Beast Posted March 11, 2021 Posted March 11, 2021 There really was no drop off when Brown was out, especially as the season went on. Cutting Brown, unfortunately, made perfect sense when it came to saving money. I liked the guy but I think I'd rather see money spent elsewhere. 3

I left a job 10 years ago because of our Regional Manager. I 100% knew his plan wasn't going to work and then I left. 3 years later, all offices in that division closed. I saw the writing on the wall. I'm in manufacturing right now and mills or plants that are run by bad GM/Ops Managers have high turnover because no one wants to work for them. Their bonuses are effected by the success of the plant. If the plant isn't successful, that's money out of your pocket. I don't think anyone should sacrifice their careers because they are reporting to bad management. 1

That’s unfair extra pressure on Josh with no upside, imho. At the end of the day no matter how good Josh is or gets to be, one has to only take a glance at Rodgers’ situation in GB to know that a FO gets to do what it wants when it wants as to the roster, franchise QB thoughts be durned. 1 3 1

Expand Hopefully! And good point. Brown was set to make, what, $9-10M this year? So how much of a pay cut is he really going to take? Is he willing to go down to $1M just to stay on this team? I'm sure he can get more than that somewhere else. It's what's best for both sides whether he realizes it right now or not. Good luck to him. 1

Expand I don't know, it could have been, "we would like you to take a pay cut," and that was all that was communicated, and the Agent/Brown are now claiming this was not a "heads up."

Cap issues all around. Perhaps some team throws stupid money at him, but he's taking somewhat of a risk here, IMO

Just saying it will still be more than what the Bills want to pay him when we need all the cap room we can get. I'd be interested in hearing the minimum he'd be willing to go down to in order to stay on the team. 1

Expand Instead of trying to throw shade on Josh, he should of been asking himself more about his effort after returning from injury. To me, it was piss poor. If he truly wanted to be a part of team maybe he could of taken a pay cut or reworked an incentive laden contract. Personally, I think this was bush league. 2

Expand that’s my take too. the reality is I think the FO didn’t feel he was reliable enough with all the injuries. They don’t have the luxury of paying him $5M per year, and having him Miss 8 games this year.
gobillsinytown Posted March 11, 2021 Posted March 11, 2021 I feel bad for him, but this is happening all over the league. A lot of guys are being let go who want to stay with their teams. But unfortunately this is the price tag for COVID this year. I don't remember anything about him refusing to take a pay cut, but I have a hard time believing that he and his agent didn't have at least some discussion with Beane about taking one to stay with the team.
