The death of the Buffalo Bills Message Board - how did it happen?

This place has always been better, way better than that garbage board.

There were mostly casual Bills fans on the BBMB and many of them are here now (you can figure out who they are with their thoughts on who good QBs are)but there are some very knowledgeable Bills fans who made the move here.

I shake my head to this date when I think about the asinine arguments of how Peyton Manning was over the hill before going to Denver. The second Manning, and the reasons why he isn’t very good anymore are just as foolish. He will take a mediocre team to the promised land if he’s allowed to leave NY.

People, mostly these so called Bills fan,who have no vested interest in our team, know absolutely nothing about what a good QB looks like.

In hindsight Scott you did the right thing by not building the wall. Some of these refugees have added to the board. Like anything, there was some dead weight but in general it has worked. There was a growth period but I think everyone is comfortable at this point. It’s kept the board really active.

The infusion of new blood has been a fresh of breath air.  Most of the refugees have integrated nicely and the ones that didn't provided welcome comedy relief in their brief stays here.  I can honestly say that I consider the BBMB boat people internet strangers that I can communicate with online in accordance with state and federal laws.

Disagree. A lot of good people have joined. A few others weren’t a god fit. No worries. ?

Since I have you here can I make a recommendation of numbering the posts so that one can go back to a particular response. Another issue I have is sometimes I'll get a notification of a response to a post and click on it. It doesn't always come up.

I want you to know I appreciate your efforts in allowing this sometimes ruffian community to intermingle.

Overall, the new posters are a positive addition and bring new energy to the old crowd.

The majority of NFL organizations no longer have fan forums on the team website. The Bills were one of the last teams to get with the times. That’s likely why it coincides with Boyko coming on board. Teams are pushing all fan interaction to social media. And every team has fan forums and blog sites separate from the team page anyway.

I believe Boyko had it shut down because of the negativity on the site. Of course that happens with nearly two decades of failure.

I don't get the hate for the mods over there tho, they had a thankless job and had to deal with people trying to push their buttons on a non stop basis.

There were a lot of good posters over there and a lot of them made the switch over here and there were a ton of good posters here already. There were also a lot of bad posters there and thankfully not all of them made it over here. Maybe some had already been banned here before infecting the BBMB.

I'm glad that this site is here though and thank those running it so us fans have a place to talk about our team.

It's been quite some time since the Buffalo Bills Message Board was shut down.  In fact, that's how I landed here.  My question is - how did it all go down.  From my understanding the moderators were all volunteers and the head moderator was named Z-man.    How they became moderators and who made them moderators?  I have no idea.  I believe that Chris Brown oversaw the BBMB at one time but had very limited involvement with it.

From what I can surmise, the board went down very shortly after Derek Boyko was hired.  So my guess is that he evaluated the website and decided the website had to go.  Clearly this was one area that Scott Berchtold must have not really paid much attention to.

All I know is that one day, I went to log in and then there was a message that it was gone.

Here are my questions:

- Who was from the Bills organization was responsible for the BBMB?

A guy named Gregg Pastore

- Who picked the moderators?

I think the other mods with Gregg's approval.

- Did anyone from the Bills even know or care that the BBMB existed?

They didn't care much. I think they considered it a nuisance.  It just caused problems.  Didn't earn any money.

- Who were the moderators exactly?

It varied overr time. Mods dropped out, became disinterested. I think once in a while Gregg wouldn't move a nod if he thought the mod wasn't doing a good job.

- How did the death of the BBMB occur and why was the decision made?

I think they just got tired of it and someone decided it was time. I don't think any event caused it.

Don't know who made the decision.  I was a mod and wasn't notified. There was usually a volunteer mad who was in touch with Gregg more than others and whoever that was may have gotten advance notice.  I don't know.

I think the lesson here is never trust a 3G Gregg.

Ahh the good old days of the bbmb. How I miss the glory days of the board crashing after breaking news or a big loss. Or members such as saviour Edwards who I'm pretty sure was trent Edwards himself or a very close relative/friend.

SaviorPeterman's photo uses the exact same format as that one, and he posts in a similar manner. I'm all but convinced it's the same guy.
