I'm thinking he was happy for his coordinators. They'll have a chance at one more Super Bowl, because neither one of them will probably sniff it again w/ Lions or Colts.

Yea I think the emotion and hugging is because both coordinators are gone , nothing more, definitely got no indication or feeling this is his final year.

Here is my theory even though it is most likely extremely off base...

ESPN has yet to name Gruden's replacement because they have been tipped off that BB is done after this year, and would be interested in jumping to the booth to stay in football.

It would give ESPN more credibility and gives them a guy in the booth that would provide tremendous insight into the game.

No offense, but this seems like a horrible take.

If BB really wants to retire to enjoy a little bit of life outside of football, why would he do MNF games?  If he wants to stay connected to football, he'd stay where he is at NE.

Secondly, he would be a horrible color guy as he is the least charismatic person on the planet; not sure ESPN would even want that, despite the informed analysis he would obviously be capable of providing.

Just don't see that at all.

I'm not sure how him grunting and staying silent would translate to the MNF telecast

“Well, whatever I can do, you know,” Kraft said. “In life, you know, the hardest thing is to surround yourself with quality people, even in a marriage if it’s your partner, and then having continuity. Life is difficult, especially if you’re doing things at a high level. … There’s a lot of strong-minded people, but when you have something good going, everybody’s got to get their egos checked in and try to hold it together.”

to me, that indicates there is fire where all that smoke is.  who knows if they still keep it together or not... but i think that article was mostly (if not all) factual

You watch football all season but then don't watch the Championship game?

it would be nice if someone actually asked a sore loser if they were planning to watch the Super Bowl..... for once....

If them winning this SB means BB, TB, and the rest of the gang hanging it up or moving on then I am all for a Pats W. As much as I hate them this would be a fair trade off to me.

The short answer is no. This is what I've believed, because I thought he would leave and go to the Giants. With it now being reported they want to hire Shurmur...I don't know where he goes. Sit out a year maybe...doubt it. I'm starting to think he might be back.

the level of jubilation from belichick certainly exceeded any non superbowl win... and even those dont seem like as much.

not sure if its worth reading into.  he could have just been happy for his coordinators.

or he knows it was his last game in foxboro as the patriots' coach

When Charlie Weis and Romeo Crennel were about to go off to their next jobs, he celebrated the same way. Belichick-Crennel-Weis-850x478.jpg
