Sorry... Off Topic, won't reply anymore to side bar.  Sorry for rocking your world.  Will keep it tidy.

You're the one who is going on feelings:

"The exact number of DGUs is not precisely known. There are reasons to think the actual number may be higher or lower than the figures cited. For example, some respondents to surveys may consciously or unconsciously exaggerate the degree of peril they were in, which could lead to an overestimate of DGUs."

Didn’t read the full article I see

I did. Keep running on emotion:

"It’s relatively easy to measure the number of lives lost due to criminal gun violence. It’s harder to measure the number of lives saved by legal defensive gun use. Murders that didn’t happen don’t show up on crime statistics."

Keep pulling numbers out of your arse on murders/crimes that DID NOT happen and pretend it was the gun that helped.

Next up, you probably have:  "Death penalty deters crime."

Stop living off emotion.

Apparently research that was being used for that article was more a call for more research as the actual number of defensive uses is not certain. Also it doesn't really tackle the point as gun control is not no guns more hopefully the criminal won't also have a gun in that situation.

The solution to how to stop it, lies in why it happens. Something both liberals and conservatives are hypocritical about, depending on the subject matter. Illegal aliens, abortion, et al. I really am becoming too much of a misanthrope as I age, and for that at some point, is not my fault.

And the #s from accidental shootings, etc... Get lost in the confusion to, not properly reported.

Here is an interesting read on where mass shootings occur:

https://www.citylab.com/life/2018/03/where-do-mass-shootings-take-place/554555/

"Mass shootings happen less often in both very poor ($30,000 to $40,000) and very rich ($131,000 or more) communities—together, these income brackets account for just under 10 percent of mass shootings. The communities that have witnessed these tragedies are more or less on par with the national average for poverty, too. The poverty rate was 10 percent in the communities where mass shootings have occurred, compared to 11 percent for the nation as a whole."

So to avoid mass shootings I just need to be really rich or really poor....well I can definitely do one of those things.

There actually isn’t. The end game is total gun control. This is an actual conversation. How many school shooters used extended clips and bump stocks? How many school shootings would have been prevented by proposed gun legislation? And vice versa, how many lives have been saved by citizens using personal firearms?

Now that I think about it, that kid that shot up the school a couple months ago wasn’t disqualified to purchase a gun because Obama made a law that discouraged schools from reporting violent crimes because its racist. Good call.

I always thought that was a ridiculous assertion, but seeing how the left reacted to this shooting is starting to make me think maybe the 2nd amendment gun advocates on the right are correct to think that.

I disagree on your second point as the Promise program you're referring too did not involve any federal departments or agencies.

This is part of the problem. when the kids were required to wear clear backpacks at Parkland after the shooting they were all up in arms about how their privacy is being violated but you simply can't have it both ways

More freedom is better than less 100% of the time. Anyone who tells you otherwise is a Democrat.

It's really one player that is anchoring the team right now... And he's won the last two Cups.

Teams should have been allowed to offer up their scrubs.  Not good prospects.  Why give the better pieces to the expansion draft your competitor? Build from scratch. Like past expansions.[/]b

A large number of the players that Vegas selected were players that the dispatching teams were willing to let go. Prior to the draft teams were negotiating with Vegas over what player  they would offer if a particular exposed player was not selected. Vegas's GM did a masterful job of taking the right players with these side deals.

The goalie now anchoring Vegas was a player that the Penquins wanted to let go. He was a heavy cost player with an emerging young and cheaper goalie ready to take the reigns in Pittsburgh. The Penquins felt that Vegas was doing them a favor by taking him and opening up cap space and allowing their young goalie who they felt was ready to be their primary goalie.

Contrast how the GM for the Knights handled his job compared to how the former GM of the Sabres did his job. Murray made a lot of loud deals that didn't come close to meeting its expectation. In addition, he drained the farm and now our new GM is in the process of replenishing it again.

I don't understand why you would advocate for expansion teams to go through the multi-year struggles of being uncompetitive and unwatchable. That certainly doesn't serve building up the new market and it doesn't serve the opposing markets that have to be subjected to unentertaining garbage hockey. The Vegas model is a success. It should be copied when another expansion team is brought into the league.

