When is the last time this man missed a game? He's a beast. One of the most durable players in the NFL. 3
PJBrown7
So where was he? Injured?
Rc2catch
He was out there, but with so many rotations and the emphasis on stopping the run it looked like Lawson took some of his snaps over on Hughes side today. I’d be interested in seeing the snap counts on the D line
Bangarang
Our DEs weren’t good today.
Ethan in Cleveland
DE's did not get much pressure but I also did not see them run many stunts. Seemed like it was a vanilla pass rush. I think they wanted to keep guys in their lanes to avoid getting gashed by the run. 9 2

They made a determined effort to stay in their lanes and not allow plays to get outside of them. Also, they stayed in their lanes so Barkley, the best back in the league, wouldn't have much space in the middle to gash through. With the exception of the first drive they didn't make the mistake of playing with reckless abandon and get caught out of positon but instead played responsibly and in control. Overall, our defensive line played cohesively and effectively. 8
KD in CA
They did a great job shutting down SB -- and by extension the Giants -- after the first quarter. 7

Southern Bills Fan
I’m not an expert but I think after that first drive our D line was told to stay in their run lanes.
Inigo Montoya
Just now, KD in CA said: They did a great job shutting down SB -- and by extension the Giants -- after the first quarter. Exactly! The key to beating the Giants today was containing Barkley. Frazier wasn’t worried about getting pressure, it was more about plugging running lanes and keeping edge containment. Eli wasn’t going to beat us.
Mark Vader
1 minute ago, KD in CA said: They did a great job shutting down SB -- and by extension the Giants -- after the first quarter. Exactly. Barkley had over 100 yards rushing, but 55 of those yards was on the first series of the game. The DE's may not have lit up the stat sheet with sacks, but they helped out. The Giants only got 14 points today. I'm satisfied with that.
Cripple Creek
Very quite day for Hughes and he didn't seem to be in the field as much as what we're used to. I'm very interested in what we see from him next week.

With a beast like Barkley to worry about, they gave up sacks for contain.
Over 29 years of fanhood
He was quiet today. Guessing he’s hurt or LT is very good.
DRA3196
our defense was content to let Eli have time in the pocket to throw the ball instead of attacking the pocket with a pass rush. That is why our pass rush looked so invisible and the defense did not blitz much today. It was by design to hold Barkley to minimal gains. If McDermott was going to let the defense get beat it was going to be by Manning, not Barkley, our pass rush is fine. Hughes is fine, Murphy is fine, Lawson is fine, Darryl Johnson is fine. (He got banged up but came back into the game). WOW!!!
SCBills
Could be two-fold: 1) Contain Barkley 2) Giants have a pretty good OL
Mojo44
It seems like for many posters here if Hughes doesn’t have a bunch of sacks in a game he had a bad game. Of course this is not true! Just a bit more complex than that

billieve420
Next years draft is deep at DE and WR. We can’t go wrong with either position.
