Take Five and Living in the Past are an unusual 5/4
Pete
Etta James should be way higher. Janis too IMO. I didn’t see Buddy Guy, Son House, Shannon Hoon, Maynard James Keenan, Bradley Nowell..... And Bono is a piece of *****. He is as miscast in this list as Edge was in It Might Get Loud(Edge can’t hang with Jimmy Page and Jack White). Bono is one of many rock musicians who literally has amassed a fortune for his ability to sing, despite not being able to sing! I think they create these lists deliberately to outrage people so everyone talks about it and gives the publication some free promotion. Who really cares what "Rolling Stone" thinks about anything? The mainstream music media in America is hopelessly clueless anyway.

Meatloaf had a great voice and could actually sing, as compared to many on this list! There was a time around 1976 or 1977 I guess when he and his "Bat Out of Hell" album ruled the world! Mark80
Saw title and said to myself "if Aretha isn't #1 this list is complete BS." Went straight to #1 and there she was. Frank Sinatra (who also wasn't on this list for some reason) once said his favorite singer was George Jones. I get country music isn't a lot of people's thing, except the hip ones like Willie and Johnny Cash. But the natural talent George Jones had is easily top 15 if not top 10.
snafu
Daryl Hall can sing with the best of them -- but he's a pop star. Same with Paul Weller, but he's too obscure I suppose. Bryan Ferry was left out. Not including Meatloaf is stupid. If you're going to have Axl Rose, you might as well put David Lee Roth in there -- and you can substitute all kinds of artists for ones that were included (like Stevie Winwood instead of Steve Wonder). Oh -- and they included the Everly Brothers as one entry, and Art Garfunkel alone, but no Paul Simon? Edited October 23, 2019 by snafu