Well, apparently reading is hard for me.

Also, as an aside, what percentage of children died by mass shootings nationwide? It’s statistically insignificant compared to the number of children killed in car wrecks or in abortion clinics.

But hey, if it bleeds it leads, am I right?

I don't care what statistics you want to roll out. Mass shootings are on the rise and we've got to figure out a way to stop that trend.

Mass shootings are in rise because these shooters want their day in spotlight and there are more and more spotlights on such things.

Best thing which could happen is one of these shooters are shot by multiple cops but shooter survives with severe damage becoming a paraplegic hooked up to machines for rest of shorten life.  Make sure this shooter's life are well known so the thought of become someone in such a state gives some of these shooters pause.  Maybe they will try to change life or just commit suicide quietly.

It becomes more obvious when you suddenly see how the political left never stops first to find out the details. They go straight to "ban the guns." Every time. Now throw in a big megaphone to scream this message like, oh, say, CNN, and, well...here we are.

Bump stocks illegal yet? That's where I go straight to. It's a compromised way to start. "Ban the bump stocks." Those in power said they would.

My wife saw her “genetic nutritionist” (whatever that is, but she’s helped my wife immensely!) last night and came home with some interesting thoughts. It started with the question of why autism rates are climbing so rapidly. The nutritionalist feels all the processed food, sodas, diet soda, fast food and all they other crap we eat, going back to the child’s time in the womb, plays a significant role. (I know, what do you expect a nutritionist to say?) Autism, ADHD and other  mental health issues just seem to get worse before our eyes. I don’t know the answer, but it’s something we really need to be putting more emphasis on. .

I think there is more truth to your wife's nutritionist than many people want to admit. I find it difficult to grasp that I can throw a rock in any direction and hit a person who has/had cancer, or knows someone right now who has cancer.  It seems simple to me that step one should be to clean your food intake.

Nothing processed. No more fast food, sodas, canned this or jarred that. Just clean food.

Anecdotal, I understand, but the results have been simply amazing through my lens, starting with my wife, who has all but eliminated migraines and back pain almost exclusively by changing her diet to healthy foods and removing gluten.

Plus, think about it; why would you NOT eat clean?

But, you know...guns.

This is why people are strarting to realize the plan is to take all guns.

Wacked out teenager shoots people with a shot gun. Solution: ban something that had nothing to do with the event and blame people who don't do as you say.

Oh, I don't know. School counselors DOING THEIR JOB and reporting kids at high risk for this kind of thing to the authorities who would then, if their families have legal weapons, be able to report that kind of information back to the school.

That'd be a step.

I'm sure the teachers unions won't support that, though. Too much like work.

And it would be deemed racist, bacause a disproportionate amount of young black students are involved in violent behavior in school...

banning guns/weapons is clearly not the answer. sorry to call those who do think that naive, but that is what you are. this is not a gun, bump stock, shotgun problem. this is a people problem. this is the example of poor parenting, social media, internet and the 24 hour news circus.  technology has warped the minds of many. it has been abused just as drugs and alcohol have. it starts in the home but the problem there is the home is not what it used to be. it is either single parents or both working who can not control the kids who come home and sit on their ass with a game pad in hand playing video games or with their nose in a device where they have total access to the internet and see and read everything, I mean everything.

it all starts at home.

this of course is just my opinion/observation,  but I see no end in sight and it's going to get a hell of a lot worse.  the days of leave it to beaver are far gone and don't be surprised in the near future (10-20 years or sooner) it will be a world like that of mad max.

Dogs trained to sniff out weapons at the door.

Not nearly as expensive as other alternatives, and very effective.

Not that hard to assign a dog or two per school and take care of it.

You got it wrong. It's not about socialism as it is a smart business model. It's about the exceptional execution of plan that was instituted by millionaire and billionaire owners whose sole ideology revolves around making more money.

While the NHLPA makes sure the players are rightly compensated through the CBA that includes a pension plan.
