Rodgers Disgruntled with Packers

That was a great performance.  10 years ago.  How does that make him the greatest QB ever?

He's not even the greatest of the past 10 years.  The line would start behind Brady and Manning.

Several factors to consider:

1) No way does Green Bay win that Super Bowl with either Brady or Manning.

2) If you’re in a “what have you done for me lately?” mood, I’d point out Rodgers just won NFL MVP, with an insanely high level of play.
3) Rodgers’ career yards per attempt and QB rating are a little higher than Brady’s.

4) According to Vegas, Rodgers is worth more points than any other QB in football betting history.

Those four factors, among other considerations, are sufficient to put him in the conversation for best QB ever. Obviously there are other names in that discussion as well.

1) Maybe.  Was Rodgers and the Packers down 28-3 in the 3rd Q of that game?  No, in fact GB never trailed in that game and had a 10 point 4th Q lead.

2) Rodgers, with the "weapons" assembled for him by his GM (same as the one's had the year before) was able, with them, to reach MVP level play for the first time since 2014.

3) No one cares about YPA (7.8 vs 7.5!!) and career rating.  Kirk Cousins has a higher career YPA and Rating than Brady--that puts Brady behind "Kurt" in the list of all time greats!  Also, that means Mahomes has surpassed Rodgers as well as the all time greatest...

4)  Brady has won 77% of his games--100 more than Rodgers, with only 6 more career losses. That's a lot of money made in Vegas.  And then there's the playoff betting: 45 games with Brady (34-11) vs 21 for Rodgers (12-9).   Plus......you know....all that SB betting: 10 SB's (7 rings) vs 1.  So, Brady has made bettors a ton more money than Rodgers has.

What else you got?

The time to trade him was before last Thursday.  Denver and maybe Miami are only teams left.  Although it would be hilarious if Green Bay traded him to Houston and that dumpster fire.

Perhaps I missed something, but doesn't Rodgers have a no-trade clause?

I have a vision of Beane's contract negotiations with Allen and his representatives:

Allen: "Want a no trade clause in the contract.  Feel strongly."

Beane: "I can appreciate that, but from the team side, look at the problem created when guys like Watson and Rodgers become loudly and publicly dissatisfied, but that no trade clause hamstrings the team from moving on"

Allen: "OK, you can put a second clause in there if I ever become a whiny little b--- trashing the team in public, the no-trade clause is off"

That GM should resign.

yes!!

By all means, the GM who's team, since he got there, went from 6-9 to back to back 13-3 seasons and NFCC games absolutely must admit his failure and quit!

The guy who brought in a new HC (after Rodgers whined about McCarthy), and surrounded Rodgers with sufficient talent to go from seasons of 25 and 26 TDs to 48 and the best season of his career (and an MVP)---THAT guy, if he has any sense of shame at all, should quietly slink out of the building!

Yes.  Do it before they have to get rid of Rodgers and the Love pick blows up in their faces.  Again.

What else you got?

1) Rodgers played at an outstanding level that whole Super Bowl, which is why Green Bay never trailed.

3) I'll grant that yards per attempt and QB rating are not the end all be all. In some situations it's easier to put together good numbers than others. In Kansas City, Alex Smith put up insanely good, better than most Hall of Fame player type numbers, especially in his last year as starter. This, after having put up very pedestrian numbers elsewhere. So, KC is a great place to put up good numbers. During Rodgers' time as a starter, his backup led the team to a 2-5-1 record while Rodgers was hurt. Nothing in that leads me to believe there's anything special about Green Bay's system which sets a QB up for an unusually high level of  individual or team success.

4) You state that Brady has a better winning record than Rodgers. I'd point out that football is a team sport. An individual player does not win or lose games. The Patriots went 11-5 when Brady was out with an injury and Matt Cassell came in. The Packers went 2-5-1 when Rodgers was out and his backup played. The Patriots were a better team, and a better-run organization, than the Packers. Prior to Rodgers' injury, the Packers were 6-2--on pace for a 12-4 season, which would have been a fairly normal record for them with Rodgers under center. Going from a 6-2 team with Rodgers, to a 2-5-1 team without him, may be one of the reasons why Vegas believes he's worth more points than any other QB in NFL history. Brady's time with the Patriots was as a great QB on a very good team. Rodgers' time with the Packers has been a great QB propping up what would otherwise have been a losing team. Comparing the two QBs' W/L record is apples to oranges.

