Defund the Police?

Recommended Posts

Welp, this story has something for everyone!

St. Louis mayor faces calls to resign after she was accused of doxxing the names and addresses of constituents who wrote letters calling for police defunding

● St. Louis Mayor Lyda Krewson on Friday was accused of doxxing her constituents during a live broadcast on Facebook when she shared the names and addresses of protestors who gave her letters calling for police reform.
● On the since-deleted broadcast, Krewson shared the name and addresses of at least 10 people who called on her to slash police funding amid ongoing protests over the death of George Floyd.

● Krewson, a Democrat who has previously said she was "listening" to protestors' concerns, apologized amid complaints that her Facebook broadcast put her citizens at risk and that she should resign from office.

● The video was up for about three hours on Facebook before it was deleted and Krewson posted an apology.

St. Louis, Missouri, Mayor Lyda Krewson on Friday apologized after she earlier in the day shared the names and addresses of her constituents who had hand-delivered her letters calling for police reformation during a protest outside the St. Louis City Hall.

Krewson then grabbed a stack of papers from her desk, began reading from the letters, and sharing the names and addresses of the individuals who had written them to her.

"Here's one that wants $50 million to go to Cure Violence, $75 million to go to affordable housing, $60 million to go to Health and Human Services and have zero go to the police," Krewson said, according to the report. "So that's [REDACTED] who lives on [REDACTED] wants no police — no money going to police."

</snip>

She later added: "I agree with all these things, by the way — except we're not going to take all the money from the police," Krewson added on the since-deleted broadcast. I think we need our police department."

</snip>

"She needs to resign immediately," one person wrote in a Tweet that received nearly 800 retweets and more than 2,200 likes. "At best, this is unforgivable intimidation against her own people. At worst, it's an incitement."

A petition that was started by local drag queen Maxi Glamour calling for her resignation has gained more than 16,000 signatures since it was started late Friday.

Yes!

Defund the police in the poorer areas.

Keep the police in the rich areas.

The game never changes.

What exactly is this justice they are looking for.  BLM is in dire need of a marketing department. Oh wait no.  That would likely be a terrible idea.

They spent it all on coming up with the name Black Lives Matter, which was frankly, brilliant. People are constantly conflating Black Lives Matter with black lives matter. Two totally different meanings. Try declaring Black Lives Matter a terrorist group (like Antifa) and see what happens.

Exactly. They use paradoxical word salads so that when you criticize their activities, they can claim that YOU don't think black lives matter. Antifa calling themselves anti-fascist is an oxymoron.

De Blasio plans to cut NYPD budget by $1 billion as NYC shootings spike

Mayor Bill de Blasio said Monday that he’s come up with a plan to cut or transfer $1 billion from the NYPD’s $6 billion budget and would not guarantee the department’s headcount won’t shrink — even as shootings surge across the city.

Well, I think we all know how that's going to work out.

This town of 170,000 replaced some cops with medics and mental health workers. It's worked for over 30 years

(CNN)Around 30 years ago, a town in Oregon retrofitted an old van, staffed it with young medics and mental health counselors and sent them out to respond to the kinds of 911 calls that wouldn't necessarily require police intervention.

In the town of 172,000, they were the first responders for mental health crises, homelessness, substance abuse, threats of suicide -- the problems for which there are no easy fixes. The problems that, in the hands of police, have often turned violent.

Today, the program, called CAHOOTS, has three vans, more than double the number of staffers and the attention of a country in crisis.
CAHOOTS is already doing what police reform advocates say is necessary to fundamentally change the US criminal justice system -- pass off some responsibilities to unarmed civilians.

....anybody know what planet this clown is from?...........

Chicago erupts in July 4 gunfire -- with girl, 7, and boy, 14, among those killed

"We are making progress ... but we have to do better," Mayor Lori Lightfoot says

By Brie Stimson | Fox News

A 7-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy were among those fatally shot Saturday night as Chicago erupted in gun violence on Independence Day.

The evening included two attacks that each had eight victims, the Chicago Tribune reported.

The girl, identified by her family as Natalie Wallace, was outside her grandmother’s home at a Fourth of July party in the city's Austin neighborhood around 7 p.m. when a vehicle pulled up and three men got out and started shooting indiscriminately, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

The girl was shot in her head and pronounced dead after she was rushed to a hospital, police said, according to Chicago's FOX 32.

A 32-year-old man shot during the same attack was in fair condition, FOX 32 reported.

“Tonight, a 7-year-old girl in Austin joined a list of teenagers and children whose hopes and dreams were ended by the barrel of a gun,” Mayor Lori Lightfoot wrote on Twitter. “We cannot grow numb to this. We are making progress in slowing shootings, but we have to do better, every single one of us.”

What they need are new ideas and strong leadership, a revolution in Chicago public policy.  They need to have liberal democrats run this to their plan for the entire country.

Wait, what?  Dems have been in charge for decades?  Now what?

Nah, man. They need to make Chicago a gun-free zone. Maybe even put up some signs.

Replaced SOME cops..............Not all cops.  Agreed that society is still somewhat primitive when it comes to issues of the mind but there will always be a need for law enforcement.  There will always be someone who wants to test the will of others and the code of society.  A jail cell should always be available for that person.

The last thing I want to see is less funding for police . More funding for mental health and social workers to  go to appropriate calls .

Would this include re-opening mental hospitals that were closed in the 60s through early 80s?

She's in way over her head.  Murders and shootings are up over last year and trending to total about 700 (murders) for 2020.  As a Dem she's basically powerless to do anything because more aggressive policing in the higher crime areas doesn't sell within the party.  In Chicago and in Illinois, it's absolutely party first.
