Thanks for the post.

I'll let the others throw poop in the sandbox!

I expect reasonable discussion.  I know these people and trust they will leave their politics at the door and engage civilly.

What do they define as an "assault style firearm" and do they have a listing of the ones they want to ban?

If they're talking about semi-automatic firearms, they'll need to ban most everything from revolvers, to shotguns, and long rifles.

I'm just waiting for the most up-to-date statistics on people killed in automobile accidents.

Early reports say slingshots, muskets and airsoft guns are still on the table.

It seems like a great place. I can't figure out why it's not bursting at the seams with people fleeing the US to move there.

I had an offer for internship in Canada when I was in college which could have led to post-college position and I regret not exploring it.

Canada other than some of the larger cities is a lot like WNY spread out and from my experience very friendly.

Good questions. I haven’t seen a printed press release yet, only video -which won’t transfer here. I’m sure we’ll soon find out.

Yeah, that is an excellent question.

The term "assault-style" has no legal definition in Canada. The Firearms Act also does not currently classify firearms as "military-style" — that term would have to be defined in the new regulations.

Generally speaking, an assault-style weapon is a semi-automatic firearm with an ammunition magazine, built to fire quickly. There is already a legal limit — five rounds — on the maximum size of a magazine.

Interesting contrast to the demonstrations at the Michigan state capitol yesterday.

People protesting a war were tear gassed and even shot and killed while doing nothing but shouting. Nowadays, we can march on the capitol with rifles equipped with high volume magazines and it’s just fine. The times we live in.

Three Percenters refer to the 3 percent of Americans who participated in the Revolutionary War.

The term has since been co-opted by some far right groups.  But go ahead with your misinterpretation

Yeah, that is an excellent question.

It's a question that illustrates how little people know about firearm terminology and technology, actually. A semi-automatic is a firearm that cycles the action via energy from spent cartridge to engage the next. Revolvers aren't semi automatics in that a single action operates by the trigger pull simply dropping the hammer, and a double action revolver also indexes the chamber.

So is a semi automatic weapon considered an assault weapon. I believe that was the crux of the question.

I was responding to whoever suggested banning semi automatics would result in revolvers being banned as well.

'Assault weapon' doesn't have any concrete definition. Semi-automatic and revolver however do.

So knowing what they represent, and who they are, now - what does it mean when someone posts their logo with no context?

Interpret it however you want.  Just don't claim that I don't understand the meaning when there is more than one

I never made that claim.  I'm sure you know the meanings.  I'm not exactly sure why you'd post the symbol of a group of such hateful, disgusting human beings.

You didn't make the claim, somebody else did

And it's not my problem that you misinterpreted my post, it's yours

You hid behind an emblem and provided no context.  I damn sure will interpret it how I want to.

That was me. Okay, a revolver can be a rapidly fired firearm. The article didn’t specify anything other than that and “assault style ‘weapons’”. A 9mm with a magazine is considered a semi-automatic, as are most pistols today. I just stretched the technical definition. Hey, I’m still fine with my .50 cal black powder rifle.

Clearly, he's never seen me shoot.