The Packers were 6-9-1 just 3 years ago, with Rodgers.

How many SBs did NE win with Cassel?  How many have the Packers won with Rodgers?

Nothing "leads you to believe there's anything special" about GB re: QBs success?  Really?  Nothing comes to mind? How many other franchises have replaced one HOF franchise QB with another--both who played their whole career as starters with the same franchise?  Isn't it a "system" that sits a 1st round draft pick behind a future HOFer for a few years?  Seems like a decent system so far...

It's a team sport, but with Rodgers, HE was "propping up" a bunch of losers and Brady was surrounded by top Offensive talent in NE?  It's a team sport, but old man Brady just strolls into Tampa (into the wrong house even) and wins a SB?

Brady is the perfect illustration of football being a team game. He went to TB and they assembled an all-star team because he wanted to throw to top notch WRs. Winston put up some really good numbers there, but kept throwing picks.

Brady was the missing piece. Then they added Brown ad Gronk, who made his few plays when it mattered most.

Teams win Super Bowls. Green Bay totally wasted its 2020 1st and 4th round draft picks on a QB who contributed nothing but a firestorm of drama.

Does Winfield Jr. get beat for that TD right before half in the NFC Title Game? Instead, they have a guy who constantly gets scorched at CB.

But they have a guy who they want to play QB "many years from now" in their words, standing there in a knit cap watching the game!

> The Packers were 6-9-1 just 3 years ago, with Rodgers.

Three years ago (2018) Rodgers threw for 7.4 yards per attempt, had a 97.6 QB rating, and had over 4400 passing yards. Brady's career averages are 7.5 yards per attempt and 97.3 QB rating. So, there's nothing to suggest Rodgers was the problem in 2018. The Packers going 6-9-1 is an indication the Packers were even worse, in terms of talent level and coaching, than they were the year Rodgers went 6-2 while his backup went 2-5-1.

> How many other franchises have replaced one HOF franchise QB with another?

The GM and coaching staff who'd been involved in trading for Favre had been gone for decades. The current GM and coaching staff should be evaluated on their own merits, not allowed to ride on the coattails of guys who are long gone. Take Rodgers away from the Packers and they are a losing team.

> It's a team sport, but old man Brady just strolls into Tampa (into the wrong house even) and wins a SB?

Tampa Bay had assembled a great football team, and they only needed a QB. Signing Brady as a free agent seems to have worked out well for them.

He didn't make that team better though....

Take Rodgers off the Packers last year and put in Brady and maybe the Packer fans are tasting SB victory for the fist time in 10 years.

what sucks the most about this whole debacle is that we’re going to have to deal with Rodgers in the AFC.

not sure what kind of draft capital it's gonna take to get rogers, but it would be a huge haul.

if rogers leaves, and the new picks power up GB to go get another chip, and that new qb looks good, that franchise really has to be considered the greatest/luckiest ever.

If he happens to leave GB, he’ll likely be playing in the afc.  Just what we need.  That way we can have 10 of the top 13 QBs in the afc

They might not get by KC, who knows?  They might end our season and keep us from getting our chance at payback.  Philip rivers would’ve ended our season last year if not for Josh Allens game saving heroics.

You shouldn’t pretend to know what will happen.   You pretended to know last year when you said the packers were a joke and had no chance to win 13 games last year.... go spew your lack of knowledge on this subject to someone that might respect it.

They would have to get past KC and Buffalo to get to the SB.  You really think that would be easier than staying in the NFC at GB?  It's a simple question.

And how would the very tempermental Rodgers deal with the brain trust of Shurmur and Elway?

Honestly dude this thread is too easy for you because it is QB vs QB.  Let’s see if you can face the challenge of turning the Tommy Doyle thread into the “why Tom Brady is the greatest human to ever walk the face of the Earth” thread.  It doesn’t have to be Doyle, but make it a challenge, but the first name similarities give you a head start.  Also acceptable would be extolling the virtues of Bellichick in the Sabres thread or something along those lines.

If you want a challenge within this thread: Please refute the statement that 6 of Brady’s rings were insufficient because like Rodgers he did not come back from 28-3 deficits.

