it for good and not be crippled by it. Some players thrive in pratice struggle in games, while other don't practice and come a live during games.

Kelly did?  I know Bruce did.

I and several other posters have been consistently flamed for bringing this up, long before that comment.

Maybe I’m not remembering correctly, but it wasn’t the comments about him getting too hyped that people got flames for-it was the assumptions and comments made because he was too hyped that people got flamed for. I think everyone agrees from day 1 Josh gets a little too hyped at the beginning of a game…he was also younger then, had a cannon for an arm, and plays with a lot of emotion. It would be the comments like “perhaps he shouldn’t start home games” or “we won’t win consistently if he can’t calm down” that would make people want to bang their head repeatedly on a wall

Yeah he was terrible against the packers.

Hopefully a good sign, but it was preseason. Tomorrow will go a long way.

I seem to remember Josh saying that his pre game playlist used to be full of rap & hip hop music but he changed up to Sinatra tunes to calm himself down pregame.

but I'm old so I could be mistaken.

This is correct

You're trying to twist your own words. You said dumb thing and were called out on those dumb things. Stop trying to take a victory lap and figure out why you need a victory lap on message board.

It is a non issue.  He talked about this 2 years ago and making changes.

Will he be over excited- probably, but it means nothing and people that keep acting like it is an issue are just looking for something to complain about.

I recommend just letting it go, but you do you.

No one said it was fake new.  No one just feels the need to put such time in worrying about it.  It’s like you look for things to make you nervous.

You have been flamed because of your take on the subject and it being a problem.  He has been consistent that it takes him a few throws and maybe a hit to get settled down.

You have constantly acted like this impacts for the entire game and seasons.  It is just beyond stupid.