A poster said Rodgers was the greatest NFL QB ever.  Pointing out the obvious falsehood, Brady is mentioned.  It's really not a head scratcher  is it?

Let me ask you another question: after Luck retired, did your life become more easy or more difficult, as you went from 2 topics on which you post to only one?

first off, I never mentioned Denver.  You did.  I mentioned the AFC.  I have no clue how he would deal with shurmur and Elway.  I won’t pretend to.  I’ll leave that to you.  You’re the one that predicts the future at an astounding rate.

having Rodgers in the AFC wouldn’t be a good thing for the Bills unless his team eliminated the chiefs.  That was my point here.  It had absolutely nothing to do with whether or not Rodgers had a better chance to win a SB in Denver or GB.

The point your pretending to miss is why would Rodgers leave a team that has twice gone to the Conf Championship for a team that is far less likely to do so?  How would that make his less disgruntled/unhappy/very very sad?

By your definition Brady hasn’t really performed well enough in Super Bowls.  If Rodgers Super Bowl win was sub-par because he did not overcome a 3+ touchdown deficit, why are Brady’s 6 non-huge deficit comeback rings worth anything?  Have you perhaps created a poor definition of things in your effort to run down Rodgers?

I post about a lot of things.  I was proven right about Luck unless you think he lived up to his “greatest prospect in generations” reputation.  Do you?  FWIW I agree that Rodgers is a whiny baby a la Zach Ertz and beyond but wouldn’t need to compare him to any one player to make my point.  Brady is your favorite player and that is fine but dude he is not the center of the universe.

He’s made it clear that he wasn’t happy playing for the packers anymore.  Again....I won’t pretend to know how he’ll feel playing for a team that has a “lesser chance of playing in the conference championship”.  If you’re turning this discussion into what would make AR happier, I would suspect that he might be happier if his new team would communicate with him and ask him for his input on offseason changes and the draft.....but I have no clue in reality.  Now that we know that I have no clue, please tell us what the truth is behind his happiness.  Playing for the team that “had no chance to get back to the NFCCG and win 13 games” doesn’t seem like a place he’d be happy.

Rodgers SB win was not sub-par.  Scroll up and you will see I agreed that it was "a great performance".  As one should expect, it's difficult to compare the particulars of 7 SB wins to the characteristics of a single one.  The second sample is too small to make any meaningful conclusion.   Maybe it would be more fair to Rodgers to compare his SB success to, say, a Doug Williams--another single ring QB who dominated in the Championship game.

Yeah.  Denver is the most common place mentioned for Rodgers to end up.  No chance the Broncos win the AFC with Brady this year.

You state you have no clue as to what has made him unhappy, then you go on to describe exactly what has made him unhappy in GB.  In fact, there really isn't much mystery to it.  I'm turning this into "what would make AR happier"??  It's been a national discussion all week!

And the most amazing thing is, despite me saying they wouldn't make it back to the NFCC game....they did anyway!  How?? lol  They made it back, made him an MVP with "no weapons" at all!.

Go figure.

not sure what kind of draft capital it's gonna take to get rogers, but it would be a huge haul.

if rogers leaves, and the new picks power up GB to go get another chip, and that new qb looks good, that franchise really has to be considered the greatest/luckiest ever.

What do the Packers think of Love? Supposedly, they've received king's ransom type offers for Rodgers. Rodgers has publicly demanded a trade. If your QB is demanding a trade, and if you've been offered a king's ransom for him, and if you've promised him he'd be traded, and if you're confident the guy you've drafted is your next franchise QB, why not pull the trigger?

The obvious explanation is that the Packers are not confident Love will be their next franchise QB. If Rodgers gets traded away two things happen: 1) Love's true level of play gets revealed (bust?) and 2) the Packers no longer have arguably the greatest QB in NFL history to prop up their winning percentage. The combination of those two things could be disastrous for the careers of the Packers' GM and head coach. In an effort to avoid that disaster the Packers have evidently chosen not to trade him away, hoping that he won't follow through on his threat to hold out.

I was, but then you couldn't control yourself and jumped in.

Go figure.

Why quote “no weapons”.....that was never my argument....as I have to restate every time we have this useless back and forth.

If nothing being discussed was ever your argument then why you keep butting in, all the while pretending you don't know what the points of discussion (Denver??  Who said Denver??)in this year's Great Rodgers Drama are?
